  1. Good post. I am a trader and I avoid players like Lion, but I'm glad he is in game. His presence creates risk and makes the game more exciting. If I play correctly and intellegently we will never meet, and if we do I hope to flee and avoid capture/destruction
  2. This is a great opportunity to see if any of our historians can shed some light on fishing. When I fish from a powerboat, I use a slow speed. I had thought that it would be beneficial to sail at slow speed to increase yields. Can't find much info about historical fishing with sail. Can anyone provide some info?
  3. Would be great to have ships for improved fishing. I doubt the devs will add a ship for those of us that like fishing, but perhaps we can modify the fishing perk so that catch rate is increased at dead slow.
  4. Thanks for your encouragement. I've noticed lots of players in game that are relaxed, enjoy trading and offer support to me as a solo trader and to our clan (SCTC). The generous co-operative nature of most of the community is the best part of the game. But the majority of these guys tell me they spend very little time in the Forum. I hope that the Devs will always allow some gameplay for traders on the War server.
  5. I hope the Devs never change the game based on your suggestions. If I were forced to fight, instead of avoiding a fight, it would completely ruin the game for me. The only fun thing about the War Server is the risk of being attacked by a player, or group of players. I would use the Peace server if I wanted to avoid the risk of getting ganked. When I sail a Traders ship I find fighting boring, but the chance of being ganked creates risk and excitement. I like running away and if the option to flee is removed the game would be dull. Your opinions of the game would seem to force a style of play on me that would leave no enjoyment.
  6. Does anyone know if there is a better site to get answers about Naval Action? Perhaps a Reddit forum or such? Or perhaps there is a different section of these forums. Seems like so many questions go unanswered. Why all the secrecy?
  7. This is a fantastic idea. Wasn't this what was happening before? You could; 1) spend a bunch of money and just buy all the parts from various shops, 2) for less money you could buy the resources and craft the parts, or 3) for much less money you could collect resources and then craft the parts (but you had to first build mines, plantations and forests). This created niche businesses for some of us. I made barrels and had a profitable little operation. I knew a guy who made lots of money from producing another material. Seemed like wonderfully complex processes integrated into the game. But instead of players just enjoying the choices to spend more (and buy all the parts) or spend less (making their own parts) a bunch of them were confused and complained unceasingly that the game was bad, because it was too complicated, and they couldn't figure it out. I think players couldn't easily find the shops to buy the materials to build ships and they got frustrated. So the devs changed it. Simplified it. And there is less choice on how to build ships now. Then again ... perhaps I'm confused. But I miss my barrel business. I enjoyed making them for shipwrights.
  8. Good. Sounded like you might be asking for escorts to be able to teleport to a trader's location. I should learn to read. I really like the idea of syncronizing speed and heading in a group. Max speed based on the slowest ship. Regulated by the leader. I play solo and have found clans very helpful and friendly to me. They help me trade. You can trade or help a player and receive payment or reward from the player, or trade/help a clan and receive support from the whole clan. Player made content is great.
  9. Destraex So you are asking for a "teleport-to-a-trader" function? I like the idea of player warships escorting player traders, but you know that is happening already. The reward is paid to the warships by the clan, or the trader herself. Not sure if teleporting to another player would be helpful. Before the wipe? Is there another wipe coming? What's the point buying up anything before a wipe?
  10. Really good questions. Are there only a few ports (like Porto) where we can build an Academy Building and craft Extra Labor Contracts with Tools + Provisions + 500 labor hours?
  11. For me the best trade is selling/delivering stuff to/for players. Crafting items for shipwrights used to yield great business opportunities. Now crafting cannons or repairs are the only choices. Shop trades were always somewhat of a grind. But now buying and selling in shops is so simplified it is dull. Delivery Missions provide easy wealth but take no skill. they would be interesting if skill was required and there was some risk. Trading would be exciting and important if it formed more of the game's strategy and was a required element of national strength and prosperity.
  12. Yes. Yes. Yes. We should be able to chat with all players. It promotes international trade and co-operation. We could have a hail feature for other nations and if an enemy chooses to he could refuse a chat request. This way traders could attempt to bargain with a raider, before they are tagged. Or foreign traders could try to arrange mutually profitable deals. Those who hate chatting with enemy could refuse the hail. The ignore function should work in battles. Seeing toxic chat should be optional not mandatory.
  13. I would love to be able to name my ships. It would be handy to find a specific ship. Other players don't need to see my names, and I don't want to see the goofy names that some players will choose for their own vessels.
  14. Yeah, but we may be playing a finished game with the threat of future periodic wipes.
  15. I was misinformed. Or misunderstood. Thanks for the comment. I amended my post.
  16. As I said. I wasn't aware that the Devs had made promises. I didn't expect anything less than a full wipe. But there are some companies that can be relied on to fulfill their commitments.
  17. There is the forum and there is the game. The atmosphere in game is much different than the description of it in the forum. I talk to lots of players in game that refuse to read the forum. Others in game are not permitted to use the forum. Most of the gamersI never knew that the devs made promises. I know stopped playing NA years ago. I think they didn't enjoy the overall strategy, but some saw no point in building personal assets that they would lose in a wipe. A lot will try the game again at release. Don't care about XP wipe. Disappointed to lose knowledge. I never knew that the devs made promises. It's not okay to break your word, it shows the world that you lack integrity. People without integrity don't value it. If a game company lies it's not insurmountable, just an indication that there is no trusting them ... unless we are simple minded. It's still a good game. I never expected to keep anything after the wipe. Be wary, don't expect so much. I am prepared for more wipes after release. I'd be a little stupid not to.
  18. The point is - restrict the PvPrs to the Gulf and allow PvErs the vast majority of the map. If you want to force all of us into a single server, don't expect PvErs to accept the reduced version.
  19. I'm guessing that you are not a PvE'r. Its the PvPrs that are content to force PvErs onto a small area of the map.
  20. If you force PvP'rs onto a small portion of the Peace server the population will likely decrease.
  21. Nope, its not naive. "They should probably update the statement about pirate mechanics, and nations." My point was I don't expect most game advertisements to be accurate depictions of the product. Marketing presentations and video teasers only show snip-its of the best points.
  22. It would be reassuring to know that the release wipe is the final one.
  23. They should probably update the statement about pirate mechanics, and nation. But .... I think it might be a little naive to expect a Game company to present their product fully accurately. In the NA promo videos, there is no UI, no text over ports. All of the scenes are camera view and not what a player would see from the third person view above the little boats. There are no video segments of the open world sailboats, or trading, or port UI. Most up us know that a company will show the game highlights, and often the promotional; description, and videos, are misleading. NA self-promotes the game inaccurately as realistic. It doesn't really matter what the game showcases in their marketing, because each buyer can get a refund if they are dissatisfied. EDIT: I don't expect the hamburger that I see in an ad for fast food to look the same as the real thing in restaurant. If you want to receive a beautiful looking burger you need to go to a nice restaurant and the food costs more.
  24. I have no delusion that this idea will be considered. But it would be great. It's nice to have something to do while sailing. I'd add some constraints. A reading is only available when the sky is clear, with no clouds or fog. Day time readings are only at noon, or when there are some stars out. Night time readings are possible only when the stars are visible. Have a delay between pressing the 'keybinding' and receiving the co-ordinate reading, rather than receiving an instant position as soon as the key is pressed. Because OW world time is accelerated, the delay for a reading should be 20-30 seconds. 20 minutes of real time is about a day (23hrs) of game time. Doesn't take a day to calculate a position: A sextant would be useless if we can only see where we where 23 hours ago. Nice added feature = The skill of officers should be consistent. Some are good, others not so good. Bakster: 124, 577 Davies: 132, 565 Smith: 143, 560 It would be really interesting to have some sort of feature to model a sextant. It fits with the age of sail. There are ways to constrain it so that it defeats its use as a ganking tool. And if we allow everyone the GPS Icon Perk, no one will be forced to learn how to use a sextant feature to know their position. It could be a win win for everyone. Sure wouldn't hurt anyone. A sextant can make sailing more interesting. But there is no way it will ever be implemented. Development resources will be focused on other features.
