Port Hugging Abuse @ Free Towns

Recommended Posts

well if they cant send ships to all the free ports it will slow down the ganks and the amount of ports they can be at. If you have to sail or "transport/deliver" your ships from port to port and not insta get them there to do all the teleport ganking it will make it alot easier for people to def and respond to ganks also if they cap your ship they would then have to sail back to port to get it and the loot they took from you. This would leave all their ships and your ships open to getting taken back unless they had some other fleet to screen from them. So all in all it will add a lot more pvp to the game when they add it and will help with the prairie dogging that goes on at the ports IMO

Nope, players will just make shipyards in the freeports and build ships there. Nothing will stop it as long as they can just jump around nonstop.

The problem is players today. They are all just a bunch of try hard clones who will game any mechanics they can.

Actually we have found a point. Hostilities might be 0 around a freeport and then you can freely TP in again.

Then again, if there is no observer...

THe observer is important. There are places a basic cutter can sit and hide where they have a view of the port but anyone scanning the area cannot see them. Either that or the observers sit in a basic cutter on the edge of visible range, again, effectively invisible. They wait for the target to raise sails and move slightly away from the port, then they have their buddies exit the port and tag. There is literally no way to avoid this, and it is the only way I get ganked.

These squads run with a lynx, a rattle, and at least 2 ships equivalent to what they are hunting. They got you upwind, they got you down wind, they got you period. Voila. No skill ship farming, welcome to farmville.

If you know what is coming, why not even bother to beat the odds?

The only problem I have with such fights is the risk/reward. Fighting a trader with four warships is not taking any risks, so rewards should be extremely low. Ship and cargo is just about enough.

Jerks like that ruin every game these days and infect them just like cancer and once they kill the population they move on to thier next host.

No matter what mechanics are introduced or taken away jerks like them ruin everything.

Just because we have a large amount of toxic behavior doesnt mean I should stop sailing entirely. Tho it does mean I don't frequent free ports as much as I used to

What they need to do is make it so friends can help you.

Most fights are now one sided, for a reason. The 2 minute timer created a Ganker's paradise.

and it will stay that way so long as the majority of the people on the forums are the gankers saying that its our fault for getting ganked by this and that it doesnt need to be fixed.

It's called Nation Chat, "Help, I'm approaching Free Town ... ETA 5 minutes and I need an escort."

We even escort our allies. (Oh wait, not allowed to say that anymore with the upcoming alliances patch...)

I don't see why this is a problem that players can't resolve on their own.

If a player is free town dock camping, unless you are in a rain storm, you get to see him parked there ahead of time.

From there you can:

Sail away and call for help

Defensively tag, if you have to BR, then get into port after the battle

Tag an NPC near the port and then get into the port.

Report his position and activity so others may respond or trap him.

Tell others so he wastes his time sitting there for the next hour.

It's a sand box. We're supposed to solve our own problems first and foremost. Why do today's gamers always seem to feel they have to have the computer program solve all the puzzles for them?

It's not so much the fact that one player could be blockading a port, as it is the fact that they can tell their buddies that there are some traders in the area, and pow, 15 players teleport from 1500 miles away and pop out of port. Instead of actually taking the time to sail all the way to where the prey is, the players rely on a computer to..... solve that problem for them? Interesting isn't it?

I think that players should only be able to teleport to their nations ports, not free ports in the middle of enemy waters.

Just think how bringing back teleport cooldowns would solve this. Gosh who said this exact behavior would happen?

Hell allow you to teleport at will but not sail a ship exept from where you docked at. Allow a teleport for that once ever 2 hours.

But when you can willy nilly teleport and still make it back to do pbs this behavior will never stop.

You both forget that the ganker already has the initiative. With or without a teleport, the ganker fleet is ready.

With the zero cooldown teleport however, you can grab initiative by bringing in friends.

How can you possibly think that everywhere you go there will be fleets and fleets of enemies just waiting to "gank" you?? If there were more limitations on teleports, there would be far less danger of being attacked in friendly waters.

I don't mind the idea of a whole squadron attacking one player. I DO disagree if the attack was made possible by teleporting into some magic "free town" from thousands of miles away, just to sink a few traders.

Instant teleporting, teleporting to free towns, and defensive tagging are what is making pvp unbearable.

I am with you on TP cool down.. 4 hours was a bit nuts.. 15-20 mins would still solve most if not all the issues... plus the tears would be Epic
