  1. When I originally posted the Rattlesnake it was due to it being a unique ship that would slot in under the Surprise and it's plans were readily available. My thought was it's speed, maneuverability, and firepower would make it a very fun small ship and it also looks nice. It is a US ship but it was captured by the British and renamed HMS Cormorant until they realized they already had a ship by that name.

*edit* There is also a thought that the ship later became the French Le Tonnant 1793 as the lines are the same.

I tried to suggest some US ships because I figured that the nations such as Britain and France would have many more ships by default based on the sheer volume they had.

  2. Does availability of plans not matter? Seems many did not meet the requested requirement of plans.

I would think that would come into play perhaps as a tiebreaker if the voting is close. I know some of the posters said they could not find any plans when posting their ships. Hopefully the admin will chime in.

  3. It will appeal to a different audience as it won't be as focused on realism and will lean toward the arcade side of the spectrum. It will also only be based around team battles without the open world/mmo aspect that NA will have.

  4. I don't think we'll see it according to previous developer comments. If others wanted to use it that's up to them but I don't think it would be very practical myself. I also don't think it would be overpowered as you would have different firing ranges for each type of shot making in impossible to accurately fire a full broadside unless you are very close. Everything would have to be fired a deck at a time.

  5. Your post did spark a question for me. I really do wonder what benefit clans will have have over the solo player if any.

I know the developers have mentioned that we can join a national navy such as British or US. By doing so you have a certain quota to fullfill or orders to execute to help the cause so to speak. I wonder how many of these tasks will be done randomly with other members of the same nation instead of fighting with your specific clan only. For example, you may be called to intercept an opposing nations fleet -- the question is will you be able to group with your clan or will you be thrust in with a mixed group of other nationals to complete it?

So many things we don't know yet.

  6. Remember that for game purposes I expect the game developers won't restrict you to a specific Nations ship list. We have no idea really how realm vs realm is going to be achieved as yet.

Once we receive this explanation it will answer a lot. I'm sure some of these generic ships like the frigate (not in game currently) and the 2nd rate being asked about in Shipyard will possibly fill those gaps for nations that don't have a represented ship of a certain class.

  7. If you needed a larger US sotl than the America, which was give to the French, there is the USS Independence 1814 which saw a lot of action.

I posted it on the first page as a Razee but it was originally a ship of 90 guns http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Independence_%281814%29

Master sailmaker's plan of USS Independence

Launched on 22 June 1814 in the Boston Navy Yard, she immediately took on guns and was stationed with frigate USS Constitution to protect the approaches to Boston Harbor. Flying the broad pennant of Commodore William Bainbridge, and under command of Captain William M. Crane, she led her squadron from Boston on 3 July 1815 to deal with piratical acts of the Barbary States against American merchant commerce.

Peace had been enforced by a squadron under Stephen Decatur by the time Independence arrived in the Mediterranean. But she led an impressive show of American naval might before Barbary ports that encouraged them to keep the peace treaties concluded. Having served adequate notice of rising U.S. seapower and added to the prestige of the Navy and the Nation, Independence returned to Newport, Rhode Island on 15 November 1815. She continued to wear the pennant of Commodore Bainbridge at Boston until 29 November 1819, then was flagship of Commodore John Shaw until placed in ordinary in 1822.

  8. Rattlesnake 1780/1781

Massachusetts Privateer Ship Rattlesnake was designed by John Peck of Boston, Massachusetts, and probably built at Plymouth in 1780.1 She was very lightly built and had no wales, and was reputedly very fast. Rattlesnake appeared as a miniature frigate, with detached quarterdeck and forecastle.

    Bonhomme Richard

The first USS Bonhomme Richard, formerly Duc de Duras, was a frigate in the Continental Navy. She was originally an East Indiaman, a merchant ship built in France for the French East India Company in 1765, for service between France and the Orient. She was placed at the disposal of John Paul Jones on February 4, 1779, by King Louis XVI of France as a result of a loan to the United States by French shipping magnate, Jacques-Donatien Le Ray.
