  1. 'Prince Frederick' The Prince Frederick was launched in 1714 as the 'Expedition'. The following year she was re-named in honor of King George I's eight-year-old grandson, Frederick. More facts. 'Expedition' was rebuilt as a 70-gun third rate in 1699 at Chatham Dockyard. She was rebuilt for a second time as a 70-gun third rate to the 1706 Establishment at Portsmouth Dockyard, and was relaunched on 16 August 1714. She was renamed HMS Prince Frederick in 1715. Her final rebuild was carried out at Deptford, where she was reconstructed as a 70-gun third rate to the 1733 proposals of the 1719 Establishment. The Prince Frederick was part of Vice-Admiral Edward Vernon's fleet and took part in the expedition to Cartagena de Indias during the War of Jenkin's Ear. Prince Frederick was sold out of the navy in 1784. Plans Sister ship 'Elizabeth' Model
  2. Not sure if it was already posted but here she is a gorgeous ship of the line https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Sovereign_of_the_Seas The link below has blue prints for other ships like the Revenge, Golden Hind, and HMS Leopard as well as the Mayflower https://fatboxsoftware.wordpress.com/2012/02/15/264/
  3. OK so I am going to attempt to start modeling this ship, I won't lie I don't know much about naval history or much about the ship itself, I have some HD plans and Ragnar hairy trousers to help me with his knowledge of ships of this time and will try my best to make a model to this games high standards. I was wondering if anyone had or knows of reference pictures of this ship, there is a model that has had loads of pictures uploaded to Google, but it seems to be the 1790 model and not the one I have plans for, again I am a naval history noob, if there is any websites that have pictures of loads of ships could you link them? Many thanks Harry Edit: I have just found the La Sirene in the List of ships presented so far thread, not that ship, this is a much smaller Frigate here are the Plans, the top is La Sirene, the bottom is the HMS Unicorn. The main reference pictures I have are these, http://www.modelships.de/La_Sirene/La_Sirene_eng.htm which are all nice, and it seems to be the same ship, however, the model only has 12 gun ports the plans I have for the La Sirene has 13 gun ports, it seems the model is missing the last gun on each row.
  4. The HMS Beagle was a Cherokee-Class 10-gun brig-sloop that served with the Royal Navy. The Beagle was later adapted as a survey barque and conducted three expeditions. Her second expedition made her one of the most famous ships in history as she carried a young Charles Darwin, who later penned the Origin of Species. I think she would make a great ship for use of explorers to survey coastlines, and send expeditions to unknown lands. Class and type: Cherokee class brig-sloop Tons burthen: 235 bm Length: 90.3 ft (27.5 m) Beam: 24.5 ft (7.5 m) Draught: 12.5 ft (3.8 m) Sail Plan: Brig (Barque from 1825) Complement: 120 as a ship-of-war, 65 plus 9 supernumeraries on second voyage Armament: 10 guns, reduced to 6 guns on first survey voyage, 7 guns on second survey voyage HMS Beagle 1:1 Replica hull
  5. A very interesting Vessel with an Unusual name. HMS Black Joke Class and type: Baltimore clipper Tons burthen: Approx. 260 ton (bm) Length: 90 ft 10 in (27.69 m)[1] Beam: 26 ft 7 in (8.10 m)[1] Sail plan: Brig Complement: 34 sailors & 5 marines Armament: One 18-pounder cannonpivot-mounted Vengador – 45 men and 8 guns (645 slaves freed) Carolina – 2 guns (420 slaves freed) Dos Amigos – 34 men, 1 gun (567 slaves freed) El Almirante – 80 men and 14 guns (466 slaves freed) HMS Black Joke chased the El Almirante for over 31 hours before capturing her. She was built in 1824 in Baltimore. She was armed with............................ONE 18 Pdr Long canon on a novel swivel mount. She captured more Slaves that the WHOLE of the anti Slaver Fleet did combined! She also took on the Pirate Vessel Presidente,Black Joke was massivley outgunned and after 2 hours of continuous action Presidente Struck her Colours. Her crew were conveyed to Great Britain to face Charges of "Piracy on the High Seas" By all accounts her Captain Lt William Turner(yes i know.......POTC!!) was something of a master Mariner and well up on his Combat Skills, She was eventually burnt as her timbers were now rotten and Their Lordships deemed that"She is not,In Our Opinion,a Vessel Calculated Fit for HM Service" The Surgeon aboard HMS Dryad commented that".....She has done more towards putting an end to the vile traffic of Slaves than all of the Ships of the Station combined"
  6. Probably the last of the "Traditional" 1st Raters .HMS St Vincent built at Plymouth Dockyard and launched 11th March 1815 as a first rate 120 gun ship of the line of the Nelson Class. She served as flagship at Portsmouth and served in 1840 in the Mediterranean and Channel. She was used as a training ship for 25 years until finally being sold in 1906. As part of the Royal Navy ship of the line the armament consisted of thirty-two 32 pdrs on the gundeck, thirty-four 24 pdrs on middle deck, thirty-four 18 pdrs on upper deck and on the quarter deck six twelve pdrs and ten 32 pdr carrs, and on the forecastle two 32 pdrs carrs.
  7. Brief History The Octavius was a British merchant vessel that was trading with China in the late 1700′s. According to the story of The Octavius, the ship arrived safely in China, but then the ship’s captain chose to gamble with fate: he decided to attempt a return to England using the Northwest Passage (through the Arctic), which had never been attempted before. Here’s where it gets interesting: the ship wasn't discovered until 13 years later off the coast of Greenland when a whaling ship spotted her. When the crew boarded the new-found ship, they discovered the bodies of all crew members frozen solid, and almost perfectly preserved. The captain of the Octavius was supposedly frozen stiff, still seated at his captain’s desk, and in the middle of writing a log entry that was dated November 11, 1762. After the encounter with the frozen bodies, the whaling crew refused to search the rest of the ship and promptly got the hell off of the Octavius. The ship had apparently found its way through the Northwest Passage over the past thirteen years by itself. The whaling crew departed, the Octavius drifted away and was never seen again. I was looking around for Merchant ships, as I am intrigued by the open world Merchant game play and came across this ship. I'm not sure if it''s the right ship for the game but I was surprised by the story off the ship itself. However doing some more research I discovered that this could be a fictional ship, I just wanted to hear other peoples takes on this ship. Apologies for the small sized photograph.
  8. It would be nice to see Capt James Vancouvers ship,HMS Discovery in the game. Discovery was launched in 1789 and purchased for the Navy in 1790.She was named after the previous Discovery(Capt J Cook). She was a 10 Gun Survey Vessel(later a Bomb Vessel,Bomb vessel: 1 x 13" mortar + 1 x 10" mortar + 8 x 24-pounder Carronades + 2 x 6-pounder guns) As a Survey Vessel she had 10 x 4-pounder guns (short)+ 10 x ½-pounder swivel guns. She had a Compliment of 100(including a "Widows Man" Length: 99 ft 2 in (30.23 m) (overall) 77 ft 8 in (23.67 m) (keel) Beam: 28 ft 3 1⁄4 in (8.617 m) Depth of hold: 12 ft 4 in (3.76 m) The Vessel in the background is HMS Chatham, she accompanied HMS Discovery on her Voyage of Discovery.
  9. The HMS Sovereign of the Seas was a 90-gun first-rate ship of the line that served in the Royal Navy. At launch she was fitted with 102 cannons on the insistence of the king. She was launched on the 13th of October, 1637 and served from 1638 to 1697 when she was lost due to fire. She served in many battles and as the flagship of General at Sea Robert Blake. The Dutch referred to her as 'The Golden Devil.' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Sovereign_of_the_Seas
  10. Replik der Endeavour, 1994 HMS Endeavour, also known as HM Bark Endeavour, was a British Royal Navy research vessel that Lieutenant James Cook commanded on his first voyage of discovery, to Australia and New Zealand, from 1769 to 1771. She was launched in 1764 as the collier Earl of Pembroke, and the Navy purchased her in 1768 for a scientific mission to the Pacific Ocean and to explore the seas for the surmised Terra Australis Incognita or "unknown southern land". The Navy renamed and commissioned her as His Majesty's Bark the Endeavour. She departed Plymouth in August 1768, rounded Cape Horn, and reached Tahiti in time to observe the 1769 transit of Venus across the Sun. She then set sail into the largely uncharted ocean to the south, stopping at the Pacific islands of Huahine, Borabora, and Raiatea to allow Cook to claim them for Great Britain. In September 1769, she anchored off New Zealand, the first European vessel to reach the islands since Abel Tasman's Heemskerck 127 years earlier. In April 1770, Endeavour became the first ship to reach the east coast of Australia, when Cook went ashore at what is now known as Botany Bay. Endeavour then sailed north along the Australian coast. She narrowly avoided disaster after running aground on the Great Barrier Reef, and Cook had to throw her guns overboard to lighten her. He then beached her on the mainland for seven weeks to permit rudimentary repairs to her hull. On 10 October 1770, she limped into port in Batavia (now named Jakarta) in the Dutch East Indies for more substantial repairs, her crew sworn to secrecy about the lands they had visited. She resumed her westward journey on 26 December, rounded the Cape of Good Hope on 13 March 1771, and reached the English port of Dover on 12 July, having been at sea for nearly three years. Largely forgotten after her epic voyage, Endeavour spent the next three years shipping Navy stores to the Falkland Islands. Renamed and sold into private hands in 1775, she briefly returned to naval service as a troop transport during the American War of Independence and was scuttled in a blockade of Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, in 1778. Her wreck has not been precisely located, but relics, including six of her cannon and an anchor, are displayed at maritime museums worldwide. A replica of Endeavour was launched in 1994 and is berthed alongside the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney Harbour. The space shuttle Endeavour is named for the original ship. Endeavour also features on the New Zealand 50-cent coin. Class and type: Bark Tons burthen: 368 71⁄94 (bm) Length: 106 ft (32 m) Beam: 29 ft 3 in (8.92 m) Sail plan: Full rigged ship 3,321 square yards (2,777 m2) of sail Speed: 7 to 8 knots (13 to 15 km/h) maximum Boats and landing craft carried: yawl, pinnace, longboat, two skiffs Complement: 94, comprising: 71 ship's company 12 marines 11 civilians Armament: 10 4-pdrs, 12 swivel guns Plans Endeavour (1768) Other Pictures sources: Royal Museum Greenwich http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Endeavour http://www.long-tom.de/endeavour/index.html https://jamescookship.wordpress.com/ http://modelshipworld.com/index.php/topic/6769-hmb-endeavour-1768-3d-model/ http://www.modelships.de/Endeavour_II/Endeavour_II_eng.htm
  11. Not sure if it has been suggested yet, however; my all time favorite ship due to it's incredible design, the HMS Prince. I would absolutely LOVE to see this ship in game in the near future if possible. I noticed it was not on the list for voting so consider this my active polling vote. I've attached some photo's to better show the design! Please let me know what you think. Bow: Aft: Design: Overall: EDIT- Wiki page as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Prince_%281670%29

  13. "While Wellesley was ordered as a Black Prince-class ship of the line, plans meant for her construction were lost in December 1812 when USS Constitution captured HMS Java. 14. One I would like to see: HMS Centurion (1732) 60 guns Anson's flagship during circumnavigation, and veteran of Cape Finisterre:
  15. HMS Ormonde HMS Ormonde was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built at Woolwich Dockyard to the 1706 Establishment of dimensions, and launched on 18 October 1711.[1] In September 1715, she was renamed Dragon. The next year, commanded by Streynsham Master, she was assigned to the Mediterranean Sea. In 1717, still under Master, she served with Admiral Byng's force in the Baltic Sea, capturing the Swedish Fildrim on 28 June. Between 1718 and 1725, now commanded by Thomas Scott, she served mainly off Newfoundland and in the Mediterranean. In 1726, Dragon was assigned to the West Indies station, where Scott would die 25 September, replaced by Perry Mayne. In June 1727, still on West Indies station, Mayne in turn was replaced by F. Hume. Ormonde (Dragon) finished her career in the West Indies, serving until 1733, when she was broken up. Plans: Oxford
  16. Could it be the HMS Brittania of 1682 ?
  17. 'Minorca' http://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=show_ship&id=5417 Plans:
  18. Launched in 1719 at Portmouth. In 1782 Royal William took part in the navy operations which led to Gibraltar’s liberation. Also in that same year, the ship was involved in the salvage attempt of Royal George, which overturned in Spithead causing the death of 900 persons. In the end it was assigned as anchor-watch at Portsmouth, until 1813 , then demolished. Its survival for almost a century compares strongly with the typical six-year life span of so many other ships. Armament : First battery: 34 guns of 32 inches Second battery: 28 guns of 24 inches Third battery: 18 guns of 8 inches GUNS 104
  19. 20. Im very intrested in those 74s and the reason is that they have so much more soul in my mind than the 1st rates and the Bellerophon is the finest British ship out there but i know the ship list is long but i have made a long list about to get more french or get the Téméraire-class ship of the line because she is the type of my favorite ship the Redoutable and the Bellerophon catches my eye just as the Redoutable does and if there is a ship that i think is as worthy as the Téméraire to come to the game it must be this i know there already is Bellona but this could be another British alternative when its later in the game and i could post some pictures of Bellerophon to get you all in love with the beauty. ;3 The thing i want to see is this or Téméraire so if somone has made somthing like this in those programs i would be happy to see one made. please..
