jodgi Posted August 4, 2015 Author Share Posted August 4, 2015 Interesting. Usually you don't have to translate from Swedish to Norwegian, so we prolly call it Galeas too. The hull did remind me of the merc brig, but the rig is clearly very different. You can go to Sandefjord, Norway to see a viking longboat constructed exactly like they did back then. maturin Posted August 4, 2015 Share Posted August 4, 2015 Galeas is the English term too. The galeas evolved from Mediterranean galleys into a Baltic seagoing vessel. Looks like this one has a schooner rig and a pinky stern.
