More ranks for experienced players

Recommended Posts

After the promotion to Rearadmiral (as a British), the XP from battles are useless, they are only needed for the officer, if he is not at the highest rank already.

Therefore i'd like to propose to introduce further ranks. These ranks should be hard to reach.

For the British the ranks might be "Admiral of the blue", "Admiral of the red" and "Admiral of the white", while the XP needed for the first shall be 500.000 for the second 1.000.000 and for the last one 1.500.000.

Even if there won't be any extras connected with those ranks, there would still be some additional motivation to gain XP and the most active players would be rewarded.

I am sure, that for other nations similar ranks can be found, even for pirates.

Now let me hear your opinion....

We need something else than jut introducing new pointless ranks. Not that I disagree with the OP, that once you reach the highest rank, there's no incentive to do much in this game, besides PVP which always has been a gank fest, and never ending PB's - so nothing here to look for.

We need something else, something you as a player can get for doing special things, something which entirely is linked to your character in game, like medals for doing special things pvp 1vs.1, medals for participating in ganking, revenge fleets, patrolling, but also some special rewards for obtaining such things........a personnel winrate in PVP (only 1v1) It's the imagination which sets the limit. Basically statistics you as a player can see, improve, change - regardless of rank.

As of now, the game is getting boring, you reach highest rank, and same in crafting, then what? other than repeating the same actions over and over again, until you are fed up with the game...which is kinda sad, as the game has potentials for being a great game, but right now....it's a beautiful game only, not so much exiting as it should be.

yes, that's what is needed, additional ranks can be part of it, but some more motivation for high level player's is definitely needed.

For crafting i could imagine, that BPs do not drop by chance or from events, but certain tasks must be completed. Something like build 3 live oak frigates to get the belle poule BP. The higher the ship, the higher the difficulty.

I like medal idea, maybe you can get a paint job of your choice when you get one.

The idea is developing, please add your thoughts.

Maybe a couple ranks that, as the OP suggested are incredibly difficult to obtain, but once you obtain them it gives you a small perk, or medal? or bonus?

These ranks should be separate, for example, there are 5 ranks after the 10th rank. At a certain amount of XP gain you are given the option to choose ONE of these ranks. 1 or 2 of them could be crafter specific and the rest could be PvP or PvE specific. Once you have decided one the rank you could get special bonuses or a medal and use them to further enhance the play style you enjoy.

IF you want to switch ranks, you would first have to revoke the rank you have and redo the XP gain.

In a sense this would be your late-game ranks that would give XP a use after reaching the 10th rank. Maybe I'm stemming this idea from the perks you get from Officers and so it's possibly redundant?

To be honest, we can introduce more ranks and substantially increase the crew amount you get- it would simply allow high level players to sail round with beefier fleet ships if they desired, and I for one think it would be hella fun to be trotting around in an indiaman with say, two fully crewed bellonas as escorts.

Yes! more meaningful rank and position, and a limited number of top rank admiral for clans/ guilds to contest would generate an interesting politic within a nation.

I suggest keep the existing crew number and improve the rank system  :

As a late game rank, flag officer, an admiral can recruit player to serve under him, each admiral has resources allocated to him according to his rank, he can provide ship to his men (low level player) with his own money or his admiralty point, in-return, he get X% of price money, exp, admiralty point from his squadron member doing PVP or PVE, he can use it for rank advancement or buy a permit to build a 1st rate etc.., the admiral can also issues specific PVE and PVP mission to his squadron to generate unrest in a region he wants...etc. With such a huge responsibility, flag rank should be optional in the end game and required admiralty point (PVP point), money or exp to attain, casual player who wish to remain as a normal post captain can do so and his title will remain unchanged, unless he apply for promotion.

As a flag officer he can:

1) command of a squadron, (formed by real player or optional: NPC captain<this NPC is a character, he will go hunting automatically and level up, but no very effective, PS: I prefer real player only)

2) strategic game-play, ability to control NPC fleet?

3) Issues daily PVP, PVE mission to his squadron member and share X% of price money, exp, admiralty point in return. (similar to the new player crafted ship mechanic)

4) certain amount of free admiralty point to use (example: basic free ship to newbie serve under him)

5) provide ship to the squadron with his own money, (with better ship, chance of success increased = more shares of price money, exp)

6) buy permit to build a 1st rate (assuming 1st rate is even harder to obtain and required a lot of resources, this is where shared price money, exp mechanic will come in handy)

7) squadron based crew pool, PVE or casual player can train fresh crew, these experienced and better crew can transfer to the line-ship or frigate for PVP/ port battle, an effective squadron is a team effort!

8) offer services to the governor (to get a home-port or operational base) or join a clan, it is up to the admiral on how to run a squadron, a squadron could be clan based or open to everyone

9) optional: offline squadron mate as NPC escort? (limited by operational range)

10) optional: promote squadron member to post-captain, an admiral's recommendation (cost money and admiralty point) can reduced the requirement to obtain post-captain rank  (Being "made post" should be significant, as he can command a rated ship, people not in a squadron need more exp to reach post-captain)

11) advance to higher flag rank to increase squadron size (required extensive admiralty point, money, exp etc)

12) influence the appointment of national high ranking officer by vote or admiralty point/ membership in the admiralty board

This can add role playing element and naval practice in game, imagine the day you reached post-captain! ha!

Yes because in the good old days they always protected trade with a ratio of 1 ship to 2 ships of the line...

I am completely in support of AI fleets for protection, but theres a point at which it becomes unfair for attackers.

But on second thought, I think this would be perfectly fine if one had to pay for the use of ships in the fleet, like x amount of gold gold per x distance or something, but make using ships of the line so expensive that they would be impractical for trading UNLESS you had multiple trade ships in the fleet that are carrying more goods, enough to make the journey profitable

The question is how to reward high level player's. Just sailing around and fighting some ship (player or ai), is boring with the time. One possible reward are promotions, another might be medals or special ships.

So, how can we keep the fun for those who have reached everything possible?
