  1. well to be fair, a game like this would offer many possibilites to get variety into the mission design. exploring missions (go to a certain island and find something, find hidden spots and the like), delivery missions (a certain port wants X ammount of certain goods) , bounty (on a certain npc in a specific area) and many many more... of course most (or basically all) games are like go from A to B and klick some buttons, go back to A and get a reward... but some do it in an interesting way, and others don´t... Orders and fleet orders are great fun, i like them. But it wouldn´t hurt to have additional stuff to do, especially for people like me who bought the game on the promise that PvE will get the same attention as PvP does... don´t get me wrong, i know that the combat and pvp content had the priority and we just recently got small additions that cater to the pve department as well. i have patience, but i want to rest assured that we will see a worthwhile Pve portion in NA at some point and yes to animated boarding
  2. but not too early to be talking about "finding your identity"... especially since age of sailing seems to be very popular at moment, with quite a few games in production right now... i think it´s just fair that we brainstorm about making this awesome concept here standing out by it´s own right.. i would love to play a game like this -or better yet, exactly this^^- for years... who knows, there might be the one or the other thought that the devs can work with
  3. oh please no... if i wanted arena, i´d play Winds of Luck or WoWs .... there´s a few reasons why i spend 35€ on this instead of playing free games, one of them is the open world...
  4. if we are having a historylesson here... i´ll throw Dark Age of Camelot into play, which was for years a very successful RvR game with some PvE attached. And it worked mostly because the community was allowed to help each other out in any way possible.. people helped each other level up, supported each other even if they weren´t in the same guild etc. and of course the RvR was defining up to this date... sure, the quests were mostly not really necessary, although it was a nice addition to follow them now and then... but everyone had to follow at least the epic quest (which went through all levels, one or 2 steps every so much levels) to get the best out of their character, before he went into RvR ... And i know most players enjoyed it The game died because it largely went away from it´s path, by shifting more towards item farming (artifacts and what not) and in the same move imbalancing the RvR to ridiculous levels... and we all know that "item farming" was very soon after dominated by "Elves and Pandas" (sry, loved that, i had to copy it ) so the developer tried even harder to copy that formular... which at the end made the game horrible in it´s former strenghth, while being subpar in trying to go the typical, average MMO path ... they might have been able to find the right balance, if they just stayed on their path and just improved on that, like making the RvR even more epic than it already was, instead of forcing new elements into the game that weren´t healthy for what the game was, and what makes the classic server being played up to today (i need to guess here, but is it 15 years now?) just an additional look at older RvR games, since EvE has been mentioned enough already
  5. you´re right... we need flipper and his friends... maybe add a feature to feed them over the railing... btw, i voted no... mostly because i only PARTLY agree with nr. 1... on nr.2: i only use the teleport to hometown after a mission when i want to logg off, so i port back home... or similar situations...i would hate to lose my ship everytime i would how ever be willing to agree on the "no cargo" suggestion further down the page, since i can see the abusive potential in teleporting your cargo back and forth...although a 3 hours timer makes it less effective than one would think i guess(?) ... and number 3? Well since the ability to capture battle ships got scrapped, i don´t really care ... i´m not into capping trader ships (pure PvE player)
  6. Okay, so this was originally an answer to the "real piracy" suggestion. But since it´s kind of it´s own topic, i decided to make it it´s own suggestion. Open sea stuff could generally be more rewarding. From my PvEer point of view, missions are the way to go, which is kinda sad. Open sea hunting is my pair of shoes, but while the gold earned is pretty okay, the XP are lacking. Especially considering that finding a "worthy" prize can take some time if you´re unlucky, the time/ reward ratio can be very far below that of the missions, to a point where open sea is outright inattractive... neither xp nor loot (which seems to be very very rare anyway) are really worth the hassle. But i´d like it to be So i´d suggest to add "letter of marks", which could function as a "permanent" or "temporary" (meaning it´s active for -let´s just say- 24 real-time hours) mission against a certain nation (npc) and/ or enemy traders (npc) in general, depending on what the admirality asks for. You would then gain the same (or similar) "additional" XP and gold as if you take a kill mission - per battle, maybe a scaling ammount, depending on the BR of your prey and you. Current Killmissions could still be in place, since i see them more as a bounty mission to sink a certain ship/ arrest the captain. Which leads to another idea: Arrest missions: they would function the same way as our current missions, but a boarding would be necessary to arrest the ship´s captain or who ever is on board that the admirality has in mind. I would really like this, since open world hunting is a bit more interesting and i don´t think it would really speed up the leveling in a "threatening" way, since finding the right prize (one which is worth sinking) can also take a while. It would just add the "feeling" of a bit more variation. And that´s what the idea is about: adding a bit more variation without too much work involved (probably ), it´s not about faster ways to level. Devs could balance things accordingly...
  7. tbh, and this is on the PvE side of this, open sea stuff could generally be more rewarding. From my PvEer point of view, missions are the way to go, which is kinda sad. While -as you also describe- the gold earned is pretty okay if i hunt on open sea, the XP are lacking. So -while i guess it´s not really the "piraty" side of things- i´d suggest to add "letter of marks", which could function as a "permanent" or "temporary" mission against a certain nation (npc) and/ or enemy traders (npc) in general, depending on what the admirality asks for. You would then gain the same "additional" XP and gold as if you take a kill mission - per battle, maybe scaled ammount depending on the BR of your prey and you. Current Killmissions could still be in place, since i see them more as a bounty mission to sink a certain ship/ arrest the captain (oooohhh^^ arrest missions: boarding necessary ) . I would really like this, since open world hunting is a bit more interesting and i don´t think it would really speed up the leveling in a "threatening" way, since finding the right prize (one which is worth sinking) can also take a while. It would just add the "feeling" of a bit more variation ^^ hm...should i make it´s own suggestion out of this? ^^
  8. although i understand where you´re coming from, i must agree with some of the above: it´s just not necessary. Sure, at first you go like "wtf am i?"...but after a few days latest you´ll find out that it´s nearly impossible to get lost in this game, due to the (while huge, no doubt) rather limited area we are in. The spyglass would be great though and is more or less on it´s way... i also would like to have a ruler/ distance measuring tool, which i believe would be a rather useful addition to the compass so you could better calculate how long your ttravel goes... more accurate navgation is just not needed at moment, really not. Maybe if the devs decide to make storms actually have influence (sight hindrance aside), so they throw you off course and such things, then it might be actually a MUST to have such tools... currently you just go straight no matter what, which makes it rather clear where you´re going... the map is pretty accurate. note: dont get me wrong, i´m not against your position, i think it would be nice to have stuff like that, even more if it was needed. It´s just not important enough right now and other things clearly have more priority. It has been discussed that much already, that the devs probably know already that features like that are wanted, so i wouldn´t worry too much about a future installment... just not right now
  9. which was usually free ports if i´m not totally wrong... which again is pretty much displayed in the game... many free ports were known to be magnets for outlaws of all kinds, often including those who ran them and the markets there, if i remember my good old books right...
  10. this.... imho... all previously available missions should stay available, maybe with a BR limitation that OW npc fleet also have... or not, what ever
