Eliminate small ship griefing
Sang Noir replied to Malachy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Oh so true. That crushing feeling in a 6th rate and you have a large ship wiping all your men and cannons of your deck with one broadside. 🙂 -

Sure, I love history. Probably lots of us are here exactly because of it. But you could always make it more realistic and more historic which will only lead you to reenact history instead of playing a game with it's what-if premise. -

Sang Noir replied to Malachy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
No, it wasn't you, it was redi who has been sidelining this thread. It isn't really my intention to argue for griefing, but against any regulations that would separate the realm of the 7-6th from the 5th rates and up. Basically you're saying that your playtime is more worth than anybody's else and that gives me the itch. I have been ganked so often, especially as a newbie, still I don't raise a campaign against it or any of the ship types involved. -

The historicity discussion is such an awful dead-end: We are playing in a Carribean which is getting populated by Prussians, dominated by Swedes and Danes, sailed by US great lake ships and patrolled by Russian Mercuries. Obviously we have entered some sort of alternate universe of the Age Of Sail. And we entered a new sort of reality within the boundaries of Naval Action the game. It's a sandbox game and people are starting to figure out its possibilities. So what? -

Sounds valid to me and gives the defender a chance for being reinforced. Simple but effective mechanic. 👍🏽 -

Since Snows are officially the strongest ship in NA as of now, it would be a worthy price ... 😉😝 -

I am totally with you - if you make it the other way round as well. The BR of the attacking force shouldn't be more than 180% of the defender (or something around that). -

Says the guy who is one of the top contributors to this no-facts-no-logic-forum... Anyways, I propose a contest: anyone who could post a video of a Prince taking a 1st rate gets a price? I really want to see anyone pulling that off! 😀 -

While we're at it, let's remove ganking as well, please. Because I really don't know why I should waste MY precious gaming time with my Traders Brig being ganked by 5 P-Friggates. -
Poll on limited use of repairs in battles
Sang Noir replied to admin's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Limit it to 1 hull and 1 sails only. Consider having to spend hull repairs on leaks as well (may remain automated). Consider a philosophy that repairs are mainly for OW, not for instance. Maybe it promotes a playstyle in which long range cannon battles become more common again, opposed to the aggressive boarding. I also want to see a lot more sunken ships in PBs. -

Haha, now 6th rates are considered to be OP? Please don't be ridiculous. -

I disagree. It would be great if more people were to sail 6th (hell, even 7th). If all those Wasas and P-Frigates in OW start to complain, it only shows that people finally start figuring out how to use these smaller ships properly. That's a good thing! If at all, make 6th rates more worthwhile. The more variety in OW, the better.- 219 replies

In case this book has not already been included: The Elements and Practice of Rigging and Seamanship, David Steel, 1794 http://www.hnsa.org/resources/manuals-documents/age-of-sail/the-elements-and-practice-of-rigging-and-seamanship/ Right in our period, it includes a dictionary of naval terms as well as a documentation of fleet movement.

On Map Protractor.
Sang Noir replied to CaptVonGunn's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Most annoying for me is that you have to reset the protractor each time I enter and leave a port. -
Looks like portbattles are bad for business (in Sweden's case). Maybe it would make sense to add the number of port battles to the stats to see if there is any correlation (maybe there is a surge in income when losses will have to be replenished afterwards)?

I love those stats! I would prefer more raw economic numbers here and to save the politics for another thread. Politics tend to create emotional responses, give the drama some space. 😉

Yep, and since Sweden has those disciplined clans, they probably also have a high variation of roles, meaning lots of traders to follow-up the pvp'ers.

Fantastic stats! So interesting to see how the new system works out. It seems like Sweden has found the golden spot of cash flow while all the others look like they already overextended themselves. Various clans fare differently of course. Please keep it up!

Little things you'd like to see
Sang Noir replied to BrutishVulgarian's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I love that you brought back teleports. And they are unrestricted! Great step forward and so much fun to organize my own little privateer enterprise across the Caribbean now. Don't let it get bad mouthed, it's a great introduction for everybody and I am sure it will facilitate movement across the map. BUT. Just for formality's sake, why not re-name it to TRAVEL. Please. It would just look so much more nicer, it's not Star Trek we're playing after all. Just imagine a captain getting on the boat and let another one do the 'driving'. -

Fully rework PVP/redone PVE
Sang Noir replied to Harsh_Winter's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I think there's too much dependency on the human factor: others simply won't come and help you if you're seriously "outganked". Why lose my ship in a 10:1 battle. There should be a limit to BR pairings so mindless ganks are curbed. Make the BR a 100% of the defending force, so you could still have 2 Surprises versus one. But it wouldn't be 3 Surprises vs one. Add a waiting cue to each battle, so each side releases new ships into the battle when the BR calculations add up. -

Yeah well, those were just example numbers, I gave better numbers in my example if you would care to read through it and follow the mathematics.
