Disengage. Re-boarding cool down timer.

I reckons there should be a 20 or 30 second cool down between the time tow ships disengage, and when a capn can chose to board again.

 

 

Otherwise, "Disengage" is of no value, unless the other ship be out of prep, which is very rare.

 

Seems bait more fair, as grappling hooks will need to be made again. The last set been hacked off.

That was already the case before and it was shit. Frigate boards frigate. Player 2 hits disengage, player 1 barely inflicts anything worth of casaulties because it avoids the rock paper scis formula and only attack causes decent kills. Then after 4 turns player 2 is free and pisses off before player 1 can do anything....which is why they removed the effect and went back to the drawing board

The disengage needs to be some form of skill based mechanic. Like the player in question needs to counter 3 moves in a row and then has the option to break free.

I agree that the current "disengage system" isn't satisfying. Neither was what we had before. I'm hoping the changes coming in the next patch will fix this. 

- Right now disengaging doesn't mean anything, even if you know how to disengage and board it's impossible to actually disengage. The enemy will currently always be able to reengage the boarding before the defending/disengaging ship has any chance to get away.

I know how frustrating this disengaging can be, for some nigh on impossible... but my question is, in reality how easy was it to disentangle your ship from the myriad of grappling hooks, ladders and boarding planks?

 

If your decks were swarming with enemy, could you afford to send detachments off to cut and free your vessel and if so..... at what price?

Likely not very

But in a game play sense there needs to be some form of viable, skill based escape.

Theres basically 2 boarding scenarios:

1. The hopeless. Frigate boards brig. Twice the crew. Brig will almost certainly be boned. Heres where the escape is needed, if the brig player is a master he should be able to have a chance to escape an average frigate player.

2. The consentual board: frigate boards frigate. Perhaps one has upgrades but ultimately equal ships wi5h equal potential, when one captain starts to lose and has 50 crew left he should not be able to disengage because he commited to the battle.

After successfully boarding and completing 1 round of boarding battle (To avoid those half a second boarded/interrupted issues) the boarder should lose 50 prep points. These points considered spent on grappling, tying yards together etc etc.

 

The defender will therefore have a distinct advantage if already prepped for boarding (As it should be). Differences in deck height, crew numbers and fast or slow preparation gain between boarding rounds then comes into play.

 

The cost to re-grapple will therefore take as much time as the attacker needs to regenerate points back up to 50 following a successful disengage.

Then the outcome is the same as before. Disenegage becomes the standard tatic and boarding is rendered mostly useless.
