Fleets and did I pay for this game to fight AI ??

Recommended Posts

as a suggestion keep fleets for trading vessels only.  This compromise helps the economy and those players that are not of the warrior class.   Warships have to bring the real player kind of escorts.

:o ... why ?... that's...nothing... !

Being a sandbox nature, where the gameplay style is decided by the player, you can't simply make up a mechanic that alienates everything else on deteriment of one specific, in this case warships versus traders.

Remove fleets pronto.

>>As I said I play this game to fight other players not fight  a computer maneuvering an AI ship as directed from some small vessel.

Sure. I guess you have been "farming" AI missions over and over again....

no I have been playing this game for almost 8 months now and I am not anywhere near the top ranks for First Rates.  Most of my points come from long distance travel in trading and exploring.  I do get points from Port Battles and intercepts of enemy player ships.  I have also been involved early on in a clan that liked to do fleet missions but those are complete boredom but you do it for the group.

It is funny that you show yourself as a proponent of the game while you make your false accusations on a subject you have little or no knowledge.   If you enjoy grinding AI then they should just make this game a single player game for you alone.

There are ruled for the Warrior Class and there are Rules for the Trader Class already in the game.  A Warrior type cannot enter a port with a smuggler flag and expect to sail from it.  Yet, a trader class can.   <Next Question>

Its simple:

In the beginning we had AI ship fleets.

PPl soon build their personal fleets and had 5 santis and sailed a renommee on their own.

Tagging their prey - looking how the fleets worked the enemy over. These were the extreme.

Forum was full of tears and cry. "remove the bad fleets. Do it NAO"

-> so the fleets were removed. by player request.

Not too long and the playerbase cried "why u remove fleet? I was so happy with fleet! Give me back Fleet. NAO!"

So a long time of no fleet happened.

Steamreviews showed: ppl actually loved their fleets. More than those who hated them. Devs had long discussions and thoughts: "maybe we did wrong?"

And well. A few months later we have our shiny fleets back. With a few restictions so that we dont have 10 santis per player.

Guess what happened?

Yep: All of the community players like them. all? Noo.. A tiny little village, north of (ohwait, wrong story).

Lets begin anew: "All of the community players like them. all? Noo.. A tiny little part of the community doesnt like it and create ragethreads on the forum.

Here you go.

The story of the Naval Action Player-controllable Fleet evolution.

you could start from the top and read it anew. Its a neverending story :D

___

bevore you ask:

No. They wont go away. The overwhelmingly majority love their fleet.

And those who dont. Mainly sail without them.

Can anyone please clarify in which part of the world are fleets affecting PvP so drastically. As a British player fighting Spanish/French/Danish/Pirates i have never seen them arrive with these dreaded AI fleets everyone keeps crying about. Heck the only reasonable place to use them is when your sailing a slow ass trader like the Indiaman as an escort to help fend of a few rattles. So either the situation is drastically different somewhere in at the very south east part of the map or the Bermudas where everyone is suffering from these AI fleets conquering the world, or i would have to come to the conclusion that the majority of you are drama queens on the subject :)

Care to count how many trade raiders use LGVs on their own ?... ;)

At the very bottom of the issue fleets BR block tagging. It works like a invulnerability bubble and easy to get 5x difference.

Now if the fleet, at the very least, is not counted towards BR would be an improvement and responsability of the attack 1v3 would befall the trade raider.

I don't mind the fleets in PvP. The create variables and add a little chaos to the PvP. Now that said, it's a mixed bag. Some players know how to chose fleets ships and control them. Some don't. There is nothing wrong with tweaking the system a bit to make it better.

One thing that would make it better is if players could ONLY choose fleet ships that were equal or smaller in class than the flagship.

Example :

Two weeks ago I saw a trader Lynx with x2 Santisima escorts. Not very likely or effective.

This week I encountered an LGV with xConnie escorts. The captain crewed the Connies and only left 78 crew on the LGV. I sailed past the Connies before they loaded and graped/boarded the LGV to end the fight in minutes. The Connies just stop fighting at this point. He would have been more effective if he fully crewed the LGV and had x2 partial crew Bell Poules or even Niagaras for escort. That would have possibly run me off.

Picking the biggest ship you can for an escort and fully manning them is not effective. First, the AI doesn't sail well enough for that. It's easy to get them turned into the wind and they take forever to get out. The tend to run into team mates in close quarters. They are generally slower than players and just fall behind. They do gun well enough though and this is the key to their use. Choose them for gun potential. Essex is a very effective escort ship. Niagra as well. A rattle snake sounds good but they don't fire front guns often enough and only have x9 broadside guns. A snow is probably just as good.

Anyway, just some thoughts from someone who spends a lot of time dealing with player fleets.

Shit man Bach, don´t sell my secrets about AI fleets to the public.

Hethwill listen, this pirate´s got a "pair of pixelcoj'ones" not caring about AI fleet, but rather boarding a LGV + connies?

How many had cried about it instead of succeeding?

The question is, why restrictions?

The LYNX + 2 Santi is a troll or a villain.

Just showing off something he never boarded himself from another player...a shame no one toook his 2 Santis...

Why eliminate stupidity by "game design" rather than by learning?

BACH showed how to deal with it...

Can't tag a LGV + 2 connies due to BR. One has to bring a small cruiser squadron which adds to arms race and "gank" spirit...

It is limitative :) On one hand the fleets help the "single player" trader but on the other hand it limits the "single player" raider.

Positive side of things, yesterday bumped two traders being escorted by buddies. That's really nice to see and adds spirit to the Open World.

With "old pirates", I had got this VIC....in a hostile environment

no LynX / Vic - combo can survive....

Just take it this way, he is a loner and a newbie.

Otherwise he´d never take out a VIC for a Sunday walk....so ignore him.

With no AI, he´d just not be out in the sea....

Where did you pull that ASSumption from?

Yea, Right. Actually, discussing this point in detail is....

"I assume, that he assumes therefore I assume, if he..."

Actually, that´s the problem with AI fleets in general.

You all asumme..."if the AI were not there, I could...win this"
