  1. Remember what happens when you give everyone what they want.......where do you stop, just names, then paint schemes and then sails? Please lets not go down a road that has been well trod, and leads in PotBS case, nowhere! Immersion or total freedom? I know which one I would choose! Freedom! Immersion?
  2. Too much Freedom is a step away from anarchy ...lol
  3. However much I'd like to see my named ship.... triptyx is right, the hell this could unleash on our beloved new world could be a disaster. I have no desire to go up against HMS OWNEDYARH, or HMS WASSSUP!
  4. Lieutenant Vernon.... Welcome aboard!
  5. Sir I've just finished updating our forum - please can you add these details: Sea Lords Forum - http://forum.sealordsvf.org/ I thank you.
  6. Myself and Sea Witch have been busy bringing our dated forum up to scratch... and fit for purpose. A mass email is being prepared for all our 300+ members with a 'Call to Arms', and hopefully with the emergence of 'Naval Action' will can drag these old sea dogs out of retirement and get them back to sea where they belong. In the meantime, while I work on the NEW WEBSITE, please visit our forums below. New Forum: http://forum.sealordsvf.org/ Those interested in joining our Fleet, currently only the Royal Navy at present but other National Fleets will be organised in due course... To Join: place an introduction post in our recruitment section and we'll start the recruitment process in earnest. Good Luck and God Save the KING!
  7. Perhaps you misunderstood me.... I agree Boarding SHOULD be in, but this is an Avatar thread and I thought you were implying that how can you have boarding without Avatars. For me Avatars are mostly for vanity sake anyway as oppose to vital in-game components.
  8. I'm not sure you even need an Avatar to resolve boarding actions, afterall its not a FPS.
  9. I placed a similar post in the suggestion thread. The barking of orders are sorely missed currently, however I am sure they are on the to-do-list, but its wise to mention them now. My post:
  10. Me I'm not even remotely connected to the sea, unless of course you mean I was brought up 45 minutes from Portsmouth and the southern English coast. I dont know whether being British, an islander, gives you an affinity with the sea but I love it...I can watch its awesome majesty for hours. I'm also well versed in British Naval History, loving all things military though the Nelson era being a particular favourite of mine. The idea of sailing and warring (even virtually) in the golden age of sail, well its the stuff of dreams. Yeah Im pretty far gone...

    POTBS

PotBS Alpha, Beta and prelaunch was a great time for me, met the devs in person in London, setting up a guild of great friends, discussing plans for the future game... however it quickly appeared that the Dev's drifted from their early promises, things started to lose that historical focus... its became all cartoon avatars, buffs and gaudy colours, the UI was an absolute mess. Gone was the historical feel, and in came Purple Pirates and Disney. I agree, if NA even nods towards PoTBS it'll fail! By all means use PotBS as an example.... an example of NOT what to do!
  12. Well I am well and truly here and have already preordered. I've also put in motion the rebuilding of the SeaLords website. A call to arms has gone out to all the old SeaLords and I know many of the old members have preordered as well.... its going to be good! The SGS will always hold a very special place in my heart. The Officers and crews were the pinnacle of professionalism and virtue, and were a credit to PotBS and gaming in general. I would still deem it a great honour to sail alongside those old friends again.
  13. I agree, I too dont care at the length of the engagement..... I'm not into quick fixes, instant stats and results. Let me use this analogy... Two Bulls, one old, one young watching a herd of cows in a lower field. The Young one kicking the dirt says "I'm going to sprint down there and F**k one of those cows"... The older one chuckles, "Really, I'm going to stroll down, and F**k them all" As long as it takes my friend, as long as it takes....I hope I'm not forced into quick battles because some players feel 30 minutes or an hour is too long a battle.
  14. Thank you Sir.... Its really just a written form of the damage the viewer would see, but far less accurate and clinical.
  15. Surely only the Gun Batteries - and thats purely the %. I thought a scan across a hull would allow the Captain to judge a fairly accurate conclusion of how many of the gun ports were unuseable, and a educated guess that the gun behind it and crew damaged. The others are vague and broad in their assessment (Light, Heavy and Severe) where as the current ship icon allows accurate judgement due to percentage bars, crew numbers, sail percentage, number of repairs used etc etc.
  16. Ok thats also a valid point, ok then to reinforce the visual actual damage 'Broken masts, listing and hull damage' all visible either with the naked eye or with the spyglass... why not add some sort of damage indicator to the spyglass only. A vaguish method of informing the Captain of the damage inflicted but adding an element of detail and authenticity (with the Captain observing the other vessel from his command deck). My poor example: Note I've not added the categories (no time) but the damage could be broken up into Sails, Larboard and Starboard, Rudder etc etc
  17. I appreciate that I currently have no hands-on experience, I'm purely basing my opinion on the various videos on youtube but I'm hearing that the current build doesn't allow or give enough detail to remove a 'Health bar' and that some of you think that you need to have further information on enemy crew stats, gun stats to allow for sensible gameplay. Hmmm for me thats actually taking something away from the game, a certain level of skill. Perhaps we should just compare stats at the beginning of the engagement and declare a winner there and then (joking of course). However with regard to not enough detail in game, and this is from a current tester the following are in, and are in enough detail to be seen well enough with the Captains spyglass. [in -game] Tattered sails [in -game] Lying low in the water [in -game] Listing [in -game] Broken and shattered masts [in -game] Hull damage, shot and splintered holes Rudder damage [ Can be judged surely on the lack of maneuverability of the enemy ship] Gun station damage [ simple calculation: is the enemy firing a full broadside, partial or a non existent broadside?] All are in game currently and dont require extra detail, though I imagine that as the build progresses the detail will improve. I'm yet to be convinced that a 'show all' health bars add anything to the game other than unrealism and screen UI clutter.
  18. Excellent, thank you Leviathan... then without that accursed health bar, a well rounded Captain COULD gauge the state of the enemy purely by visual means!
  19. Valid points my friend, but from what I've seen the devs could achieve enough visual clues to allow us to draw a sensible conclusion to the state of the enemy... Tattered sails [in from what I've seen] Lying low in the water [in also] Listing [Not observed yet] Broken and shattered masts [No seen in a video yet] Hull damage, shot and splintered holes [in] With other clues, poor or slow turn rates [clear rudder damage] low broadside weight [gun station damage] All of the above would allow a Captain observing through his spyglass the ability to assess and conclude that the vessel was in trouble. All without a garish 'Health bar' in sight! Edit: Forgot 'Fire' onboard, the clearest indication that the vessel was in dire straits.
