  1. Sorry, but it sounds to me like you might need to get over this yourself. I'm perfectly fine with all the monuments and sacred ground of our forefathers who gave their lives for their respective beliefs in what and where this country needed to go. I am against those who think so shortly that if they tear down the past, it will never be remembered again, also known as revisionist history. Have a happy 4th. And remember, the misuse of people of any race or denomination started in other places of the world first and was not an American idea from the get go as some people premise. Also for the record, there are still places on this planet where this misuse still continue, where is your wrath for those?
  2. Today, there is a threat from some loonies here in the states, who have the notion that destroying any history of the civil war period is the right thing to do, in a case of revenge, or victimization politics. News articles here are published noting that the park service and local and state police will be on high alert for threats of monument destruction as well as grave desecration. For those of you who can't be at Gettysburg the civil war trust is streaming live on facebook.
  3. I respectfully disagree. Just because Artillery can be, OR should be, dissolved by an attack of overwhelming force doesn't automatically discount its value in game. If "you" (plural not singular,) as a player continue to use invalid, or should I say outdated, techniques involving artillery then, yeah, maybe it becomes worthless to you. Granted smoothbore artillery could be put on the line with the infantry, but rifled artillery is always best used from a distance and out of range of immediate attack from infantry or cavalry. If you want to employ your artillery in a manner that is unsafe for it, then by all means you deserve to lose it, and rather quickly too. Unsafe in this case is using European Napoleonic style of advancing your guns in front of your infantry without proper support. In no instance should you ever advance your guns in front of your line Artillery will never be useless, it can and often does deal more damage than infantry fire alone, of course this goes without saying. Management of your artillery because of its fragility is key.
  4. In the real world, you can join associations like "The Civil War Trust." I'm a member!
  5. No time for sight seeing!
  6. Some of these battles come with the caveat that you must take the victory points and hold them for a period of time. Five minutes or something like that in real time, an hour in game time ... If perhaps you didn't seize the last V.P. and still had time on the clock it may not have been enough to count as a fully captured point.
  7. Sorry, but you're confused. I'm not arguing anything. Just stating historical fact.
  8. Sorry, I don't buy the Ironman artillery battery defense theory just because it's a game. Everyone here has made various arguments and points for historical accuracy regarding infantry, cavalry, and including artillery with regard to damage delt with various rounds, and yet you want to look the other way regarding accuracy when it comes to melee with an unsupported, unarmed artillery battery of 110 men against a 200 or more man units of armed and lethal enemy units? Yeah, I get it! NOT! Please insert another quarter and try again.
  9. Civil war batteries as a rule and by the nature of the "beast" ... unarmed gunners ... usually lost every melee fight they got into. It's tough going up against an armed enemy with rammer staffs, worm staffs, and handspikes. So yeah, I would expect them to pretty much vaporize or capitulate almost immediately. I've seen completely armed units go up against unarmed artillery who melees for the better part of 10 minutes real time and then watched as the attacking unit routed. Completely and totally unrealistically.
  10. Only on the Southern side. On the Union Side it was generally identified Corps/Division/Brigade/Regiment/Company or IX Corps 3rd Div 2nd Brigade 8th CT.
  11. I refuse to name brigades and divisions and corps. I don't want my armies thinking I like them to that degree.
  12. Actually you got your numbers wrong. it's version.  0.9x (4) And if you have your steam account settings correct, each time an update is released, your game will automatically update each time you start.
  13. Based on your screenshot, I'd have to say ... It doesn't appear that you messed up. Carry on.
  14. Dear Gawd. Don't you think that historical era has been done to death already?
  15. You may want to recant this statement. Starting when Grant took over overall command of the Army of the Potomac, during the overland campaign, he needed men in a hurry to fill his diminishing ranks. Grant realizing that Washington was going to be pretty much safe as he was drawing all Confederate Armies with him towards Richmond, and eventually Petersburg, realized that those heavy artillery units sitting in the D.C. fortifications were a gold mine waiting to be taken advantage of. Most all of them were immediately reapportioned, handed 1863 Springfields, a cartridge box, and a cap box and ordered out of their cushy jobs around D.C. and into the line with the Army of the Potomac around Richmond and Petersburg, and converted to infantry over night. Caveat - Not having played a successful union campaign, I cannot say how the game handles this. At what point, if the CSA is winning does the game mechanics break from the battle progression and takes the CSA and USA armies north to defend the capital?

  17. Leave my special Johnson out of this conversation.
  18. So much for navigation by the stars, eh? : D
  19. That said, I have only played Fredericksburg once, and as CSA. What I saw as federal AI was crazy. The actual attack on Mayers Heights was done in waves one division at a time while the balance of the Union forces sat out of range in the town. It would be nice to see that style of operation by the AI.
  20. Are you sure they actually teleported and didn't run around your flank in the fog of war unseen? Had to ask.
  21. Still missing some needed stuff even at this late date. Restarted my campaign again, due to the latest release. Just got done playing another version of 1st Manassas/1st Bull Run ... as CSA. We still need the organization selection buttons for the other commands. The only two organization buttons are my corps, and Jackson's. We're still missing Beauregard's Confederate Army of the Potomac, as well as Johnson's Confederate Army of the Shenandoah. Would be nice to see this taken care of.
  22. Maybe the game is still in early release and they don't have all the polished touches in place yet? Just sayin.
