Show current port map with ownership on Create Player Screen

Recommended Posts

@admin it would be helpful for new players to be able to see the map along with port ownership and starting ports PRIOR to them having to select a nation. It is not good for new player retention to have them be surprised after joining a nation. Thanks.

Why?

Because all normal nations has unconquerable ports. And the others described as hardcore nations for experienced players and it says that by default they start with no ports.

New players should not choose a nation depending on whom owns the most ports as your post proposes. Vast majority of them wont be able to participate, or at least be effective due to things such as lack of experience and crew for big ships  in RvR.

You think everyone is the same and they'll pick a nation with most ports instead of taking it into consideration to join the underdog, or the nation that is neither top not bottom. Also difficulty levels fall apart outside starting zones. You can't definitively say any nation is easier than another. ALSO labeling nations in such a way would actually lead to what you say, people picking what the developers call "easy mode nations" because a new player would be led to believe that is accurate when it's not.
An actual map of active territory is more accurate than going off difficulty levels which is just mere speculation and theory.

I'm well aware that there are descriptions of the nations available on player selection, but thanks for the screen shots. My post DID NOT propose that a player should choose a nation based on who owns the most ports.

My post proposes that it is counterproductive and bad for new player experience and retention to hide the true situation from them until after they have made their choice.

Some will choose what appears to be easiest (with the most ports). This game will probably not retain that type of player anyway. But why inadvertently mislead them into making a choice based on static written descriptions that may or may not be true when they are making the choice? If a player wants to play the easiest nation, let them. If they want to play the hardest nation, let them. But hiding the true situation so that their choice is based on false assumptions helps no one.
