Is it possible to play OW PVP servers solo without trading

Do you feel it's possible to be a successfull solo player in OW PVP without trading/crafting( except selling goods from captured ships to NPC)

Also what percentage do you feel is required in each of the 3 primary activities to be successful for ex

trade: 33 percent

combat 33 percent

crafting 33 percent

fishing 1 percent

Many people on PvP Global only do open world PvP / Privateering, and are eminently successful.

I think to battle you have to have gold to back you up, you are going to lose ships and buying a new ship with cannons, rig repairs, hull repairs and rum is expensive now. A mix of trade/crafting, PVE and PVP is probably best...or join a clan...

He's going to have to do the crafting and trading in the clan too. Clans are there to support but we don't just provide ship after ship with no contribution from the player. In a clan he would have to produce a shipbuilding resource or three at the very least.

There is a good guide by Koltes on the guides section for people who want to follow the hard route.  But be assured it is very possible to survive doing OW PVP only.  It just takes luck, patience and skill.   

Start small, target small, till you can get yourself established.  I prefer to stay small, it is less overall risk and pretty decent reward.

Here is a few simple tips for solo OW hunting.

-Basic cutter hunt AI trade brigs, T-Snows, and LGVs till you have enough money to build a level 1 shipyard.

-Build a Snow, Privateer, or a Lynx to hunt in (or have one built for you thus skipping the shipyard)

-Go and find a well trafficked by traders.  This means thinking like a trader yourself.  Look on the trade tool for places where iron fittings are being bought for higher prices, same for hull repairs and a few other trade tools.  

-Look at delivery missions in different regions, sometimes you will find the high value ones, a player WILL take that and thus be easy target if you know where they are coming from.   

-Patrol out of visual range of the port, so when they come out to go on their route you know where they are before they know where they are.  Give them a few minutes to get WELL out of range of the port.  Then strike.

-Take their ship and cargo, and sail to where the cargo needs to go, or back to where it came from and sell it.  Either way it is a profit.   Also place the ship on the market.   This is a good way to supplement the income.
