  1. "New progression system (including for crew)" This may mean that the way we rank up is changed. - A player's maximum crew size is limited depending on rank: the Devs may introduce new metrics to max crew size related to ranks. http://www.navalactionwiki.com/index.php?title=Player_Ranks I would love to have crew, and officers, that increased their skills, but I doubt the Devs will add this type of feature. I imagine that many players would consider it extreme and unnecessary.
  2. Not all family events are isolated to Christmas day and New Years day. There are happy festivities that people enjoy with their loved ones throughout the entire holiday week. Lots of players will find some time to have fun gaming during this week (without port battles,) and still socialize in real life. The key point is that if there are no port battles we have a choice. Still fun.
  3. This is ideal: it allows choice. There will be no port/clan losses to choose RL holiday activiities, and players with free time can still enjoy PvP.
  4. This is the only sensibile post in this thread.
  5. That's an idea for a workaround: the guy can pretend he is stating over. He will probably be forced to accept this option. (As he progresses he'll have to just remember the limits for each rank; when he crews a ship, or uses perks.) I don't see why he can't reset his XP. That's the whole point of the OP. The guy wants to start over. Why not let him? What would it hurt?
  6. Good question. I've never tried to start over, but everyone should be able to reset and start with zero XP. There should be someway to wipe XP without buying a new copy of the game. I imagine that the gifts for passing the final exam should be available only once to avoid abuse. Otherwise we could repeatedly reset and stockpile the rewards with an alt.
  7. I remember that there were a couple types of reinforcements. One was matched to the hunter: they were not even an inconvenience, and they were ineffective at protecting traders near capitals. The other type was super heavy and supported players who called for help, but hunters hated them. Seems like the Devs can't win. Traders complain if hunters are allowed to kill them in safe zones, and hunters complain if the entire map is not a killing zone. John Hood's expectation is reasonable. The NPC Guards near capitals should engage enemy, even if the threat is aft. But AI is peculiar and stupid. I suspect that Privateer Fleets will continue to make very silly mistakes.
  8. I don't understand br limits. Are the "BR Limit" rules posted somewhere? Were alternatives tested? Seems like there are lots of easy fixes to prevent abuse. (If we do not treat pirates like a nation.) Could Pirates be limited to joining pirate side only? (Pirates could still attack pirates inside the battle.) Could BR limits be removed from pirate battles? (They are pirates not a nation right?)
  9. The key issue is that they are incorrectly named. They are just another nation but their name is confusing. Pirates, ... players expect they will be different than any other nation. Real pirates could attack other pirates. Green on Green/ firendly fire is good for pirates. But in NA are exactly the same as a country. So easy fix. Change their name. Cakerats. ...Done. Fixed. No more expectations that they are in some way different. They certainly ain't pirates.
  10. I'm not much of a gamer. Never had any interest in most arcade popular titles (like COD, Warships, Pirates in the Sea Burning, etc) I've played some online PBEM combat and about 10 years of two other online multi-player games. The years zip past. After 5 years of Naval Action it's all I play now. It's relaxing after a day of work. The visuals are soothing and there are lots of mature chaps who are easy to talk to. I'd prefer a game with more content for sailing, weather, communication, and navigation, but it's a very good game. It rarely crashes and is easy to start and shut down. There are tons of things to do. For each situation that some players dislike there is a method to avoid the situation. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. All the best in 2020.
  11. Sail with a sextant and no warships, just 3 traders. You will be fine.
  12. Gotta agree. I've never been chased by Privateer fleets. Some of the lads like to form a group and hunt these fleets. If you don't want to deal with a Privateer fleet avoid places where they patrol. The Windward Channel has always been dangerous, now even more. But it is a good place to pick a fight with a Privateer Fleet, if you want it.
  13. There are no issues with Privateer fleets. Anyone who doesn't want their attention can just avoid Capitals. I've not been harassed by them at all, and am pleased to see them near my Capital.
  14. I have earned XP from sailing. It doesn't take very long to rank up. Just don't return to the departure port. Didn't complete the exam. Not enough patience. Enjoy the game. It's not a race. If you play often and fight alot you will be at the maximum rank quickly. Then you will be setting new goals. You can learn alot sailing smaller ships. Some players farm XP, after their friends help park offside a huge canoe ... but where's the fun. That's for players who are really bored with NA combat.
  15. An outside resource (NA maps) is used by most of us, frequently. Not sure about all games, but the others I've played (Elite Dangerous, ARMA) have a huge amount of outside resources that are also widely accepted and used. I've read about developers that are expecting, and encouraging, outside resources.
  16. Hard to say if it would be worth it for someone to create a Buy/Sell site, or a NA CraisList. I've no idea how so set it up or maintain it. I would contribute cash to start and maintain it if someone wants to try.
  17. Wraith, I'm not arguing. I suggested a buy sell site like Craigslist. The spreadsheet you posted is really cool ... but it is not like a Craigslist or a Buy/Sell site.
  18. This is a really cool thread. Reminds me of early days when players were contributing interesting ideas for game development. I know a bunch of us are waiting for salt to be added back into crafting. (extra points for integrating fishing into upgrade crafting) Hoping that this could be it.
  19. That link refers to a speadsheet. It's not a buy & sell site. I appreciate the effort that the creator put in, but the site was not very flexible or user friendly. Could be why no-one used it.
  20. Got a link? All I ever saw was a spreadsheet. Users need to be able to create their own posts.
  21. Perhaps someone will create a buy and sell site. NA Craigslist.
  22. Very good questions. It would create opportunity for blockades and naval warefare if NPCs and players transported the resources and local goods NEEDED in ports. It would provide an incentive to protect (and attack) NPC trade shipping. If an increase in delivery of local goods increased the amount of shop goods, that are produced in ports, players would be encouraged to protect the ships trading with ports. Not allowing contracts for shop goods will increase the number of ships sailing in OW. We are encouraged to sail from port to port looking for valuable shop goods at a good price. Having them available on a random unpredictable frequency encourages players to keep checking the ports = more sailing. The trading seems to have been improved greatly. I think this will result in an increase in prices for other stuff, resources, upgrades, books etc. It is helpful that the Econ Delivery missions were not removed. They provide a method for players with no Reals to get started in trading. Thanks for not acting on the rants to kill the Cargo and Passenger deliveries.
  23. Thanks for the reference. X4 Foundations looks like a nice game but it is single player and the ships are in space. I'm not sure trading single player would be as much fun as trading with players here in NA. Players are dynamic and unpredictable, infinitely more interesting than AI. LOL
  24. Thanks Wraith. I respect the Admin's right to his/her own opinion, but I do not agree with it. I prefer not to be associated with those statements.
