  1. Well, the "all vs Spain" era is finished. Deal with it.
  2. Of course the literal translation is not used when talking about ships, yet the ethimology of the word -both as a sustantive as a participle/adjective- is absolutely correct. It comes from the latin armāta, which is the feminine form of armātus, which, you guessed it, means armed. Yes, the same participle/adjective word. No one was making a literal translation but pointing out the origin of the word, and thus, no amends were needed. Un desperdicio de cuarto mensaje, pero gracias por participar, y un saludo afectuoso.
  3. A ship with a much richer history and a long and successful career: Rayo (San Pedro Apostol), 1768 It spent much of her life as an 80-gun ship, but for Trafalgar was already armed with 100 guns. It was the oldest ship to participate that battle. As 80-gun ship 30 24 pounders 32 18 pounders 18 8 pounders 2 3 pounders As a 100-gun ship 30 36 pounders 32 24 pounders 30 8 pounders 4 4 pounders 4 28 pd carronades.
  4. A bit early, but quite interesting ship: Nuestra Señora de la Concepción y las Ánimas, 1688. 94 guns: 28 18 pounders 26 12 pounders 24 8 pounders 12 6 pounders 4 4 pounders
  5. They are .PDF files. I will rotate and convert them to any format you need. .JPG? Here they are https://www.dropbox.com/s/7eduabbu1rmvj79/SfernandoP1.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/rww5i7qdp5pfhrh/SfernandoP2.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/xd89393d9qqvdao/SfernandoP3.jpg?dl=0
  6. I think it's better to have this one in a separate thread, so here it is. Information about the ship (spanish) http://www.todoababor.es/listado/navio-sanfernando2.htm Plans: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9lyp0l22903t80x/scan01662.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/n7ug4zg8ni6xqxm/scan01663.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/nwz7fof6f38eikk/scan01664.pdf?dl=0
  7. For some reason they scanned them in .pdf, but the quality is nice. San Fernando 1725, 60-62-gun SoL https://www.dropbox.com/s/9lyp0l22903t80x/scan01662.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/n7ug4zg8ni6xqxm/scan01663.pdf?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/nwz7fof6f38eikk/scan01664.pdf?dl=0 Make it happen!
  8. Victory! I found them. I'll get the San Fernando scanned ASAP.
  9. I'm going to drive tomorrow to the place where I stored some boxes. Wish me luck in finding those plans! It'll take me a while to dive in there and find something worthy
  10. I'd fund research on cancer and other diseases we should have gotten rid of years ago.
  11. I put a good deal towards SC's development, so I hope they really do something with it. So far NA has given me far more in return
  12. Armada means literally "armed". It marks the difference between the merchant fleet and the war navy. It's the name of the whole War Navy, full name Real Armada Española (Royal Spanish Navy), but it can be applied to a task force/fleet.
  13. For Spain's greatest, Blas de Lezo IMHO.
