Cargo Hold

I do not know your final plans for the cargo hold changes, but...

I have no idea if the new cargo hold sizes are more realistic than the ones before, and I actually do not care about realism in this one.

 

Before you had an OW PvP scenario...

 

1. You cannot craft ships, if you or someone else is not using a trader to bring the resources in the same port.

2. Trade ships, weak targets, and you try to avoid enemies, and do your best to transport your goods safely.

3. Pirates or other nationalities hunting and capturing trade ships.

4. Escorts to protect traders.

 

 

The scenario is what piracy is pretty much all about.

 

So now warships have decent cargo holds?  I really hope you have some big final plan for the bigger cargo holds, and if so I would really love to hear that one, but...  In case you do not have, you do understand that you actually broke a big part of the game in the last patch?

 

If there is no big final plan for the warship cargo holds, I recommend to undo these changes.

It might be a matter of fine tuning (maybe it's too much now I don't know) but warship cargo holds needed to be increased to add one more line in your scenario :

 

5. A lonely captain sail for a "long" voyage : fishing + hunting a trader (or a couple) + get a wreck treasure trove + trade say 50-100 of something + fight a couple of time.

 

With those new cargo hold, you won't buy all the goods of the Caribbean in a voyage or make your small warship/frigate an indestructible armed trader, you'll just have some space for multi-tasking during the same voyage. It will add sailors in OW. More time in the sea. More PvP.

tldr; "pvp'er" angry that they might have to actually versus a player now rather than rage boarding an unarmed trade ship.

 

Very reductive assessment. Do you play Naval Action for the "simulation" of age of sail or for other less related reasons ?

I think that Devs forgot to take into account, that warship cargohold was filled with food supplies, cannon balls and powder etc. :).

 

Yes. Thank you for slapping some sense into the "poor unarmed trader" crew. :lol:

Smuggle goods in not hauling four thousand tons. Smuggle good is not stuffing every empty space, including the weather deck with ingots of copper.

 

In 1812 like in a lot of other troop transport operations, such as the ill fated landings on Ireland by the french, the troop transports were full to the rails with landing parties living on deck and barricade canvas being used as canopies during bad weather.

 

A ship is a ship and whether it is a trader or a warship will always depend on how you use the cargo space. Do they take the guns off or not ? Do the gun ports get sealed shut for the entire trip to keep the cargo safe ? ...

 

Pirates is an entire different subject and can tell you outright that one of the most looted type of resources was food, drink, shot and gunpowder. Goodies came second.

 

So, a Trader Snow suddenly becomes a Snow if the cargo hold is full of war supplies, including food and drink for the crew.

The same way a Snow becomes a Trader Snow if you remove the guns and all war supplies and seal shut the gun ports.

 

We can go on with this forever...

3-6 months worth of supplies, yes.

 

If you were making a supply run from Puerto Rico to Florida, you would only need a few weeks of supplies, and could replace the rest with cargo.

Then a simple solution would be get rid of trader vessel class, and just stick with the original ship of its type.  If you put guns on it you lose cargo space, if you don't you gain cargo space.  You can also adjust your crew capacity for cargo.  

 

Basically options for each person on their ship. 

 

If you want to sail around in a gutted Snow with 20 men and 3200 tones of cargo, then by all means. 

 

 

Basically what we need is this:

 

Replace Trader's Snow/Brig/Cutter/Lynx with a built-in mod that does the following: -10% speed, +30% cargo space

Allow partial arming of gundecks, with a bonus to cargo space for each gun removed. 

Cargo space bonus for undercrewed vessels.

 

And then keep LGV and Indiaman the way they are.
