Exodus
The "bombs bursting in air" in our national anthem referring the mortars of HMS ships was a neat little factoid Edited September 8, 2017 by Exodus
Captain Lust
So now all we need is actual HE shells for the mortar brig. My mate would love that...

I'm not a native english speaker but i think it could mean both. it means that it is so amazing that it is almost not credible that it can be so amazing. ( i'm not native neither btw ). The same goes for several other european languages.

LeBoiteux
HMS Carcass (1759) She was a 8-gun British sloop-rigged bomb vessel, later refitted as a survey ship and used during an exploration of the Arctic Sea with HMS Horserace in 1773-1774. They reached the arctic archipelago named Svalbard before turning back because of the ice. Horatio Nelson served abroad her. http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/110116.html http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/85420.html Sources : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Carcass_(1759) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_and_American_voyages_of_scientific_exploration Edited September 9, 2017 by LeBoiteux
BungeeLemming
nice 2nd life use of these vessels. Beein build very sturdy and resiliant they were the perfect vessels to go through ice. At least the best they had at the time. Reading a lot of ketches I was very surprised to see corvet plans with bombards. (dutch ships). The reason for why they used ketchs is to reduce the risk of fire to the rig. The more I wonder how they shot with corvets or even brigs..

Landsman
@admin Any chance we can have the High-Explosive shells that are mentioned in the video for the mortar brig? Maybe only with the mortar officer perk? Keep the structure damage as it is if you think it shouldn't be higher but add more crew damage and higher chance for fire to make mortar brigs better and more interesting support ships? I really would love to see it and it would make the mortar officer perk and mortar brigs in general more interesting and worthwhile...
