  1. Also the technology can advance almost as fast as you can develop and they end up releasing a 'dated looking' game
  2. I'm more than a little worried about SC, I don't think I will invest. I think 70+ million dollars is more than enough to release a game, they are having a giraffe now.
  3. Yup happened to me yesterday, ¬/~ key clears the console again
  4. I'm afraid the I remain indefatigable... From another ridiculously talented model maker who is on here. Cheers, Alan
  5. I love HMS indefatigable but I wouldn't be disappointed if the Amsterdam made it. (we'll get the Indefatigable eventually...) For playtesting, in battle mode, do you really want the Amsterdam though...? Now must go and set up 100 google accounts and spam the heck out of the poll... (as if I care that much) Mods, do a check on IP addresses and if there are a lot of votes on a single IP address come down on them like a 68lb carronade! (although you could proxy them if you really cared that much)
  6. yep all us 47 year old kids ruining it for the mature gamer....
  7. Hi All, just pulling this over from the poll. Some more on HMS Indefatigable as I love this ship, not the best but a great story. It was my entry in Bismarck's Youtube competition where I'm humbled to say it got an honourable mention. The quiz result is here; And hopefully you can download the pdf from here; https://drive.google...iew?usp=sharing Cheers, Alan
  8. Hi All, Just pushing the case for HMS Indefatigable a little bit more as I love this ship, not the best but a great story. It was my entry in Bismarck's Youtube competition where I'm humbled to say it got an honourable mention. The quiz result is here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEdoGqMMH1I And hopefully you can download the pdf from here; https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_W0MvYYPD7uazF6c1dpU1Q1alU/view?usp=sharing Cheers, Alan
  9. Shift key activates the telescope for me. Cheers, Alan
  10. Make them set the fuse manually as well, they were marked to the nearest second IIRC. Also some chance of them not going off at all. I wouldn't be keen on it for all ships, just those that historically used is as a matter of course. There are other ordnance options missing too, double Ball with grape on top (when double ball just isn't enough...) bar shot, heavy grape.... I would keep fused rounds limited to mortars, nice differentiator, not sure there is enough historical widespread use as a precedent for anything else. again just my tuppence worth, Cheers, Alan
  11. No you're right, payal takes from your bank as a primary source then secondary to credit card IIRC. Cheers, Alan
  12. I would recommend reading the forums while waiting, lots of reading to be done on how to sail, how to shoot damage mechanics etc. Get's you up to speed a lot faster than learning on the job as it were. I did exactly that while waiting for the paypal issue to be sorted out. Cheers, Alan
  13. jeez oh, some meaty hardware here... Bog issue Dell XPS8500 Intel Core i7-3770 Processor (3.40GHz, 8MB) 16G (4x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Dual Channel 256GB SSD + 2TB SATA (7200 Rpm) 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7770 get about 40fps on high seems fine. Cheers, Alan
  14. I use the name I use for all my online gaming since ~03 or 04 I think... The Ecosse option is for uniqness. Chainsaw came from an RC car I used to run, had it painted on the side of it as it sounded like a chainsaw, needed something at short notice when registering for something wayback when and I've stuck with it ever since. Cheers, Alan
  15. Clarification is here http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/3021-you-can-now-purchase-naval-action-again/ Cheers, Alan
  16. I don't think it'd detract too much from the use of ranging shots and telescopes, not sure I would rely on audible queues alone, as mentioned above you need to use the telescope to watch the shot to see where it lands laterally you could also be miles short and would be wasting shots creeping it in where viewing through the telescope would show you as miles short and you required major adjustment FtF has another good point on why you would need to use the telescope as well, I'm sure the collision model could figure out who it 'thought' you were aiming for but it could be wrong. For a warning shot you should be firing in front of the ship, not short or over it. I'm not advocating getting rid of the telescope or not using ranging shots but adding the voices for colour and some audible confirmation. Cheers, Alan
  17. When firing ranging shots it would be good to have an audible "we're falling short" "we're long sir" or "we're on target, give them hell!" You would have people spotting shots for the gun crews and adding some crew voices with suitable voice actors would add some good colour and depth. Wont detract from actually watching the fall of shot to determine lateral spread but for ranging, it'd be useful. Apologies if this has come up before, Cheers, Alan
  18. Only one for me Artesania Latina Le Hussard. Was a long time ago when we had just had kids and weren't able to go out much, certainly filled in the time! Only got one shot loaded into photobucket will try and get a couple more..
  19. Thanks all! May well join up, I do find joining a 'clan' for online gaming to be a better experience. See you on the water, Alan
  20. Central Scotland, a carronade shot from the the old Carron Iron works (yep pretty close ) Cheers, Alan
  21. Hi All, Thought it would be polite to introduce myself. As my gran used to say, "good manners cost nothing!" Been a big fan of computer wargame simulations for my whole computing life, I remember playing Silent Service on the spetrum 48k what feels like 100 years ago! I was a big wargamer and played a lot of Napoleonic Naval board and miniature games and did the usual lots of reading of naval fiction, built a wooden shipmodel etc etc. I spotted Naval Action only very recently and had decided to purchase the pre-release after seeing a couple of the videos on youtube. It looked excellent, I had played Age of Sail II and Napoleon Total War but they never quite hit the mark. I checked out the website, saw the openworld plans and thought 40 bucks was pretty darn good investment and resolved to buy it the next day... Yep the day paypal shutdown their account! I've been out in the cold ever since, watching every one else play! I'm based in Central Scotland, just round the corner from the Carron Iron works where carronades were invented and made. My house was built in 1890 and used to be owned by them when they had become a 'homewares' company (it's in my deeds that I need to give them first refusal when I sell my house) One of the Carron works senior managers was allowed to buy the house cheaply and even my gate post was made by them! We even have carronades in our town centre, we're tripping over the darn things For a day job, I work for a large American software company and travel a fair bit to the US. Other hobbys include target archery, making fixed bladed knives, am a big canoeist and help admin a canoeing forum so kinda know how this stuff works. PS thanks to whoever on the mod team enabled my profile, I think I have two now but I'll get one deleted as soon as I figure out who is who! Looking forward to sailing with you all on line soon during the testing, I like the lower end british cutters, sloops and frigates but wont be adverse to cutting the line in HMS Victory either. Really stoked about the open world concept, can't even get my head round how that's going to play and I expect to be playing this game for years! Cheers, Alan
