  1. I would also not mind to redo my rank XP, but the crafting XP i would just hate to redo. But I think if we would all be starting back from midshipman, it would just be the fastest grinding nation that would be dominating the early weeks of NA. It will allready be a race for nations to get top level ships to do PB's with. In OW PvP you can manage with less, but PB's need top notch ships. Realy looking forward to release
  2. Yeah I forgot that one, true, although I kinda like accepted that as a tradeoff for not having half an enemy fleet spawn in after 4 minutes of battle. Aside of the fact you're drawing in big AI fleets in 50% of the engagements you do, the current system is actualy not that bad too. To me it could also be OK to only drag in AI in the small circle and not in the big circle.
  3. We have had the ROE changed many times, I think with first 15 minute timers, then 5 minutes timers (both giving gankers the chance to bait players, and then undock from port and join). Then we had positional reinforcements, but this would just make it easier for players to surround the enemy. Then we had the 2 minute join timer, for the last couple of months, with the drawbacks being you see your mate getting tagged, but you can never make it into the battle in time, and also people would just see someone get tagged and don't help out. Current ROE was a good idea (copy big part of OW in the battle world), more reliastic, but it insta closes and it works frustrating with the big AI's fleets running around. I do think the previous ROE with join circles was perfectly acceptable...
  4. I agree, would be unrealistic to have fortresses placed there to historicaly protect the harbour, but not have them within firing range of the objectives. But at the moment we, or at least I, haven't got a single clue as to what the objectives are. Might very well be one of them is destroying the forts (Bring on the mortar brigs!). As a side note, they might kinda have a look at how these work, cause (like all the AI in my experience) they don't mind shooting trought friendly masts/sails to hit the enemy.
  5. I like the idea of shortened travel times, but I feel like its not "extreme" enough for it to be truly offering added comfort to the playerbase. I feel just like the TP to capital atm, we should be able to TP to any free port, but only when you're in a basic cutter and with a 3hr cooldown. Free Ports are well spread, and never realy close to capitals etc. the basic cutter is enough for you to set up an outpost at the free port or at any other port closeby. This would save up on AFK sailing to an outpost, nobody will have a reason to not be at a certain area to help raise/lower hostility. We are lacking numbers atm, and the only way to "simulate" higher numbers is to make the map "feel" smaller.
  6. Pre patch I used to see single Ingermanland AI's out and about. Haven't seen one since. I think the post captain 152xp missions give you a chance for Ingermanlands as well as Indefatigable and Endymion. If you take fleet post captain missions, you spawn more ships and you have a bigger chance of getting an Ingermanland. 169xp missions used to be 3rd rate, double consti, consti/ingermanland, etc. basicaly a bit much to take on in a trinc. Don't know if they changed this since patch.
  7. Well the question specified a PvP capable ship, but I know what you are trying to say. The bahamas are indeed a good start, but I hear reports of players just seal clubbing these lower levelled players, and players just "harvesting" all the resources from the ports. These are not the kind of players you want to meet on your first days in Naval Action, the first days where you still think everybody is friendly and all gets along and we're all here to have a nice time and GG eachother at the end of a battle. Caus that dream will be shattered prety much from day one, by probably the saltiest and most toxic of players this server has to offer. I actualy initialy only did small battles, which I found very interesting and very spectacular in the early days. When the battles were always full, and most would sail cutters. It was a ton of fun, and I think i did this till I could sail a snow. Was great fun especialy when someone was "mad enough" to take his "big" cerberus out in a small battle. And your broadside would only scratch its paint. I would actualy recommend that instead of missions, but sadly nobody does small battles anymore so thats out of the question.
  8. In case of that shipwipe, i'm gonna play the devils advocate here, but shouldn't we wipe like all resources too? Because otherwise people will just be stacking labour hour contracts and materials until after the shipwipe, and we'll be sailing first rates again within a week. PS: Please remove if we don't want any discussions going in this section of the forum.
  9. PvP capable ships start from the Surprise and Renomee up, that will require you to have reached the rank where you can field 250 crew. That will be the Master & Commander rank or equivalent. Below that rank I would recommend using cheap ships, preferably oak, teak, mahogany or live oak (from good to best), as these are stronger wood types that will keep you alive longer. Fir and Cedar are mainly based on speed, and you'll have plenty of speed in your smaller ships, so these are not bad but should be your last choice. Tips to rank up (get XP) fast as a new player. - Use Carronades, these cannons pack a bigger punch but have less range/accuracy. The AI uses less powerfull cannon's so you have an edge over the AI. -XP is granted for Kills, Assists on kills, crew kills and hull damage. Sails damage is not effective XP wise. This is important to know where to concentrate on. -Penetration is important and depends on the angle and distance towards your oponent and the penetration value of your cannons. For maximum effect get as close as possible and fire away. -Each ship handles differently, you'll be more effective getting to know your ship and know what it can and can't and what it strenghts and weaknesses are as to jumping to different ships with different characteristics. You'll need to adjust for a while before you can use it to full effect. A skilled person in a small ship is more dangerous than a less skilled person in a big ship. -Don't waste money on golden ships if you are not confident enough to keep it afloat in combat situations. -If you ask anyone to help you do missions in your national chat, i'm sure some will be interested to help you. How long it will take you to get to Master and commander, depends on how often you play, and how much of the time you dedicate to ranking up. It will take you a couple of days, probably a couple of weeks to do so. Now do note that you can perfectly PvP against other ships when you are in a smaller ship, a couple of small ships can take on bigger ships easily as long as you know what you are doing.
  10. If this is about the proposed crafting changes (no more crafting levels, basic, common, fine, MC and exc) and the mention of a wipe in that topic. For what I have understood about that, if they remove the crafting levels they have no other choise then to wipe all ships as they can't be transfered to the new system. If you read further down the topic, the devs stated they would find a way to compensate for the lost ships. So only if they go trough with this crafting change, they will have to wipe all ships, but they will compensate them in one way or another. If this is about the wipe before release, I believe the earliest they would be able to release it is March 2017.
  11. Maybe it would be a good thing to do this, and maybe increase the production building count. Like the no cool down TP amongst outposts gave some relief, it might just do the same and not make this patch feel as uncomfortable as it does right now.
  12. I think the amount of lineships in OW pre patch may have been ahistorical, but it was in no way absurd in my opinion. Lineships are fun, but ask anyone what their favourite ship is and I think the majority will choose a 4th or 5th rate ship, and I think they made up more then 50% of the OW ships for OW PvP. I still think we need to consider the value of solo casual players, they also contribute to the OW PvP they participate in the economy etc. The more people we have in this game the better. The hardcore players can have special ships, paints, etc. something that will be much less accesable to the casual player. I think that is more fair then making high end ships and special ships something for the elite only. Otherwise I think it'll prety soon feel like you're batteling the same people over and over again.
  13. Well I don't see the added benefit of this mechanic, sure the balls on a ship were not endless, but I would assume they would be addequatly equipped with cannonballs for multiple engagements. I see no value or fun in running out of cannonballs, especialy if you don't realy run out of cannonballs but have to switch to a default ball with less damage and less penetration (don't know how this works in Potbs). I get that it might be a good thing to implement regarding the choise to take less load so you run faster, but wouldn't it be better gameplaywise to just say a higher calibre gun takes up a higher amount of cargo space (as the balls are heavier). But don't relate this to a quantity of shot you have aboard. This will give you a speed/cargo benefit when running lighter calibre, beneficial for fast raiding ships.
  14. Do the craft changes and do the wipe, but don't leave the players with a basic cutter and handfull of pieces of gold. Remove ships and return them in "kits", like redeem a vic and get all the mats for a vic so you can build a new one. An ammo limit I would not be fond of, its another thing to cut the lenght of a battle, if your crew, sails or hull don't "run out" it'll be your ammo you'll be running out off. It might be realistic, but imagine being a broadside short of sinking someone and having to flee the battle to not get killed/capped yourself. Would however understand (and maybe appreciate) a limit on chain & grape like we have on double charge and double shot.
  15. The devs are very dedicated to their game, and you can clearly see that this is made out of love for the age of sail and not out of love for money, otherwise they would be spending their time developing something more "mainstream". I can understand if you've spend months and months developing a game, are occupied by it 24/7 I understand someone talking this negative nonsence about your game is like someone talking negative about your child, you just have to respond. This Ant guy sounds like one of these conspiricy people, i'm speaking the truth, but "they" don't want the truth out here, they "pay" people to tell you guys its not the truth, what you read out there "in the media" are all lies payed for by "them". Its just sad. The pure core mechanics of this game are so good, that regardless of how the game is fine tuned in the future, it will give a good amount of playtime to any player. And I think that if the devs do a "free weekend" at the right time, you'll be pulling in all these people who are doubting this game because of that review.
  16. If the devs stick to plan, the release might be possible starting from march 2017. I don't think we'll ever see a wipe before release.
  17. At the moment it kinda feels like you're doing a ton of effort, and the only time it'll ever pay off is when you can craft a top notch 4th or 1st rate with the best regional bonus in the best wood types, all the other stuff you'll craft will be worse then the stuff you allready have.
  18. Thats exactly why we'll need costum ship names in this game, "Oh no, its captain Fluffy Fishy with his ship called "The Anvil, they say the hull is so strong they can forge iron on it.... *turns around live oak vic and "speeds" off"
  19. I got a bottle of cheap champagne in the fridge to open when the patch hits, my wife thinks its for our aniversary, so if you could drop it on saturday I might get away with it...
  20. I think its kinda normal to do a wipe before release don't you think? To "even the field" a little bit. To not have people camp out each others capital in reno's and rattles from day one? If you just take your cutter and cap a bigger ship each time till you get a conni or inger. Then you can basicaly do some PvP or do some fleet missions to get some money. It shouldn't be too longe till you have a nice amount of money together. Especialy if you can craft and sell your ships to the numberous new players. Besides I don't think the devs will give the "old guys" 0 gold and 0 ships to start with, i'm sure they'll give us some money so we can at least put some production buildings up, caus otherwise the economy will take weeks until its somewhat stabilised. Everybody will want to craft but there'll be nothing around to craft with... If you ever played DayZ you should know that its more fun getting all the stuff you want then it is to have all the stuff you wanted. I kinda like the idea of having to start back from scratch, caus now I won't make the mistakes I made when I first started the game (I think when I was a midshipman I sold some purple marines to the store). Also I wouldn't be having so much ships I don't want to sell, but I nearly never use. But I get your point, its frustrating, but it will be frustrating for everybody.
  21. 1 - The boarding mechanic is not fun - It takes you from an action packed battle with lots of variables, to a sequence that kinda breaks the immersion and is more a clicking game. 2 - The ship mods/perks - The fact you can have two identical ships one being absolute rubbish and the other top of the line is a bit odd. The differences should be closer together, with less perk stacking possible, so skill is the winning factor. 3 - PB's should also give incentive to use 2nd and 3rd rates 5th rates and 7th rates, As of now you have either all 1st rates, all 4th rates or all 6th rates. Fielding anything inbetween is like second choice, and will reduce your chances for victory.
  22. A sale would definitely draw players to this game, especialy if its "highlighted" in Steam. I think allot of people don't know about this game. You can't watch movies like Master and Commander and not want to sail a ship yourself...we should do a NA remake of M&C.
