  1. I miss the great battles thread....   what happened to it?

It's funny seeing a bunch of guys who used to be in the old zerg complaining about the new zerg.  It's not Russia's fault the band decided to break up over in GB and go 2 different ways.  The server police didn't seem to give a shit when that old zerg nuked Spain into retirement or when the same bad hombres in this thread were multi flipping Russia out of the game a year ago.

Sure the Russian zerg sucks and I'm tired of 8 to 1 ganks EVERYWHERE on the map, but why would they turn away people from joining their clan or nation?  If you pick a fight with them and then whine about numbers....perhaps you should of gone to a nation that has some.

Russian zerg is just a byproduct of changes people in this thread championed.  They wanted ports to matter.....well now they certainly do.  They wanted larger BR battles....well you got em.

  2. I think this is symptomatic of a bigger issue.  PVP rewards encourage ganking/lopsided battles.  We saw this with PVP marks and we still see it with combat medals and the missions.  What makes it even worse is the patrols are the only reliable source of medals for most players and medals are 100% needed to craft a large portion of your ships and setup your port bonuses.  Players being...well players will seek to get the most out of every situation and simply gank in numbers because it's easier and more sustainable (especially in the pvp zone).  If you can hop into several battles and kill multiple players without having to re-equip ships you grind all the more faster.  As long as these types of battles are rewarded and even encouraged the gameplay will continue.

     - Create an exchange of vic marks to permits (or dubs).
     - Implement a system where lopsided battles are rewarded less.  some sort of math where if the battle is lopsided overall damage is reduced by a factor of the imbalance.

Such a fun game isnt it

this is the game people wanted.   zergs, ports matter, high BR, stupid crazy upgraded ships....etc.  I crack up when people say the alliance system was unbalanced.

Unless they just gave all the resources back as redeemable. Then you would have a map reset and people could insta pop lvl 3 shipyard on the front line

Or we don't tie ship production investments to ports and perhaps tie them somehow into the clan.

Actually if the grind becomes excessive if makes ppl log off. NA both has excessive grinding AND the banhammerwave of '19, and ofc the vets doing the grind all over again... If they can be bothered - Which I suspect many of us won't..

Can't argue with numbers though.  People are back.  Even the Banned Privateer  🙂.  The game has stuff for them to do and for as long as it continues to give them content they'll stick around.

When dont you give people something fun and meaningful to do? Easy access to ships and port battles without an ai grind? Wouldn't it be nice if there was no other reason to log in other than to undock and sail to port battle on short notice? The Flag system would actually work if flags could only be bought in front line ports for example.. Everything gets stale but the objective should be to delay that as long as possible. AI farming does not help that. Shipbuilding grind also not since after a matter of time there will be a meta standard ship that is required to have. The first competent fleet to have that will have nothing to fear because noone will attack them until they have and equal build ship. That means no content for anyone for a while. We have all seen it many times over and I simply cannot believe how you can all defend a system that is proven to not work over a system that was not perfect but was no doubt about it better.

I'm not against this.  Raids were supposed to be coming......"soon".  The game lacks content that a player can log in for an hour or 2, fight something and log off.

The longer I play this game, the more I think long sustained RVR is bad for it.  Especially with port bonuses and ship investments.  Once a clan or nation loses their port the only options are to quit or change nations.  Perhaps that's by design so more DLCs are sold.  Who knows.  Rebuilding in another port will take weeks and again, you're at the mercy of the nations attacking you.  Winner take all mindset just doesn't work well in NA.

No. It makes the problem worse. It means everyone with an alt can get cheap permits and those without one can't. At least with a population measure the more alts the less benefit...but the basic problem is why it will not happen I guess.

they still have to sail those permits out of the ports.  You could also make it so permits purchased off the admiralty cannot be traded.

Grinds make games repetitive. It's not the XP grind I have an issue with anyway its the shipbuilding grind I find insane. If it wasn't as bad as I say it is why does this topic exist? Xp is not that bad you are right. It is extremely repetitive and boring however. I guess you're right and all the new players in steam reviews are wrong. Who cares about them anyway since we don't need a new generation of players.

Grinds may be repetitive, but they also make people log on.  While the pop might have dwindled a little bit...it's still consistently going above 1000 players during EU prime.  This is because they have something to do.  As we saw right after the pre-release wipe, grinding neutral ports puts fans in the seats.  Give MMO players some rank to hit, nerdy title or goofy cosmetic item that differentiates them from the masses and they will continue to long on until they attain them.  This is something the NA devs have yet and probably will never grasp.  I'm afraid that once most folks hit max rank and get a decent amount of books, the pop will nosedive and we'll start seeing similar levels from 6 months ago.

Ship knowledge slots is not content.  This is mundane busy work that annoys people.  But give someone a fancy flag or a special title for unboxing every frigate.....and they'll do it.  RVR gets stale because you're killing the same people over and over in battles, in particular battles that are usually one sided, and once you do a couple of them....interest wanes.  There's no clear definable goal.  Total destruction of an enemy and making them quit or change nation isn't a goal.  It's just bad game design.

Grinds are good.  Grinds without goals or good payoffs are not.  The juice has to be worth the squeeze.

Prussia lost Monk and they are going to Dutch. Krake(hansa) are super carebears and snapped up all of prussias 45 point ports early on. They refused to offer Monk any of the 45 point ports so we could build them up. Then at one point Krake threatened to pull friendship rights with Monk so that all their investments in New Orleans would be null.

So prussia just lost its best PVP clan while in the midst of a war with Russia due to a bunch of carebears having control of all the good ports.

Just curious, but why not pool resources with KRAKE in the same port?  Seems to work for the Dutch and other nations.

not a single lineship on US side? What have they been doing since release? O.o

The same question was asked in US nation chat.  Apparently coordinated shiplines and consolidated clans goes against "muh freedom" and the same old leaders doing the same thing over and over.  Art imitates IRL sometimes it seems.

REDS arent a Zerg.  A Zerg has many unorganised players wich attack in numbers, without much of a bond between them.

Reds is big yes, but also highly organises and disciplined. How else woud Reds have been able build up the Nassau defense in less then 24h? Mostly at night? By having a defiend leadership and members willing to act and follow. Not zergish at all...

If you have the numbers and the discipline, you will have the carribean🐶

REDS and Russia is very much a zerg - But it's a consistent one.  Nothing wrong with strong nations, but don't lie to yourself that some of those players/clans that joined will be gone should they lose a few ports.

Having dealt with Banished over the years, he is anything but a consistent and reliable ally.  Don't do deals with him, he'll never live up to his part in them which is why he was not allowed to take Cap Francais.

  12. Port bonuses, or lack of them, will pretty much kill any nation's attempts at a revival.  Non-PB ships simply cannot go head to head against upgraded ones.  So let's assume France loses and gets knocked back to the proverbial NA stoneage.  Can they rebuild?  Perhaps.  Sure is a lot of effort and energy lost on such an unforgiving game.  Why rebuild when the same can happen again in the span of a day.  So they quit.

I'm afraid the price of admission into RVR is now simply too high and the consequences of losing everything will eventually force players into a 2 sided zerg.....or they will simply quit.  Not a long term lasting game system in my opinion.  But I guess admin will sell more forger DLCs.

    realized

We were doing hostility for mantua. First russians joined against us after they realized that they cant sink us with their rattvisans vs our xebecs some started joining our side (because it was vs neutral port) and acted like they would want to sink on purpose against the AI in order to lower hostility. To me it looks like mechanic is flawed

    • Therefore I suggest: That it is only possible to join hostility missions when your clan is on the clan friendlist in order to reduce exploiting by alts. (Applied to attacker and defender)

    Good suggestion.

Wait so if get tag on a epic ai and die do i get tribunaled because i make it despawn for other players that are on their way back from a long sail to sink the epic ai?

IF epic AI spawned in hostility missions and you intentionally die to it in an attempt to lower hostility, then you should be brought up on tribunal.   But they don't and your comment makes Sir Texas level sorts of sense.

Half of the pirates in Cap Francais hostility sunk to AI before Polish players joined, should they get punished? I am pretty sure that @McKillen_2 was en eye-witness of that.

If they did it intentionally, yes.

If half the pirates died and you still weren't able to flip the port.....well I'm not sure how that reflects upon pirates, but it sure does make poland seem inept.  Another classic sruPL blunder.

    Appreciate you!

You cannot prove intent.  Each of the listed names, they had family emergencies after the battle started.  Or some other coincidence, unless stated overtly.  But you did prove being a spy, punishable (not sure why you brought such a thing to tribunal).

However, pitchforks work well against both sides, I like to sharpen for both and your case is presented eloquently.  :)

Admin has stated repeatedly here on the forums, those that enter the battle, should fight in it.  In the case of a couple of the accused, no damage was visibly seen being done.  I think the intent can clearly be defined and chat logs would surely back that up.  Further investigation clearly should be done.

Actually there is your alt in the pictures above, who was getting UWS missions?  So in same words your just as guilty of using alts as they are of getting sunk by AI.....which either is not against the rule.

    Right @Christendom?

I am pictured in the hostility mission, yes.  Thank you for pointing that out.  Now please use that brain of yours and notice who is at the top of the hostility mission, because it's not me.  So clearly I wasn't getting UWS missions.  As I'm sure you're aware, the very topmost slot in missions on the left side is the captain who started the mission.  Thank you for clearing that up for everyone.

I'm sure that keen detective mind of yours is better suited to assisting your new Dutch nation rather than pointing out the obvious here on the forums.   Again, thank's for your contribution.

    Christendom who?

Appreciate your comments, though none of them are germane to the discussion at hand and only hypothetical.  You also were not present in or around the battles, your participation here is irrelevant.  You cannot confirm, merely suggest that Green on Green was being used.   It was not.

    Thanks

  19. And now for the real crime of tuesday night.

    Zim
    Master Blaster
    TheMavericKnight

Going into hostility missions and intentionally sinking to lower hostility of a clan they didn't approve of taking the port.  Please note the lack of damage to the AI ships, broadsides in the middle of the water.  Lack of assists by the cerbs.  I'm also told that none of the ships had repairs and some did not have cannons, though I cannot confirm this.

Anyway, I hereby state the case this is blatant manipulation of hostility missions by various US players and clans to prevent another US clan from flipping the port.

    ----

Full disclosure the port in question was flipped by MAGIC clan and our pirate friends and allies assisted us in this endeavor, which is a tactic that has been used a number of times in the game and allowed, despite being up on tribunal, by @admin.  It was most recently used by Poland players against Cap Francais where they had an assortment of other nations assist them in hostility missions in an attempt to flip the port.

No alts were sunk.  No alts joined the opposite side of these missions to gain hostility.

But they are not stupid. They must see that it can only damage the game..and i include any alt clan in a foreign nation. And they don't need to do it

ROVERS has multiple clans is other nations, or sister clans if you will.  MONK(s) is the same.  Hethwill himself has 2 nations on his forum sig.  Texas himself repeatedly on the forums about his characters in multiple nations.  MAGIC is merely a clan of like minded Potterheads who occasionally like to play as US characters.  Nothing more.

Let's also remember that little river was first taken by the pirates, not magic, and after 15 or so attempts by the US to take it back, we negotiated merciful transition of the port back into our hands with certain stipulations.  Being open was one of them.

I fail to see the issue here.  It's not like this port was taken from another clan.  It was left neutral for over for 10+ days and the US leadership in their wisdom prevents clans from taking the port.  Even if magic were to leave it open, it would be more secure than a simple neutral port.  Seems like a lot of butt hurt is happening because their alts can't use the port anymore.

No alts were sunk.  No alts were across mains on both sides of the battle.  Hostility was not manipulated.  Feelings were hurt, that's all.
