  1. While I'm ordinarily a simple potions professor....I feel like something needs to change in the ability to make ports FFA with little to no consequence.

So I present a fairly simple solution.  Make opening a port FFA cost the same as putting a timer on the port.

Presumably a FFA port will get more traffic and more tax revenue to supplement the costs.  In reality they are just being opened by Rogue/Disgruntled clans to cause disharmony within the nation.  Case and point - The gulf by Vera Cruz.  Not 1, but 5 ports owned by a different clan than the clan that actual owns and pays for the region with zero ability to change this.  A clan should not have the ability to hold others hostage in this fashion with zero cost.

A better ability would that the owner of the region has to approve all timer/port entry options, but that might be too elaborate of a change.

If a clan wants to go rogue or be dicks, fine....but they shouldn't be able to do it for free while the owner of the region shoulders the burden of paying for it.

    Thoughts?

You might want to check the map, it's not a PIrate port any more.  Maybe we wanted to switch clans, maybe we wanted a better fight, maybe a lot of things.   You will never know since your not Dutch.  Maybe keep out of others business and worry about your own nation.   Actually loosing a few ports around that area would be good for AI farming.

That port has always been a bitch to defend or take.    The wind can kill either team specially once it starts turning it could  change the whole match big time.

Last time Hartz split like this it was like 2 weeks and I think he went on drill or something and came back, so I expect him to be back soon and his typical RAGING ROID self.  I kinda feel for the guys left, as it's was not a surprised that Raz runs off to another nation as soon as the heat gets hot, just like he did in Russia, US, GB, France and now Pirates.   I do give VCO credit they do stick to a nation for a good while and not jump when shit hits the fan.

Pirates and other non-zerg nations are really in untenable positions with this new front lines system.  Freeports within 15-20min sails from their capitals and crafting hubs.  Ability to pull missions from those freetowns despite having no actual connecting points to that nation.  Weird shit like the Santa Marta pull.  At least with the smaller BR ports the port battle itself was the equalizer.  Now....not so much.  RVR is honestly so F'd up right now it's amazing that we still consistent numbers above 1000 players daily.

After VCO decided not to show up for the defence of Remedios rumor is they now chickened out of the Nuevitas PB and made a deal with WO which allows them to save their scalps from any further rvr engagements with WO for the time being.

Whats funny about Nuevitas is that the Dutch would've had an impossible time sailing the Old Bahama Channel without getting screened out. Then they would have to win one of the most difficult ports in the game in a PB if they didn't get screened. VCO was so worried despite all this they decided to peace out.

Actually the wind was blowing directly into the port for the battle, which would have made it extremely difficult to defend.  Also the pirate screening fleet consisted of nothing heavier than wasas (and not many of those), thus making a stack of 25 1st rates more or less immune from screening if the PB fleet didn't come out to tag you.  Could have been a possibility.  Nuevitas is a tough port to take, but the wind can also make it a very difficult port to defend.

Also I heard it was decided that since the other pirate crafting port was taken the day before and the risk of pirates losing a 2nd one in 2 days was deemed not worth the hassle.

The clan that started this drama lost it's crafting port and will probably lose some more before all is said and done.  They also had their clan bank "looted" (by whom is still a mystery...), their fearless leader jumped ship and hartz is having a mental breakdown somewhere.   Drama over for now

  4. In before the “outlaw battles were abused” comment.

We have shifted the game towards a more clan centric game and the consequences of this is now inter nation feuds and the inability to combat this.  Either ditch the clan ports mindset and bring back the large nation design or give nations the ability to solve their problems internally.  Right now we have a mix of both systems and it’s doing the game more harm than good

We made it perfectly clear that we would defend rio hostility and don’t forget that black started setting hostility at pap before we responded up on the east coast. Their hostility mission was the first real rvr action. Before that it was king/hartz/radius global pvp extravaganza.

Technically you were jumping missions the night before also.  If we’re being accurate.  🙂

EDIT: ALSO I have used the pirates mechanic to join against other pirates WITH THE INTENT TO KILL. In fact we all died trying.

    That you did.

As with the hostility joining to spawn ships currently in tribunal, the intent needs to clearly be defined as    "you join a battle to fight, not to grief"  anything beyond that should be tribunal worthy.  That is of course if @Ink gets around to answering tribunals...which has not been getting done.

We didn't have global server, but 2 regional servers and we both know that. That was US server called Global and EU server called EU PvP.

    Where do we begin?

    1. Many players didn't receive their exp and rank on Global server during the split. Even after meeting the requirment of doing 1 battle etc. etc. and ignoring the fact that you had to take certain actions to get your rank there prior to split. Severely limits players and unfair for these that didn't know about it or came later

    2. "EU Global" Server became "EU PvP" server keeping it's entire playerbase, database and everything in tact, unchanged. That's why many players didn't move to global. Situation would have been different if EU Global became the actual "EU Global" server after the split.

    3. Clans didn't want to split. I personally have been a part of international clan and about half of the clan was EU. We did split as a clan, but later we came back together. It was really no fun playing with just half the friends, not all of them. We know for the fact that server split killed clans such as ZERG. Pretty much the most important clan in GB at the time.

Don't forget that for the first 2 months of "global" the server had timer restrictions that were the same as EU and no RVR could be done after 9PM EST, effectively killing RVR for most americans and oceanic players.

When one side complains about timers and plans to multiflip enemy nation with half the server *cough* Christendom Octaflip™ It is one cancer defending from another cancer. Good timer can counter most multiflips. We all know that multiflips are dumb and cheap way to win and get ports without fighting.

I heard that the octaflip (patent pending) was to combat a certain clan from timer dodging at 11-14 all the ports the bahamas.  Half the server is a little rich, it was only 2 nations.  You also benefited from it, which I think at the time you didn't seem too concerned about.  This was before MAGIC clans time of course.

I'm not sure 1 clan changing their port to a different time is the same as ALL the prussian ports changing.....  but OK.

    ...

Sure does seem like back in the fine woods period with no timers there was a lot more battles taking place.  Full battles with 50-100 people outside of each one screening.  Usually every day or at least a few times a week.  Now....not so much.

Refuse to fight?  FOR THE BILLION TIME I WORKED 3rd SHIFT FOR THE LAST YEAR AN HALF.  How not being in game cause of my work hours is refusing to fight?  I haven't even been an active player in that nation other than off time up till release.  Really @Christendom your so full of bullshit lies half the time it's funny.   When I was active I fought all the time, maybe not with my main but I fought.

And I was out side Rio and even assisted in sinking a Pirate the other night, so stop saying I don't fight, just cause you don't see me in the same battles as you doesn't mean I don't fight.

Draxx on the other hand, he's off RP in Writes of War and has been since before released so not even sure why your bringing his name up, even when he was active he was just a face, we did things how we wanted to and than updated to him after we flipped ports and did updates.....if he wanted to RP being the president that was all him, it wasn't like he had power to really do anything without big clans approval and actions.

    Who are you taking to?

MAGIC was out there assisting also.  Nation first!

I wont go back to US. Its a hello kittying nightmare of a nation. As someone pointed out to me I was wrong. The US had more BR at Rio seco and got slaughtered. This is a very usual outcome for the US no matter what the BR is.

I once saw them win at Truxillio against France and I was at Rhutan when we won the defense there against incompetent Brits. But those were pyrrhic victories at best.

The worse part of the US was herding sheep. You could never get them to hello kittying do anything mostly because moral was rock bottom. You need people who want to do hostility to actually be offensive.

Unfortunately when we could scrape 8-10 guys for hostility to try and evict french from a florida port only to have pirates show up into the hostility to slaughter us. And vice versa. There was a unholy alliance between those nations with only one purpose: to keep the US down and club them mercilessly.

The US anti-organizing mindset is their greatest enemy.  Now that the dopes like Draxx and Texas who refused to fight, it seems like they at least don't mind going out and trying...which is a step in the right direction.

Flinch complains about destroying the US nation, as he was part of the SALTY clan clubbing US every day outside Charleston for months. Then he moved to the US nation to save them with his buddies, all they did is start another war on the behalf of US nation, increase tensions between US and WO, cause US to lose more ports, worsen US relations with Spain and Russia (breaking US diplomatic deals) and then left the nation when it was in ruin. He joined the pirate nation that was one of the nations at war with the US at the time, because logic.

Now he's part of the MONKS/MONK/MONX, another clan that left the US nation and moved into the #2 strongest nation on the server.

To be fair he did join on the opposite side of the pirates on the east coast when they would jump the US.....and lose to VCO.  Hot Pirate on Pirate action is always fun see.

You'd think with their deep concern for the US they'd come back over here and help.....but I suspect that concern only goes so far as an open port to gank noobs out of.

Dutch did screen but the pirates STILL had superior numbers to the US and Dutch put together as far as I could tell.

Smashing the US just isn't cool anymore. VCO has been clubbing the living shit out of the US for over a year and will probably never stop jerking off about it.

The US fleet in the PB is noticeably inferior, it has Pandora, Trincos etc. They haven't managed to scrape together a ship of the line PB fleet after a month of the game being released. This is a major victory in the sense that taking candy from a baby is such a one sided affair you could call that a major victory.

My heart warms with your concern for the US nation.  We definitely need it.  I am curious though why your indignation for harming our nation didn't stop you from joining up with your new masters down in VP.  If you recall that very same clan used alts to circumvent the front line mechanics and flip the only crafting hub the US had just months ago and caused so many US players to quit or join other nations.  Your choice in allies is a bit curious.....but who am I to judge   🙂

There was also a screenshot in global last night of the US actually being over BR while the pirates were 3-400 under.  As for comp matching, it seems pretty even....maybe even slightly weighted towards the US with 2 1st rates and two 2nds.  But again.....pesky facts.

  13. I think a smarter solution be to have some sort of port improvement option where production contracts fill at a different rate for the clan that owns the port.  60% of all tar (let's use carta for example) will divert to clan owned contracts leaving 40% for public consumption within the nation.

Clans should be rewarded for holding and maintaining the port, but small frys should still be able to get their beaks wet too.

yea except the real hunters no know to void the visual effect of storms. most of the time.

If you can avoid them most of the time.....what's the problem?  I assume you weren't able to find someone in a storm on the OW.....which is something that never ever happened in the realm of sailing history.  #realism

Real storms in battle would be nice tho.
