Enable Full Pay to Win
Sang Noir replied to Jean Ribault's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I don't quite agree. Why does it have to be such a radical proposition when a good mixture can be beneficial to a broader range of players? Since the release of the DLCs player numbers have finally been going up again. Not an enormous leap, admittedly, but the average number of people online on a Saturday night climbed from 400 - 500 to 500 - 600 again: https://steamcharts.com/app/311310 I can only surmise that a certain number of people welcome these DLCs. Before the DLCs the shallow water patrol zone around Shroud Cay was dominated mostly by clans in their Rattlesnake Heavy. For the average casual player this was a ship that was unpractical to muster because you need to craft it and have a port to stock it to replace losses, etc. Shop ships were not an option anymore because some clever businessmen made sure they went at unreasonable prices. If you were a casual you were left with nothing. Call it an intrusion of RVR into PVP patrol because if you are in a clan that does RVR you have the advantage of resources over a single player. The DLCs balanced that and pose a nice option for non-RVR players to participate in the PVP patrol. I can get my 10 PVP marks by using my two Hercules even if you just sail them into the zone to sink them, allowing me to buy larger ships if I wish so. I can sink those larger ships bought with my PVP marks in a non-shallow patrol zone, get more marks, etc. all without having to craft or amass resources. That makes more people participate in these events and therefore creates more PVP and pushes back the dominance of RVR clans in patrol zones. So far these DLCs have only created greater inclusion. That sounds like you just want to smash the entire game instead of working on how to balance it out. -
How to stern rake consistently?
Sang Noir replied to Sang Noir's question in Feature proposals and Gameplay Help Q&A
omg, 400 crew in rake? Ouch. ☠️ Liq, in your rakes you aim the cursor either perfectly at the level of the horizon (200 crew) or lower (400 crew). So it seems to be somewhere in between distance, timing and angle, whereas timing in the pass is important for the individual cannons to have the right angle. That makes sense. I always tried to aim slightly higher, I'll try that. I didn't know that. If my sailing crew is full I turn faster? -
How to stern rake consistently?
Sang Noir replied to Sang Noir's question in Feature proposals and Gameplay Help Q&A
Against a player. It seems like my hits vary a lot even though I have identical positions. Is there an optimal distance? Do I need to be higher or lower? In the tutorial it said not to angle too much so I try to keep it as flat as possible, is there a visual cue? Like aiming at the horizon or so? -
How to stern rake consistently?
Sang Noir posted a question in Feature proposals and Gameplay Help Q&A
When I stern rake sometimes I get really high numbers of crew and when I do the same I don't hit any crew at all. I have been playing around with distance (100m, 250m, locked) and finding a good angle. But it seems like I can't grape well consistently. What are the influencing factors on proper stern raking and how can I keep a consistent streak? -
Stop using mm/dd/yyyy

This thread is a reason to love this forum ... I am pretty sure that NA will succeed with this care for detail. 😂 -

No, not even that. S&B tries to look like the 1700s while NA is set around the 1800s. -

How do I set up an alt account?
Sang Noir replied to Sang Noir's question in Feature proposals and Gameplay Help Q&A
Thank you for the great guide. I read through it carefully. I also searched the forum on how the admins stand towards this issue, so I think I now have a clear idea on what to do and what not. Thanks again for taking the time and writing guides like this! That's A LOT of alts! 😲😂 Thank you for the vid! I noticed a change in culture about alts, about a year ago there were an open secret for the initiated but now everybody is admitting to owning one. Yea, I wonder of all the players online in peak times how many are really a single user. -
PVE: Do Away With Nations Entirely
Sang Noir replied to Fluffy Fishy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
What if instead of PVErs having access to all nations they would instead just have access to Free-towns and Free-For-All cities? Maybe that would also be an incentive for clans to make towns FFA as they'd attract rich PVE Traders? -

Thank you very much! I figured. The guide is pretty good and Sandboxie seems to be straight forward. Thanks again! -
How do I set up an alt account?
Sang Noir posted a question in Feature proposals and Gameplay Help Q&A
How do I set up an alt account and use both at the same time? Do I need a second computer? Can I have both versions of NA open with the same user account? What is the best way to go about? -
PVE: Do Away With Nations Entirely
Sang Noir replied to Fluffy Fishy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Those are interesting and valid suggestions. The PVE players would add to the trade on the PVP server. PVEer wouldn't need a capital with a safe-zone though, since they would be protected from attacks anyways, Free-towns could act as hub for neutrals. Only downside I see with this is alts being able to manipulate the economy and being used for reconnaissance. -

I was trying to abstain from that obvious reference. 😉

If you wouldn't do anything to win you're probably not a hardcore player at all. -
Add outposts to Admiralty Connection DLC
Sang Noir replied to Sang Noir's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Well, yes, that's an argument, I get that. If everybody has the advantage of more outposts (because everybody buys it) it would level the advantage anyways. Since we're already down the road to P2W now, there probably needs to be a broader discussion of how much P2W this game can stand. Because it would be stupid to do otherwise if you're a hardcore player and would want to win. That would actually be the most elegant solution. Advantages gained for everyone. -
Add outposts to Admiralty Connection DLC
Sang Noir replied to Sang Noir's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Thank you for the answer. I read the link you posted. It's a bit of an ill-logic to argue that buying the game a second time to get an alt is not p2w but adding 2-4 outposts to a DLC is. Seems more like maneuvering to keep the advantage of having an alt. Don't have time in my life for an alt and I would like the DLC to include maybe 2-3 outposts more. Aren't hardcore RVR gamers going to buy alts and DLCs and what-not in order to win anyways? So why not give the average invested player a little more incentive to stay invested? -
Add outposts to Admiralty Connection DLC
Sang Noir replied to Sang Noir's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
How do a couple of extra outposts make me win? -
Since the game is in Alpha I assumed the entire DLC was so too. The disclaimer is there so anyone that buys DLC for an Early Access game it should be clear (or maybe developers could make it more clear) that the DLCs are subject to testing as well.

Yep, same here. Almost on a daily basis. France. Paints would sell like fresh bread.
