  2. @Captiva There has been no charade regarding ALTs and what is allowed and what isn’t. EvE Online [EvE] it was part of the game (side note CCP just sold out to Pearl Abyss maker Black Desert). However, the hump with ALTs is having them interact with each other, that's the key always. That is simply not aloud on STEAM on the same computer so you need to Sandbox it. The ALTs value is this over everything else. Remember there is NO such thing as BAD ALT behavior. Its always BAD PC behavior using an ALT. Which is what you correctly state about multiple accounts. The problem is risk reward mechanic that encourages bad gameplay offering cheap rewards for low risk. If the mechanics work then there is no “BAD ALT” behavior. That’s easier said done! Norfolk

  4. “I always wonder how many of the folks that make suggestions ever actually played pirates or leaves there port once in a while. Most of us marking hard core sugggestion have played or currently playing pirates.” Sir Texas Sir My intention wasn’t to cause any offense here, and I’m sorry if it did. I thought @Capn Rocko OP was very good, with the opening word “Yearly” the key point. And then a couple of posts lower @admin blindsides the thread entirely with priorities... To Qualify... Now just to qualify my position I’ve not as many hours as most, and run GB only clan. However, I have pirate assets and used them in GLOBAL and the Caribbean, but more for specific situations than as an MPC. I’ve taken a five-month break, but restarting again more seriously this week. Reading the three pages all clear mechanics we’ve heard before and I agree with. Also, the older players much preferred the back in the day outlaw period. The feeling now no Nation differential and is attracting more new players and Care Bears or normal Nation type players, missing the whole point... It’s NOT a Sandbox, It’s a Lite Sandbox at best... I’ve written about this on many occasions wanting a more open or freedom in play. Removing more restrictions from game mechanics or NPCs brings it closer to a Sandbox. This I’ve wanted for years but understand the underlying nations if removed would destroy the game. http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/26648-idea-dynamic-npc-nation-overlays/ This is my solution, but the important part is reading @Wraith and my reply. This is probably a solution that’ll work for all. However, without the Panama Canal. The Pacific could have a LOW-SEC [EvE] play style without the need for nations and we form our own rules and alliances. The area is out of the protection of the law or outlaw. Populate with Neutral ports and hidden island and the island also. The ports would then use your build limiters, PB timers and such. Its hard to get to Kidd Island but once you know how then its easy right? Pacific LOW-SEC... This image I took today on STEAM it’s still accessible easy enough. The x,z is where the Panama Canal would enter the pacific. Look at the Central America image. The red boxes are islands but adding many more hidden would be a great idea. My Ship in the Pacific https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1512284995 This region you could make more an open Sandbox and it wouldn’t conflict code wise with the Caribbean due to how you access it. And returning is just as easy... I think an outlaw region may help not just the pirate issue but other nations that want to try a more open or hardcore junkie style of play... Norfolk
  5. First and foremost, the Pirates as a Nation Choice by New players is probably second only to the GB Nation. This then for any player retention means the Dev’s will not want to go back towards the Harder open style. This is just common sense, you get that right? Two Parts needed... Part 1 – NPC Pirate Republic overlay This is more or less the same as @Capn Rocko OP. Care Bear Jack Sparrows spawn out of Kidd Island as normal with some restrictions and the rest of the idea. Part 2 – BLACK Spice Outlaw This as a limiter you must be part of a Nation first for x amount of time or rank gain. It’s not for new players... This is the hardcore for senior players only. You can only build base ports in the Pacific. It takes time to get there I’ve done it and several other clan mates and players also. If you don’t know how to get there by now then don’t worry Jack in time you will... Have Neutral PORTs up and down the Pacific coast and hidden mid-pac islands with build limiters. Any PORTs taken there are completely LOW-SEC no b/tchin about night flips Jack either you hear me? You can do gank runs back into the Caribbean or dump on thy neighbor only God be your judge... I could bore you further, but won’t. You are all arguing over the wrong points. Pirate Nation will not change... ask yourself WHY? (read first line again) When you know this then you can tweak what you need... You’ll never solve the Pirate role problem because it got too broard and valuable a mandate. It needs a pussy and a Junkie mode you decided what you want to be... But both styles are welcome.... Norfolk nBlack
  6. @Sir Texas Sir you and @koltes will always be @Duncan McFail ALTs to me..... we want [BLACK] we want [BLACK] Norfolk nChance [ELITE]
  7. @Sir Lancelot Holland Thank you for the reply, is this your defensive idea below? I had issues with the defensive setup and although anchoring is not in the game I’d try to show it. I agree with your assignment totally though. My idea was both Van (Red) and Ctr (White) would slow up doubling into the French Van 1 then 2 ships. With Flag cleaning up. I’d expect the remaining Fr-Van squad to turn W with the wind. The Fr Rear 1 & 2 wouldn’t stay SE facing but also turn W attacking GB Red. The idea then for GB White to Rake into Fr-Van and split into Flag chasing the Fr Rear Balance. Hethwill REAR are Frigates and their targets are the Trade ships with not much support. The defensive proves a weak setup. For this one more the crossing the T with Hethwill following up raking as an idea? Norfolk
  8. Book: Fleet Tactics and Naval Operations 3rd Edition Capt. Wayne P. Hughes Jr., USN (Ret.) & RADM Robert Girrier USN (Ret.) It’s a Blue & Gold Book part of the US Naval Institute Professional Library https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1682473376/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 June’18 GBP50.00 is not cheap Qualify my view... I’m a Civilian and Armchair Admiral at best. Players like @Sir R. Calder of Southwick would give a better professional view. Summary This book covers Battle tactics at sea from the Age of Fighting Sail to the present day. The focus or emphasis is the trends that changed through history and constants that haven’t (6 cornerstones). Covers large scale and small battles also. Then goes onto Coalitions, damage rates, UAVs and cyber warfare. Then interactions of command and control with information technology. With theories on future developments... It is a very complex book indeed. However, unlike the Mahan Book uses older language the two authors here write cleanly and clear in method or concept. They expect you’ve read the previous chapter so moves at a good pace also. Explains clearly the fleet formations and how they came about in development. The flaws also like the British Admiralty leading up and including WWI. By them using or focus on the constants and trends of the day it somehow makes it easier to understand. This is my opinion and was read start to finish in order. Dropping into a chapter mid book I would think it wouldn’t deliver the results. The later stages are very interesting and Clausewitz On War reminders with the politics playing a heavy influence down the military line. I really enjoyed the read. Its expensive and probably not for all with only the early chapters covering the Age of Sail... Norfolk nChance [ELITE]
  9. I like the idea but think it would be difficult to implement. Worth a try to see if it works or shows up bugs... This I proposed a Blockade system Mar’17, read the 2nd one at the bottom of the post. It tried to bring more than just the belligerents into the fight from Gankers, traders and solo players as well. Also, ALT lock in as well... The Time build up is all part of the PORT BATTLE. http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/20214-the-port-battle-blockade-idea/ Norfolk

  14. Now now girls lets not start talking bolloxs. @Christendomis right, no one wants a fair fight in OW. Its why I think the w/e tournament won't work. NA-Legends has nothing to do with fcuk all. It failed because of the migration drift in models started just after launch. NA-L was an old issue to start and NA-OW was introducing Leeway. The models became pole apart...and could not be managed. NA-L wasn't supposed to take up man hours put it became a cluster fcuk sucking up resources. They stripped it back with the Battle Instances and that's that. He launched it too early that's all.... The DLC Super Ships needs a solution. It reminds me of the Connie skills tech tree they introduced. Fcuk, but they solved it after a time. They'll solve this also. The Modules, Skill Books and Perks are all part of the game and must stay. Stacking Buffs handled correctly or in a more realistic fashion will heighten the joy of these amazing models. Incorrectly done though, and the game is no better than a PotC also ran. Buffs in fleet make sense and did happen in real life. The Two Frigates hunting down a 74-gun French ship of the line inspired by Pellew the man... The man in charge effects how the rest of the fleet ships or men perform. Norfolk ordinarily would never have run on to that second Quarter Deck without His leaders daring actions or inspiration... Using well known ship Partnerships or Rivals to Nerfs or Buffs this gives depth without losing realism. Add the element of Hidden so research is needed and an added dimension opens up... Part 4 Summary This final part is just the Part1Old Admiral & the Sea chapter1 reference list. Doing the whole thing is mammoth in scale and I’ve bored you all enough. The short story I hope gave background and depth by using real world People and actions. Ideas like this can give backstory depth to campaign threads... http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/26648-idea-dynamic-npc-nation-overlays/ Just the opening words shows how much depth that can turn into different arcs. Although the battle of Tiburon is fiction Saturday 17th September 1808 was a nice place for a campaign thread and what unravels. It was Inspired actually by NA-OW forum thread... http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/26603-war-of-the-lovers-spain-vs-france/ If the story did its job the reader was left hopefully wanting more. He pretty much knows what happened to its protagonist but not much more. The battle a success what happened from there onward with Santo Domingo? Did our ALT SPY help with a French slave revolt? The battle if failed, what then with counter balances? Mechanics and Step instructions... The use of dispatches with Lat and Long coordinates tied to a time for another meeting. This a great test starter finding a spot in the middle of nowhere for all to meet. Smaller task and achievements could unlock more or less information. These leader steps in the campaign adding story as well not just a task to solve... Getting a French ALT into Tiburon to get intel. Might be a tad controversial, but Spies happened... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_John_Scott If successful more details open if not less etc. and so on. I Hope this might have given the Dev’s some thoughts for future RvR or other ideas to add to NA-OW for Campaigns and such. Finally, Below is the reference list. 17. Idea: (Pt3/4) Fleet Commanders Companion [FCC] Short Version at the bottom... @admin Try acid instead of wine here, Summary To create an out of game persistent linked reference manual for the Captain in NA-OW. The closest reference would be a Jane’s Fighting Ships for the age of sail. That can be pulled up in-Game... https://www.scribd.com/doc/84063027/Jane-s-Fighting-Ships-1938 This is not to give secrets away but is a general knowledge database with real History included leading to possible Easter egg buffs. Background http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/26423-idea-norfolk-compares-apples-to-oranges-to-avoid-a-lemon/ This the [FCC] is different and would work along side my Out-of-Game Player Character history persistent link mentioned in Apples and Oranges. This basically replaces the current Wiki but also adds History. Quick Example Norfolk nNimtz in his flag Victory starts reading up on the USS Constitution. This our basic weak statistic page. On this page I’d like ship build list and more handling details as well. Scrap the history section completely. What role dose she play in the game? http://www.navalactionwiki.com/index.php?title=Constitution Along side this page is another... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Constitution You’ll go through and read its history, why and how she was built. The actions she took part in. This is all great but probably most would say how’s that going to improve my game? And the younger gamer couldn’t give a fcuk… Another section will list Campaigns, Battles, wars etc. Go back and read under Wars to the “First Barbary War...” Also, Quasi-War with the French https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quasi-War https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Barbary_War Just general reading shows She didn’t do much in both. However, Norfolk nNamitz just surfing the different ships and their History realized another ship served alongside the Connie... Easter Eggs... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Essex_(1799) The Essex served in both wars. I suggest when both ships are sailed together they get a [Barbary War] Buff or it opens a 2x ship campaign for the two ships that lead to special Bling. ITS HIDDEN THOUGH AND NEEDS DISCOVERY The L’Ocean and the 3rd Rate storyline... In the Old Admiral & the Sea chapter V, Norfolk nNimitz looking through the [FCC] about the L’Ocean notices the 74-Temeraire class (NA-OW 3rd Rate). They work together in a defensive role better. They could when placed in the same FRENCH only fleets offer an extra defensive buff? http://www.navalactionwiki.com/index.php?title=3rd_Rate Adding extra external value... You might not like the Easter Egg style, but it could drive deeper research into the game as a whole. This out of game content could drive small groups to use the other types and styles of ships more and together. The Barbary Quest is fighting AI pirates the Victory and Aggy another role... Maybe one campaign is solely Nation linked like L’O and 3rd Rate France, Victory and Aggy GB, Connie and Essex, US. While smaller ships are totally open. Could involve PvP and not just RvR tasks... The [FCC] Builds out... It wants to offer tactics and other parts to the world. http://www.gwpda.org/naval/s0100000.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_of_battle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glorious_First_of_June https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Napoleonic_Wars So [FCC] builds into something like this... http://www.hnsa.org/resources/manuals-documents/age-of-sail/textbook-of-seamanship/ http://www.hnsa.org/resources/manuals-documents/age-of-sail/the-elements-and-practice-of-rigging-and-seamanship/ Summary This is the third part of my Old Admiral & the Sea idea of [FACS] and [FCC]. The idea with [FCC] is to help the beginner but also immerse him into the world dynamically. This also appealing to the older player as well. Finding a couple of ship links in [FCC] that helps [FACS] that gives a history lesson. This you can see builds into this also... http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/26648-idea-dynamic-npc-nation-overlays/ The fourth and final part of the idea will post later in a day or so... Thank you for taking the time to read my scribbles. If you think its rubbish please let me know, or can do better likewise Norfolk nChance [ELITE] The Short Version Fleet Commanders Companion [FCC] is a dynamic persistent link out of Game reference library. Not focused on the Player Character, but on the different aspects of Naval Action Open World. This database is not to reveal all NA-OW secrets but to give a good reference knowledge to start with. Easter Eggs, encourage the PC to delve deeper into naval warfare and its rich history forming better player retentions...
  18. @admin I’d like to see it tested. Would like dynamic storm damage included. Otherwise it’s just eye candy Issue I see is the wave impacts of smaller niche ships like Mortar Brig already mentioned. World of Warships [WoWs] do something of a count down to a storm brewing till it actually hits. This could used for prone storm areas Norfolk
  19. Idea: (Pt2/4) Norfolk nNimitz and the [FACS] Skill Book https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSy9D3He6q0 Short Version at the bottom... @admin A Bottle of red needed sorry, Quick Summary A Skill Book once activated allows for the better control of Squadrons and the fleet under your command. It needs time with XP to breach the three stages. The advantages of the Skill Book are it Buffs all ships under the command of the Squadron or in fact the entire Fleet. Using something like the Fleet, Wing Commander function from [EvE]. A Re-think first towards Mod... http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/25015-a-different-look-at-upgrading-and-stacking-ones-ship/ this is an idea I wrote in Feb’18. Without re-writing it basically, it puts ship mods and stacking in an order of importance. This then suffers from a stacking multiplier. Please have a quick read of it and the EvE Online [EvE] weaker model. Also, my reply to suggestions. This basic idea would be the foundation start. Fleet Groupings and limiter introduction... Currently same nations can group into different sizes and Battle Ratings. This limited to the 25-ship ceiling of the Port Battle. The first limiter I wish to introduce is any player can only control a Squadron of 7 ships and himself a total of 8 ships. With the Purchase from the Admiralty shop the [FACS] skill book can be activated. This will lead to the ability to control 3x Squadrons plus your own ship 25x ships. And other benefits with XP... A Fleet Example to Use... Three Star Fleet Admiral [FA-3*] Norfolk nNimitz [25x Ships] Van-Squadron [Van-2*] Admin [8x Ships] Centre-Squadron [CTR-1*] Ink [8x Ships] Rear-Squadron [REAR-0*] Hethwill [8x Ships] The Skill Book has three completable stages. Just purchasing and activation gives the PC a Fleet Admiral 0* (star) status. This allows him to control 8 ships in a fleet. His in-BATTLE Chat channel allows for communication with the rest of his fleet just like now. After each battle he’ll be awarded FA XP points win or lose. If he attacked they’ll go to the attack score if defense likewise... FA-0*: Controls a total of 8x ships. BASIC FA XP attack 000/000 defense Target 300/300 FA-1*: Controls a total of 8x ships. BASIC FA XP either attack or defense is at 301. Each of the 8x ship will receive bonus buffs in the skill completed. 301/000 would mean each ship gets attacking buffs. In defense No buffs. FA-2*: Controls 2x Squadrons a total of 17x ships. BASIC FA XP is at 301/301 completed. Target 601/601. Separately can talk to each Squad leader giving instructions and to all the fleet. He gives bonus buffs down to all ships. If defending defense buffs if attacking attack buffs. Also limited map drawing pass along at Battle instances to the 2 other Sqd Leaders. Breaching either 601 targets will allow an increase in the buff delivered. FA-3*: The Three Star Fleet Admiral, FA XP BASIC 601/601. Target 999/999. Separately can talk to each of the 3 Sqd Leaders. Bonus buffs to all ships attack or defense depending. 3x More that at 1 star and 2x as much as 2-star admiral. More map features pre-battle start. Target points that show up in BATTLE for each different Squad. In our above example the Van-Squadron would receive 2* buffs plus additional 3* buffs. While the Rear-Squadron would only receive 3* Buffs and nothing else. An In-Game Example... I’ve stated above this is a smaller basic idea taken from EvE Online [EvE]. Watch this short video to get the general idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZE_RbRtwz4 This is the [EvE] Uniwiki written explanation also. https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Fleet_Command_Guide In Summary... This idea seems heavy or complex. However, the communications systems are simple to add including the map graphics that lock at battle start. The base line stacking mods allows for growth but not super ships. The buffs and incentives become better the more players work together. The Skill Book is easy to get but not easy to be beneficial. You need to work for it. The idea in the Old Admiral story was to show the different levels of experience in the Admirals and how it would relate on the battlefield. Let me know what you think as always, Part3 in a couple of days Norfolk nChance [ELITE] Short Version The Fleet Admiral Command Skill book [FACS] that stages and takes time to learn. With this skill the Fleet Admiral [FA] can control 3 Squadrons of 8 ships each. The [FA] when completing the Skill Book levels will buff all ships under his command. With both an Attack/Defense feature. This skill together with the skill mod changes proposed a more realistic way to mod stacking and integration of ships working together as a whole.
  20. @admin This POST is Part 1 of 4 posts. Parts 2 & 3 to follow in a few days are the two ideas [FACS] & [FCC] which are independent from each other. They can actually work together providing a rare synergy when 1 + 1 = 3. Both topics can get deep with many tangent routes leading into back and forth of endless micro arguments. This then losing the readers attention on the synergy exploit. The concept of using a short story to explain with a roleplay example how this might work. This Part1 is that explanation of the two ideas. Out of Game context to drive in-game content would be the one above all else key to NA-OWs explosion in growth. The [FCC] would be part of this concept. The [FACS] idea is new type of Skill Book aimed more at Senior players, but also how the mods systems can work in a much more realistic and rounded way. The Pt4 idea is this short story chapter reference list. Then @admin can visually see how deep the plot gets in just this small scribble. This in turn could be used to give inspiration for templated story arc ideas. It proves there is enough wealth of content to build [FCC] into a great product. Helping with overall player retention. Or it’s just a nice little piece of fiction. All set within Naval Action [PvP Caribbean] to be enjoyed with a glass of French red. Following an ordinary man who’s had an extraordinary career over a couple days in the Caribbean. Tell me if you think its rubbish, or if you can do better likewise... Good Luck, and fair Seas my Captains, Great Britain Admiral of the Fleet Sir Peter Parker, 1st Baronet Fleet Admiral Norfolk nNimitz or Fleet as a more popular nickname he’s known by, returned the dispatch letter to his satchel. Poured himself another large glass of French red, feeling for his Hunter-Case Silver Pocket watch lodged in his waist coat. It’s started early this time, the first minor handshakes and tremors of anxiety, pre-battle proving that the old man is not dead yet. He closed the Silver lid, now 1.15am darkening his mood as the minutes rolled by... where the hell is he? The heavy monsoon downpour could be heard outside rattling at the windows in pitch darkness on a moonless night. He wasn’t accustomed to the cramped cabin either, fidgeting and mumbling to himself... You’re an old dog Fleet, you’re getting slow and fat... praying he turns up and doesn’t let you down. Fear never griped you before battle this much... he’ll be here by God or be damned Why do I place so much faith in just one Captain...? It’s because he irritates and yet drives men the same way as that dear friend did... yelling at you running across the Quarter Deck of the San Nicholas and then onward.... “move your ass Norfolk! How did we live through and survive that day... Ha ha ha? My old friend has been dead now almost three years... I never believed him to be immortal, not just Legend either... My earlier inspection of the Rear Squadron and its mortar brigs, fast frigates and lead ship HMS Indefatigable impressed no end. After some old salt swallowed the anchor giving the new Rear Admiral Hethwill his promotion. The hard work and his dedication to the group shows. He normally runs a smaller division of five mixed frigates called The Western Frigate Squadron [WFS]. The [WFS] orders are to patrol and support. The role runs not only in the Caribbean, but also the mid-Atlantic due to their speed. Giving direct support to the Glorious First of June hero Fleet Admiral Richard Howe, 1st Earl Howe [Atlantic Fleet]. Howe gave the [WFS] their nickname “Wolf-Pack” and it stuck ever since after they spotted a French 74-Gun Droits de l’Homme with the then pack leader Pellew back in ‘97. Just two frigates started in range of the heavier gunned French line ship. By the end the rest of the pack had caught up. And well, a reputation was born. Two firm loud knocks on the cabin door broke Norfolk’s attention away from thoughts past and lifted his melancholiac sour mood. “Enter...” A sharp dark blue coat with white open facings, smart breeches with snow bright stockings marched towards his desk coming to an abrupt halt two paces from the Parisian furniture. The right hand sharp but not too fast raised without the palm showing in a perfect salute. The palm facing down, towards the shoulder. Forearm and hand a solid straight line. The golden epaulettes sat on the shoulders with just the one only silver star indicting it was Rear Admiral Hethwill Blue Flag. It brought a proud adrenaline boost to Fleet. He rose from the captain’s chair, straightened his coat and returned the salute to the rank and then the man. “Good Evening Admiral Norfolk nNimitz, I wish to report the arrival of the Van-Squadron. Also, Lt-Admiral Ink wishes to pay his respects and to inform that Centre-Squadron Crews are fully fed and most now resting.” “Thank you Hethwill. Finally, they are here great news by God... Oh, and please call me Fleet...” His mood lifted, the weight on his shoulders somewhat lighter. He collected the remaining papers and maps into his satchel. A spring in his step, energy flowing at the odds now in favor. And his fears of mortally recede for the time present. “Hethwill you’ve impressed me with the state of readiness of Rear Squadron. It will be noted in my dispatches to Vice Admiral Dacres Commander-in-Chief. Jamaica Station ... Pellew left The Wolf-Pack in a safe pair of hands...” “err- why err- thank you Adm... Fleet” With the wine drained, it was time to depart the Indef. Never over stay one’s welcome not matter what rank... “Right, lets get this show on the road... Hethwill, call your XO and get my yacht ready to take me back to Flag... ...Send a note to Lt-Admiral Ink -Centre Squadron, with Complements from Fleet. Good work and at five bells bring your XO to Flag... .... Then a second note to, Vice Admiral Admin -Van Squadron, with Complements from Fleet... Is this a fcuking hint you want a pocket-watch for Christmas? I have a case of ‘97 French red Saint-Joseph that needs finishing. Full Square’s for all Van Crew’s and SPLICE THE MAIN BRACE complements of Fleet, pass this along to the men please. Then get them rested. Five bells to Flag and bring your XO... ...now, my Wolf-Pack Admiral you Sir same deal, Full Squares, Grog and resting. Bring your XO as well at five Bells... you got all that...?” “Aye aye Fleet...” with another snappy salute, one step back. He turned on heel, and marched out the cabin. All I could hear after that was yelling of orders and 350 Englishmen clambering all over this fabulous fighting frigate... -o0o- II – Midwatch Five Bells, The Flag The Bell rang out its chimes echoing across the now flat millpond in the middle of nowhere. The rain ceased bringing a welcoming fresh cool breeze instead of the normal oppressive Caribbean humidity. No moon with a still cloudy sky gave the darkness a total pitch-black tone. Visibility was impossible at distance with lanterns unlit hiding The Western Fleet from passing vessels. On his Fleet Flag HMS Victory, a 1st Rate line ship, Norfolk closed the Silver lid and returned the instrument to his waistcoat 2:30am. Standing alone at the stern on the Poop deck looking out across his command. The tremors and handshakes returned, irritated he slammed in anger his fist on the oak wooden rail. “God Damn and Blast... “ He failed to see the approaching Officer marching then an abrupt halt and with a crisp salute holding firm like a stone statue. A Startled Norfolk jumped back flustered and mildly embarrassed showing weakness. In the darkness and failing eye sight he couldn’t make out who the officer was. He adjusted, straighten his coat, stance and posture. Fleet returned the salute to the rank. “Good Morning Fleet Admiral Norfolk nNimitz, I wish to report my arrival and duties as your XO on the Flag ship HMS Victory Western Fleet.” “Dru...? Drufus Kent is that you...?” He couldn’t contain his joy with a big smile Norfolk offered out is right hand. Drufus took it in a firm grip and a warm smile. “How you doing Fleet...? its good to see you again...” “You tell me [ELITE]’s most senior [XO] that reads minds and lectures Admirals...” Both men laughed out loud and relaxed they chatted leaning on the oak rail out of all ear shot. A few years back after the Atlantic campaign of ’94, Admiralty realized the Western Fleet needed to support or reinforce the Howe led Atlantic Fleet. The larger Western Fleet sub-Divisions like [ARMED][SLRN][VCO] or [CKA] where not flexible enough to break off Caribbean operations at a moment’s notice. What was needed was a smaller highly trained bespoke Division that could respond at short notice with effective ALPHA. Norfolk nNimitz was tasked, forming [ELITE] with Drufus Kent as an XO and just five Captains. With success and growth capped at just 10 Captain’s the Division became a highly effective team taking on much larger Battle Rated fleets. They were soon allocated the newly formed land based amphibious light infantry Corps of the Royal Navy, not British Army controlled or funded. The Corps was called The Royal Marines [RM] and a small unit would sail onboard with each [ELITE] ship. Norfolk nNimitz success with [ELITE] brought promotion but also a recall to Admiralty and new assignments to follow. Drufus remained and settled in as [XO] becoming the small Division’s backbone. He served and instructed, possibly lectured its leaders well including the current one. This niche focus and tight team bonding created a more Cult type status compared to her peers. “How’s the kid doing...? I need to ask” “He’s absolutely fine, a real Cult Clan Leader. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree Fleet. He loves his Captains and crew and they him. Drilling home First Situational Awareness, then what’s the Ship Differentials and what’s my Forced Multiplier...? Just like you did back in ’95...” “Good, good am glad. His mother God rest her soul would have been be proud... Right Dru, anything else to discuss before we go to my Day Cabin for the Operational Meeting?” “Yes Sir, two things first all Squadron Leaders and their XOs are present. I instructed the Purser to open the Saint-Joseph and clear the main table... and secondly your younger Brother has also arrived. I introduced Norfolk nWay to the Officers but not who or what he does. I left him at your desk with his dispatches and papers.” Both men adjusted their coats, straighten the posture saluted the rank. Then they walked together, Dru just slightly behind across the Poop and then the Quarter Deck to the Bow returning back towards the stern and cabins below. -o0o- III – The Great Cabin HMS Victory Norfolk and Drufus walked into the Admiral’s day or Great Cabin. Immediately all talk stopped with six Officers stood to attention in their No.2 mess Dressed Uniforms. Dru peeled off and dropped into the Officers line. Norfolk busily shuffled with the satchel already part open headed towards the large mahogany table... “At ease, at ease Gentleman. We’ve a lot to get through so wine, port and cheese at the back table feel free as and when. Let’s gather around the table and look at the first Maps now while I go have a quiet word with my dear brother... ... and remember the battle is always won before any Naval Action” A spontaneous united chorus burst out in reply.... “Aye aye Fleet...” See map 1 Fleet greeted Norfolk nWay with a laugh and a hug at his desk. He was ten years the younger a Civilian dressed in a deep red coat and white undershirt. A tall man at 6’2 starting to show signs of greying hair a full dark beard with grey edges and a growing middle. A Fashionable man of business and commerce. “Good morning, Nimmy. You look -err well you’ve aged since we last met. At Felicity’s funeral late, last year wasn’t it?” “My little nWay, it looks like you’ve been living well and a man about town so I hear... Yes yes, it still burns me her passing. We agreed on our first day of marriage all them years ago, I would leave her a widow and a good Navy Captains pension... we agreed Brother, she broke her promise ...now what do you have for me?” “The second dispatch from Dacres at the Jamaica Station, also my analysis report. Dacres agreed with my assessment and Parker in London gave it the go. He gave you the Go... Look Nimmy this is not going to be a walk in the park...” Fleet raised his hand cutting off Norfolk nWay mid-sentence. “I know, look we need to press on time is short. I’ll open the SitRep discussion explain who you are and give you the floor to start then I’ll take over. Remember some of these six men won’t be alive tomorrow and they know it. England expects like my friend said... ...and they’ll do it... So, let’s give these young Officers some respect in return. We give them all the information its not a need to know...” Now it was nWay’s turn to hold his hands up, but more in defeat or surrender than anything else. “Don’t you want to read the dispatch plan and my analysis report first?” “My dear little Brother you’ve still much to learn, my mind is set and heart is strong. What more do I need? Come on let’s get some good wine drunk and tell me about your friend Richard Wellesley. What on earth is [EDARK] doing with the East India Company...?” They walked to the back table. Filling their glasses with the Saint-Joseph nWay still shaking his head in comic disbelief. “Nimmy how the hell in God’s name do you know about that? Look EIC pays just as well as Admiralty...” Laughing Fleet walked to the head of center table now covered in charts and what nots. “Gentlemen shall we get started...?” Just then Admin handed him a full glass of red. God, the man can now read minds can’t tell the time, but reads minds. Is there no end to his talents? Admin stood arms folded with pride and a smirk in silence ready to watch Fleet perform once more. He’d known no other who could put on this magic show, that most outsiders don’t understand or realize its importance... Fleet Admiral Norfolk nNimitz raised his glass in the air “For England, and God save King George...” “The King...” the loud rapturous reply came instantly back, and stamping of feet demanding more... The men needed this more than I, making them brothers for the rest of their short lives that remain. He just had to play to the crowd feeling the love and emotion over whelming for them and the Navy bringing a tiny tear to his eye. He raised he glass once more... “To my dear departed friend, and our Patent Bridge Race...” “His old Agamemnon’s...” a union of a firm loud somber tone filled the cabin. No stamping or laughing... He slowly raised his glass one last time... “Now to the last but by no means least, a Toast to our Wives and Sweethearts...” Another huge high-octane spontaneous chorus burst out “...and may they never meet...” Still causing him to smile after all these years. Admin, Ink and the rest laughing out loud... -o0o- IV – Midwatch Six Bells, The Battle Plan “Admiral of the fleet Sir Peter Parker has given his approval for this operation. Look at the map and the right end of the red line is our current position. At the start of the Morning Watch the Western Fleet will sail North East heading to the lower right side of the French held PORT of Tiburon. We need to keep below the blue line... ...with our three squadrons we’ll attack the stationed Fleet and sink, burn or take a prize the 25 Indiaman-class trade ships docked there. The trade winds are moving North West, building strength pitching more toward North North West today and tomorrow. It’s a smash and grab we will not take the port just raise it to the ground... ...I’ll hand over the next section to Norfolk nWay to give a macro picture of our situation and what to expect there upon our arrival...” Fleet Admiral Norfolk nNimitz was in his element feeling the adrenalin pump through his veins. He took a good swig from his glass his eye catching the grinning Admin. He knows Fleet’s ego well and that mind firing on all levels was a pleasure to see the Old Admiral work. “First though, I think we owe you a debt for the courage you supply. So, it’s fitting you understand where and how we got this information. Admiralty realized sometime back that we needed more detailed information on local theatres of operations to reduce risk and increase the odds of success... ... my old friend always had with him aboard ship Rev Alexander Scott. He’d sneak him ashore and let him walk through the towns and villages gathering intelligence. This included talking to his Catholic clergy counterparts. Their vast next work carried back and forth information from the four corners of the Globe to Pope Pius VII in Rome. Admiralty needed to expand and exploit on this new concept. We are entering a new dimension in warfare Gentlemen... ... A Caribbean outpost of a British private company was setup called [EDARK] by Admiralty run by Norfolk nWay. This special operations sister Division to [ELITE] had a role to build intelligence solutions in all four corners of the Caribbean. Assets controlled by [EDARK] have now successfully placed within most major Nations...” He knew his men might not like this new type of under handed warfare. Promising the whole story this needed to be told. He nodded to his brother stepping aside moving next to Admin to listen. “Thank you, Fleet... We believe there is a high probability the true Creole Spanish local people, will try to retake the Colony of Santo Domingo the eastern half of the island. Timeline is immediate so one to three months. Spain is ripping itself apart with civil war and its rolling over now into the Caribbean... ...The France/Spain strong alliance is crumbler-ling. The French army was destroyed in Russia so Boney is low on resources and moral. France here in the Caribbean, is thinking the same... ...The intelligence reports started to show a re-trench movement from Macao to El Soco all the way back to Tiburon the Haiti part or the French West side. This over the last two months. If we the Royal Navy successfully struck a main local French fleet and supply ships now it could cause havoc to Boney in the region. No doubt it would inspire the Spanish to up rise within Santo Domingo but also in local French Haiti with no Battleships or support the tinder box of a slave uprising here also is quite possible. This one strike now could be the tipping point needed in the Caribbean with France unable to send support...” See Map2 Norfolk nWay laid down a file with “for your eyes only...” stamped in red across the titled “New L’Ocean Unsinkable-class” on the table and turned with a quick nod to Nimmy giving him the floor... “Fleet, my I request the use of your ready room to shave and change before I depart on to my Brig...?” “of course, my man just through that door there, the Purser will supply hot water etc...” The tall bearded man with case in hand, and sporting his red jacket and top hat left the room without another word. -o0o- V – Ready Room His clothes laid out neat on the chair and chez lounge with a quick wash as best as could be mustered. Taking out his short scissors he started to clip the full beard. Next the Ivory handle Switch Blade cut throat razer he sharpened on the Strop... He started to get into character once more saying to himself... “carpe noctem, carpe noctem...” Next door, Hethwell twisting and turning to read the file left by nWay with as much subtlety as Josephine’s infidelity.... “Admiral Hethwill, please hand me the big red leather book on the shelf behind thee before you do yourself a mischief...” Hethwill looking along the bookshelf saw the large King James Bible size red book with the title “Fleet Commanders Companion [FCC] “emblazoned on the front and sides, the Bible also notably missing. “Here you go Sir...” “No boy, my eyes tire at this time. Go through the chapters find Ships and then the L’Ocean...” The book was a Bible of sorts but more for the Captain than the God-fearing man of the age. Fleet Tactics, Ships, Campaigns and Battles to list just some of the chapters. He found ships then L’Ocean with a couple of pages of detailed information. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Océan-class_ship_of_the_line http://www.navalactionwiki.com/index.php?title=L'Ocean “Notice how she is named with the 74-Gun Temeraire-Class ship Gentlemen, similar to our own HMS Bellona. These two ships when combined together gain several more abilities. So be warned...” “Hethwill, read the Norfolk nWay [EDARK] file out then add it to the FCC pages please for future reference...” Finding one single page only he read it to himself first, New L’Ocean class build now even heavier with little roll. She doesn’t suffer leaks and can take more punishment than ever before. Venerable still the stern, needs Temeraire cover also. Attack recommends “Doubling” then boarding... At Tiburon expect eight to ten L’Ocean-class with four Termerarire support. He starts energetically to flick back and forth through the red book TACTICS, Battle Strategy, Tactical Fleet Command... looking searching for doubling... Ink about to speak but Fleet just raised his hand slightly subtle even just off the table. Stopping Ink’s protest and allowing the lads brain to work, search and think without speaking... http://www.hnsa.org/resources/manuals-documents/age-of-sail/the-elements-and-practice-of-rigging-and-seamanship/ “I’ve got it, I think I know what’s needed Fleet...” A laughing and a coo-ing from the old salts jeered the young Admiral along... “Come on then tell us Admiral Hethwill” Fleet receding the floor to the young Captain. The smiling but red-faced new Admiral walked to the center of the table. “Ok, ok... OK we’ll have the wind NNW and Van-Squadron needs to drive up and at ‘em then just before contact pulls away North. This pulling the defense fleet with him (Admin) or at least the 74s. The Centre Squadron goes straight at them this time... ...Admiral Ink goes in and behind raking their main defensive line. HMS Victory stands off waiting to support either Van or Centre as needed. The three Mortar Brigs in my squadron knock out the towers and fort to aid Centre Squadron. ...The battlefield will tend to drift NW and away from the port with Admin and Ink “Doubling...” into the defensive line with some sterns showing to Centre squad... ...An Open wedge now forms between Defensive line and harbor thus allowing the Trade ships maybe to make a run for it. The wind though only allows for La Navasse or follow the battle ahead. My Wolf-Packs drop on the trade ships even though we are outnumbered the supply fleet don’t stand a chance... ...The continued Doubling on the L’Ocean and with the NNW driving them more towards shore or they can turn W into Admin but leave their sterns open for Ink... There fish in a Barrel Sir...” “Well let’s say sharks with big teeth in a barrel, but very good Hethwell. Any questions...?” With that one loud knock from the Ready Room door shifted everyone’s attention away from the table. “Enter...” said the Old Admiral The 6’2 man now dressed in a black cowl hooded Priests robe with a white rope belt holding a Latin bible. His hair tied back and beard now in a neat penciled goatee fashion placed him a European man of the cloth. Spanish or Italian looking... The Officers stood a gash open mouthed at the transformation. Fleet closed in and took his brothers hand “Were to now my little Brother, it looks dangerous...?” “Sale-Trou first then north to Saint-Marc maybe to cause chaos and mayhem hoping to inspire freedom in some of Gods children. You take care Nimmy these ships these L’Ocean’s....” “I know brother, let Dru take you to your Brig and God’s speed...” Both men laughing as Dru walked the priest from the Cabin to his awaiting Brig. Fleet slammed his hand down on the table looking directly at Ink... “Never mind the maneuvers Ink, just go straight at ‘em. You clear?” the response so cold so clear “Straight to the gates of hell Fleet, Aye aye Sir.” “...Whichever way they go Double or rake them to back to hell....” Any other questions Gentlemen...? -o0o- VI – Morning Watch, One Bell, Quarter Deck HMS Victory ...He is Fleet... He walked back and forth with Dru just behind. Sun just starting to rise. The ships all a sail moving towards battle. The men hard at work, sing a chant to help them along. The Officers ignore this as it keeps their minds focused and off what’s to come... ...We are Fleet... Fleet looked confused trying to listen to the rhythmic beat ...His Ole Eggs N Bacon... “Dru what are the men singing about...? ...He is Fleet... ...We are Fleet... ... His Ole Eggs n Bacon... “Sir, what do you mean? “The men what are they singing about...” Drufus Kent[ELITE] stood and laughed out loud in front of his old Admiral “I have no idea Admiral Norfolk Nimitz...” Lying through his teeth ...He is Fleet... ...We are Fleet... ... His Ole Eggs n Bacon... -o0o- Epilogue - Kingston/Port Royal Norfolk nChance walked down from his lodgings on the hillside towards town, his R&R nearly over. The view of the Carlisle Bay and the Kingston/Port Royal shipping channel always busy both day and night insight. The overnight downpour left the green flora and fauna with a lush cut grass smell. “Read all about...read all about it...” His approach grew closer so too did the volume in chatter and more pungent smells any working harbor has. “Read all about it... The Jeheil Times... read all about...” Just coming onto the harbor front seeing witness to the drunk leaving the Red Lion in an argument. He continued his walk towards the Harbormasters Cabin. “British Success at the French PORT of Tiburon... Read all about it...” He walked over to the kid stood on an upturned barrel with half a dozen broadsheets across his arm. Norfolk flick a coin into the cap on the floor which looked like business was doing well for the boy. He handed him a broadsheet... “Thank-yee Captain...” Norfolk nChance froze to a chill on the stop as the headline jumped off the page at him... British Success at the French Port of Tiburon comes with the loss of a fleet legend. The heavy cost of this Naval Action... -o0o- the end
  21. yes my next idea is called.... Idea: Norfolk reads The Fleet Command Skill Book It will take a few days to finish. Either as an out of game source that drives in game content. Or/and the skill to command squadrons with fleet bonuses NnC
  22. @John Hood Try this first, STEAM, go to Naval Action and RIGHT click Left click Properties Third tab “local Files” click fourth tab down select “VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES” Next, STEAM Top left Steam select, then select settings DOWNLOADS then select bottom tab “CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE” You’ll be asked to re-load into steam afterwards Hope this helps Norfolk
  23. Idea: Forum Ship description list with BR BASE @admin Nice update and the ship as well. Like the idea of a dynamic Battle Rating system. And it rolled out slowly... The Battle Rating System... Again, may I suggest a forum area dedicated to either each ship of at least ship Ratings or small peer groups. Otherwise a single thread just goes off at all sorts of tangents and nothing can be seen clearly. Running Before we walk... We need to agree or actually see the BR Universe size and where each and every baseline ship fits first. Then relativity where that ship balances in relation to every other ship. Peer Groups as well. Like you said this is a game, even so The Theory of General Relativity in NA-OW boxed universe needs to be understood. Just like in our world. We should see the relative balance between an Essex, a Snow and a Santisima. If we can’t the game is not balanced. Battle Rating Influences... If the highest BASE rating is 1,000 how is it made up? What @vazcopoints out Battle Performance like LeRq is great for capping circles while the L’O is a floating heavily tanked battery. They have very different roles in the same battle. What weighting would be given to a BASE L’O at 1,000 made Fir/Fir the adjustment should be significant. But why? The Ship build is out of context to its role or purpose for its reason within the game. This is why we need the BASE description list of all ships first, a BASE build Renommee will be different build from an Essex to a Santisima build. Instinctive or Intuitive... I should be able to talk to @Intrepidoabout new ship that will drop into the game. Intuitively we should both feel where it should fit and handle. All this before seeing it. This can only happen if the ships are relatively balanced first. Mods, Buffs and Stacks... Later as the Battle Rating model grows and settles in then the mods can come into play. I also think out side buffs can be applicable with logical/historic linked mixed ship groupings. Defensive Divisional squadrons consisting of exactly the same ship in a PB should encounter nerfs as well to balance. Closing You and the team are getting there. This game is happening, and its coming to life. The dynamic BR is a brilliant idea. Keep up the great work... These are just my thoughts, and a six-month outsider as well. So, if you think its rubbish let me know and if you can do better likewise... Norfolk nChance [ELITE]
  24. @Hullabaloo Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 500 (I think its 5000?) https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/d/wireless-comfort-desktop-5000 This is the driver for the 5000 You’ve said the keyboard works ok during the day etc. Only playing Naval Action and when typing in chat does it crash. This I think could be the issue, “Wireless Bluetooth” Power Management. You need to uncheck a box I think. When gaming, especially high graphics usage like NA the computer is trying to run more efficiently and will turn off Bluetooth apps like the keyboard. [1] First bottom left Search box type “Device Manager” [2] left click “Bluetooth”, then click “Intel(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) [3] Far right tab click “Power Management” [4] Make sure “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” Box is unchecked. Hope this helps Norfolk
