XP reward for REAL Piracy

Recommended Posts

Me got to thinking.

I spend most of me game time in enemy waters plundering trader ships gaining next to no XP.  Some of me clannies who spend most of their game time farming fleets are gaining rank and XP at a crazy fast rate.

I get my enjoyment from this game Pirating like a pirate should. 90% of the time I am playing cat and mouse with ye enemy players who try to capture or sink me whilst I try to do the same with their traders.

I make OK gold from me plunder, but not even close to what some of me clannies make farming PVE fleets. Don't worry, I abuse them daily for their carebare ways!! YARR!   The temptation to give up me pirate ways and join em in their PVE adventures is high, some would chose this path vs real piracy.

This got me thinking that there should perhaps be an XP gain for stealing player loot.  Say, a % of XP vs what was stolen given the current market average.

Yes, I know this could be exploited with players working together, them sailing a fully laden trader with high value goods for the other to cap it, only to transfer the goods back at a free port, but I see this as no different to same players doing the whole damage trading nonsense.

Maybe there are some smarter people who could think of a better way? I don't think it should be the same XP rewards as generic PVP, but SOME XP would be nice.

Anyway, thoughts.

PS, try not to think of this as the victim of piracy. I know it can drum up bad feeling.

As long as it applies to all factions I don't see an issue.

I could see the traders complaining about it, especially ones not in clans who could not get an escort.

Also see a few saying it would kill the Econ of the game if traders are afraid to move items and trade.

At some point in the future trader players can request a escort from a National player and who ever excepts the mission to escort said player will be teleported to that player location possibly when the trader player gets attacked or somethng.  That is the brief description that I remember the Developers talked about long ago.  It will probably be some time before that is added.

Aye all nations, no reason to restrict it to just pirates.

I don't really see how this would be a problem for traders as they really wouldn't lose anything more than they lose now.  Do you mean you think it might encourage more players to go after them if there were more bonuses?

Boarding XP & Sail damage XP would probably go along way to aiding with this, but this was apparently removed due to people sploiting it.  Again, the innocent being punished for the actions of a few scallywags!

Yeah that's what I meant.

tbh, and this is on the PvE side of this, open sea stuff could generally be more rewarding. From my PvEer point of view, missions are the way to go, which is kinda sad. While -as you also describe- the gold earned is pretty okay if i hunt on open sea, the XP are lacking. So -while i guess it´s not really the "piraty" side of things- i´d suggest to add "letter of marks", which could function as a "permanent" or "temporary" mission against a certain nation (npc) and/ or enemy traders (npc) in general, depending on what the admirality asks for. You would then gain the same "additional" XP and gold as if you take a kill mission - per battle, maybe scaled ammount depending on the BR of your prey and you. Current Killmissions could still be in place, since i see them more as a bounty mission to sink a certain ship/ arrest the captain (oooohhh^^ arrest missions: boarding necessary :D) .

I would really like this, since open world hunting is a bit more interesting and i don´t think it would really speed up the leveling in a "threatening" way, since finding the right prize (one which is worth sinking) can also take a while. It would just add the "feeling" of a bit more variation ^^

hm...should i make it´s own suggestion out of this? ^^

Totally agree Long Beard!

A PvP capture of the same ship against NPC should be more difficult and provide more XP. However equally, I also think your ship vs the opposition ship should also be a factor in the XP reward. So, you and your fast Pirate surprise capturing a player trader snow should result in a lot less XP than I you used a cutter to take the players Trader snow.

This will then balance out the reward between NPC and Player enemies and encourage skill based PvP if you want high return on XP. It will also greatly reduce the return and interest in Ganking.

What do you say to that Long Beard?

P.s Could be fun to see a snow traders armed with high level marines and other boarding upgrades when you try and capture the ship thinking they should be an easy target. :) - If you haven't raked them to death first. :)

You should avoid a certain Dutch Nation captain then :D

TBH, I really don't mind either way. Some XP is better than no XP :D

I saw you in game long beard when I was on the east coast, raiding our merchants. I myself took up the same in the gulf hunting down npc traders and im thinking of venturing down south for the dons.

Good Idea for Pirates and Privateers, that and I wish we could still cap npc warships(at least up to a surprise/reno) to use for raiding.

And traders that travel in groups instead of just a escort. Say a merchant fleet with 3 merchants and 2 escorts or 6 merchants and 4 escorts. The rare 4 merchant fleet with no escort deep in friendly or enemy territory. And a treasure fleet that is heavily protected with large armed merchants and frigates.

I'm looking at Age of Pirates Caribbean Tales and sid meirs for inspiration here.

As for the new balance system, it kinda takes away from the fun of evading frigate fleets.
