We don't deserve a thing but I think it would be nice of the devs to let us keep our books atleast. Rank is no issue for me either. I have an issue with someone wiping my books because its a HUGE timesink and does nothing meaningful for the game overall.

Yeah, agreed. I will avoid any futher time or money investment until at least this promise is actually kept. I am fine with rank xp wipe. I am fine with craft xp wipe. I am fine with not getting anything other than a non exclusive DLC for my extensive testing. But the books that I worked for at least have to be saved in order for me to stay interested in the game. With more and more DLC ships and the massive learning curve in NA, the "this and that isn't fair to new players" argument is getting more and more of a joke anyways. So yeah, personally I feel like I very much deserve to keep my books and see no reason why they should be wiped.

Just a quick reminder that the "books are save" promise was made again in the very same thread that declared xp will be wiped after all. I think the devs did a great job with the game and there certainly is no age of sail game that can match it at this moment in time but I am not one of the suck it all up fanboys and breaking this promise too now would be nothing but insulting and disrespectful at this point.

people need to stop using the word "promise".  clearly there is a disconnect about that, and it's just sending people into a pointless tizzy

Not to mention that people should not take anything said by the admin that is a response to a comment. Only when the admin makes an original post should you make it some consideration. Not to mention we do not know how many use the Admin account from the team.

How does it matter whether or not the word "promise" was actually used? If you are a honourable man, your word is as good as a promise. More so if you are head of a company and make a statement on its official forum.

Are you saying we should consider the possibility of him lying whenever he responds to a comment? That doesn't seem right and very respectful to admin surely?

I doubt he is sharing his account. As we all know there are only a couple of guys working on NA to begin with and Ink has his own account aswell. Even if a co-worker would use the account, it is just as binding as he represents the company by using it.

Not lying but not set in stone as you would consider say one of the upcoming patch details.

Game has been worked on for over 3 years now and with each change it will effect into every remark they made. If we kept to the course we had 2-3 years ago this game would have been dead. Changes need to happen and it will effect every goal both new and previous.

Exactly. No turning back now. People can whine and complain like a spoil little brat on a long road trip but it wont change a thing. Time to finish this up and get a release. Personally, been liking all the changes. Just wish the individuals that are throwing a tantrum would leave and leave the people that are actually having fun to be.

There is a simple solution to this "quandary". Don't state something as fact, if you can not be certain you can / will make it so. Can you see how "x,y and z will not be wiped" is different from "x,y and z may not be wiped"? Maybe you are used to being lied to, I am not. If you say one thing to someone and actually do the opposite, it is de facto a lie. Whether it is intentional or not does not really matter, however I am giving the benefit of the doubt and assume it was not intentional with xp, even tho the xp wipe was announced really close to release but for the book wipe it would definitely be intentional. The white knights and fanboys can call it whatever they like.

So you're saying books won't be wiped? Because that is the last thing I read by admin on the matter. Turning back now would be wiping books regardless of stating otherwise previously, as done with xp.

Is this supposed to be some poorly executed ad hominem attempt towards me? If so, you might want to point out the part where I am "whining and throwing a tantrum" and how it is disrupting your fun on the forums(?).

I also liked most changes and sucked up the xp wipe without complaining, like the rest of the good guy fanboys. I have told admin how I appreciate him and his team for their excellent game before on multiple occasions. You may not believe it but I am one of the few users on this forum who is able to provide positive feedback aswell as negative. Pretty crazy, right? I am simply pointing out that, if books are wiped it will definitely not be a "mistake" as it may have been with xp.

I can see how anything that isn't some sycophant fanboy nodding and praising may be labeled "whining" on this forum. Just as easily I could call people asking for book wipe "whiners". The truth is, it is simply about two different opinions.

I to belive the books should be wiped , it will give vets a massively unfair advantage over new players , just my opinion but the devs are making a mistake not doing it imo, i have close to 1000 hours in Naval action on steam and i would not mind books being wiped at all because i belive in fair play.

let's be honest about it , the only players worried aboout keeping the books are the loud mouth look at me types that infest global.

Why do I have feeling that you dont even have the best books ? Ofc anyone without books would like them to be wiped :d

It is fairly obvious he doesn't have them. The vast majority of people asking for book wipe simply don't have the best. Can't lose what you don't have / didn't work for. The joke is on them fortunately, as if books were to be wiped they would have even lower chances of getting the better ones in a reasonable amount of time due to more competition in the market that would yet again need months to reach the level of saturation, where those asking for book wipe would have a good chance of getting the books.

Then we have a few people who have the books but so much time on their hands and nothing else to do with their lives, that they are willing to repeat the grind a second time and most likely mainly to have the advantage of getting the best books as one of the first again.

Think about it, now that most serious testers and loyal veterans have the best books the playing field is much more even and fair than it would be with a book wipe, once the hardcore grinders reach the best books again.

I love how people think at release there will be an influx of new players ... if your interested in the age of sail and want to play an mmo game you will have purchased this game already and either will be playing already or will have played and left ... there will be very few who are waiting for release before they buy

maybe there wil be some that have left that come back but i dont see them staying the reason for quitting in most cases havent changed .. ie getting ganked and the time sink required to play, starting from scratch is the biggest time sink of all

ps i hope im wrong

You have no data on that. Pure speculation.

I rather everything be wiped. Want everyone to start back at same starting line once again. But that is not up to me. Only thing I plan to do at release is write a positive yet honest review. Work towards reforming the clan. Do tutorials. Begin earning reals.

True statement

DLCs after release have potential to be rather game breaking with you think about it.  Hit the tutorials, grind for 15mins and you're in a pretty good ship and have years of experience.  Any new players will get slaughtered and either be forced to buy the DLCs or be at a severe disadvantage trying to figure out crafting and getting through the permit wall.  A new player who just shelled out 40 bucks shouldn't have to purchase DLC content just to be on the same footing 1 week after launch.

Noone is forcing them to buy DLC, you just dont want to start over.

Kinda why I thought that Devs could let us keep a couple of our ships through the wipe.  It can't really cause any harm and it would generate some good will with the vets.  No new player can compete with a vet under any circumstances.  Yes, they also have the option to do the Tutorial and gain the rewards (which includes a Herc at the moment).

Dumbest thing I ever heard, right herr
