What part, all of it???? and were did you see this. or just the xp or just the money or just the marks.  If you don't get all three you can not play as a boarder ever.

You can get XP for surrendered ship if you sink it. But its bugged.

No it wont in a avg week before the wipe was announced.... I in pvp only,  I would easily kill or cap over 100 ships a week. Ranging from 1st rates to Cutters.  I never sold one ship because no1 needed them.  Maybe 1 out of 10 1st rates was worth giving to a clan mate others always were broken down.  The system wont work as intended it can't.  Right now if this went live I would forced to use a non boarding slugger until I max out everything not just few ships but everything.  Now I will never need XP again. Then I could use my marks to reset and start boarding boats properly.  Let us not forget I need twice the amount to do this, as I will never see another mark once I do this.  As soon as I do it no one that is NOT maxed out, like me, they will not want to group with me as I am a plague.  They will never get xp,money or marks with me in group.  So I am a lonely "Lime" Solo ships until I run out of money.  Not cool

I assume this was when everything was still 5 durability? Why would anyone sane buy something that is one durability and risk their mods that cost more than the ship if they sink?

Now everything is 1 durability so you can potentially cap a good ship from a player in one good battle who spent a lot of hauling and crafting time to create it. You saved yourself from a lot of crafting and hauling time by having better hunting skills. If you want to be really cynical you can sell it back to the one you took it from if it's possible or extort him for marks inside the battle if trading with enemies would become possible inside the instance to let him keep his ship. Wouldn't that be cool ? In potbs some players offered 100 marks to save their precious ship when caught in battle and wanted to live.

So no money to pay for crew and never be able to get out of boarding setup on that one ship because you can't get marks yea that is smart

No (inflationary/charity)rewards for NPC capturing. I am fine with that.

Capture a proper player ship,it very valuable, with upgrades and cannons.Should be award enough.

So you think its ok that I will never get another slot open on a ship I am in because i decide to go boarding.  With no easy way to switch to slugger build my gun fire 50% slower than everyone else.  Not to mention I spend prob 3 or 4 times more money maybe more due to crew lose in a single battle.  That sounds ok to you

How do you explain it to him so that it actually reaches him? I am probably wasting my time but I am glad I am not the only one who sees the emerging possibilities.

1. Capturing an AI trader, which is small and easy to board should not be awarded well.YOU CAN HAVE the CARGO.Sink the ship, with captured CARGO and XP(when fixed) it is a reward enough.

2. I do not care if "they" switch it. Capturing AI is not my "business".

3. In PvP i dont care what reward is given. Capture or sink is decision which each player needs to make on its own.Depends on lot of reasons, some like to board, some like to sink.Aint matter of reward.

4. If capturing AI is your main occupation, you might switch over to PvE server. :)

lol I don't care if it is PVP or PVE. I am a PVPer as a boarder I should get the same XP, Marks, and money you get for sinking a ship.

Yes you do "care".

Explained you what the difference is.

On my behalf this discussion is over.

You can't,  I have.  As a Boarder I should be able to get the same marks, xp and money you do if its PVP or PVE when you kill them.  If you kill a bla bla pvp u get 2 marks and ### xp, and so much money I should get the same if I cap the same ship in PVP.  If you sink a 4th rate connie PVE and get 4 PVE marks, #### xp and #### money. I should get the Same for a Cap In PVE.

If you attack a player in a basic cutter and sink him you get 2 pvp marks, some xp and some money

If I attack a player in a Basic cutter and Cap him I get nothing.

If you attack a NPC trader brig and sink him you get 2 PVE marks, XP, and money

If I attack a NPC trader brig and cap him I get nothing.

Done with that.

Sounds like a broken record playing 24/7....I want marks for boarding i want marks for boarding i want marks for boarding..........money too money too money too..XP as well XP as well XP as well...

Captured ship from a player is reward enough. Valuable enough.

Good because u can not see that the only 2 different type of Fighters killers and capers should get the same rewards

ntIn the beginning before anyone has accumulated enough resources I believe people will live off and pvp on capped npc ships because of perceived equal setting, once the arms race gives certain teams (with a bit of help from alts) ability to produce maxed out player made ships, they will only sail those and just steamroll those still in npc ships and not only are the victims undergeared but probably also lack the pvp experience but they get the false impression that they need maxed out player made ships too before they can even compete so they skirt on the sidelines farming/hauling and not taking part in pvp wars before they get access to these ships that the ''cool'' guys have or in worst case just give up and go play arena lol. Again I am not really familiar with the loss covering and I never really much crafted so my view might be biased.

My main concern is that these player made ships should not be like getting Quad damage in Quake behind a huge grindwall, everyone who does not have it will run and hide from the one who has it so on one hand to make player made ships valuable you need to make them stronger and desirable but not too strong to give false impression that it's impossible to compete against for newer players.

Not everyone min/maxes.  A lot of those guys are former PVE grinders turned PVP or they came from arena pvp games like WOW where "gear" ruled the arenas.

The ridiculous grind to get 1st rate unlocks will keep most players at x2 unlocks until fall. I know I have no intention of bothering with it. A 1 skill unlock isn't all that far behind and no one is going to get steam rolled who wasn't already getting steam rolled due to player skill.   Add to that there will be pure pvp players that want to spend there time in fast action and not ship building. They will go through ships in hot spots like La Navasse and La Tortue faster than they will be building them or amassing the gold to buy them.

As a pirate last year I sailed almost nothing but Fir ships.  Plenty told me it wouldnt work. Thing is you can time the enemy broad sides in your head and put enough angle on at the right time they still don't rip through the hull. By the end of the year most pirates we hunting in Fir ships. Not because the stats were the best but because the player skills improved beyond the gear.

So I really think captured ship merchants are going to be just fine if not all the way to the end, definitely in the beginning.

@JobaSet Well if you want ships, you cap them. If you want marks and money rewards, sink the ship.

Ive never met someone that was "only" a boarder or brawler. Everyone does both, it just depends on the situation.

If you only ever board ships that's a pretty limited combat style.

There was definitely a crowd in game last year that did strictly cap ships.  Its part of the min/max way of thinking. Maximum efficiency was achieved not by sinking the target but by capturing it. You got all the xp, the gold, the hull, the guns, the cargo and if a player you got the mods on the 1 dura left over hull which you could break down, sail, trade or sell.   If you sunk it you just xp and gold. Very inefficient and un-min/maxi. The new system insults their way of thinking. They will be forced to throw away a prize to get the gold and xp.

I do both as well.  The problem also lies in not being able to switch easily "Brawler or Boarder "  Like you have in the past.

Brawler is only way to get anything done.  An I like to board also. But if I start boarding I am stuck.... as I will not level any more as my friends do and get behinde and will be poor to boot

Throwing a shitty Prize away for xp, marks, and Money worth it in long run. As is if the bug gets fixed and all I get will be XP.  I will be left behind

Single Pvp'ers cant find single targets as everyone is grouped up

Smaller nations without big enough playerbase for trading and escorting - dead

I don't see anything in any of the patch notes that change anything enough to make either of these be true.

There will always be solo PvPers out hunting. It has always been safer and better to hunt in a group but that doesn't stop people from soloing and doing well at it. Solo haulers are taking a big risk because they're slow but solo PvP will work just fine, just like always. Why wouldn't it?

As for smaller nations -- you make it sound like they're dead if they can't round up a 20 person fleet just to haul some iron. That's silly. Really so many fights in this game are purely because someone got lazy, sloppy or wasn't paying attention and sailed into a trap. I think a fleet of 4 players with just 1 sailing ahead in a Pickle looking for enemy groups will probably have an easy time doing trade runs. They don't have to fight the group of 20. They just have to spot them from far enough away and avoid them.

A bigger nation can certainly blockade a particular port but they can't cover the whole map with groups of 20. Nor would they want to.

For the people who talk about crew cost, you should be using medkits -- or I guess as of this patch, rum.

Or are you saying rum is really expensive now? I have not logged into the patch to see how the rum is used now. But previously you never wanted to buy crew if you could possibly have access to medkits instead.

Sailed fir only since it was released, never understood the oak/live oak mania but I am fine if majority wants to gimp themselves.

That's me and my new problem, though the sinkfarming shouldnt take too long I hope.

Pvping solo with 1 dura ship is such a fun blast, everyone should try it at least once. Without having fallback replacement ships and preferably capping one from the enemy.

i don't think we pve players can complain at all. the patch is awesome for us . Y? Because it gives us things to hunt and things to do. All the nifty little perks and slots to the ships, the books , the adm. store etc. all gives us pve players something to do and even the trading and lack of gold. all great stuff. if the ai gets more aggro , it will be even more fun. and the crafting wow great change. i started a new char on testbed , a week ago and i am leveling pretty fast , maybe a little too fast. gold seems to be ok, so far. i haven't gotten into crafting or trading yet because i don't have that much time at the moment and  i wanted to see how it is leveling char with the new patch. all in all great changes devs.

Isn't rum to use in the battle instance, and then medkits small, medium, large, to replenish crew? I think i tried to use medkits in port (patch 2),and I didn't seem to be able to?
