Currently you hail a trader ship and you automatically see if they have contraband I suggest instead you receive the option of telling the trader to stop for inspection or be sent to davey jones locker.
The AI/Player can choose to keep sailing or not and risk being caught and sunk or submit to inspection. And from there you crew boards ship and for random chance find contraband you can initiate boarding combat and take the ship and contraband and prisoners.

Lets keep it simple shoot bad guy till one side is gone he sinks that is all that really matters at the end of the day stop trying to making it more complex

If this gets implemented a good cost for provisions is 50 gold per day based on the amount of crew. One bundle of food is enough to feed 50 crew for a day.
So a constitution with say 450 crew would cost 7,500 gold to sail 15 days.
Bellona 9,750
Victory 12,750
Cost can be adjusted of course

what is a pood edinorog? also I think the ship should be able to support 12 or 18lbers on the 3rd deck instead of 9lbers.

I have been debating putting carronades on the decks that have 9lbers (if you can on the 10 deck?) I wonder what the damage output would be like having 12 carronades.

While the idea is interesting,
Personally, I'm going to have to say " No " to the idea. Having such additions/limitations for Nations would handcuff a players ability to play how they would like for their chosen nation.
Ex: If a new player choose to sail under the Spanish flag, but also wants to be a Trader for that Nation. He's now a lesser Trader then any of the Nations with a +10% cargo/sale price bonus.
So in short, if he wants to be an effective trader he's now forced to a nation that has Trading bonuses?
However, your idea could work as a Nation sub-choice . Every nation would have the same bonuses in certain fields but broken down into " Career Paths "
Military Captain - +5% crew/gunnery skills (unlocks SOL's)
Trade Captain - +5% cargo hold/sale price (unlocks Merchant vessels)
So on and so fourth. This would at least allow a player to choose their Nation. And then their career path that best suits their play style.

I feel the larger cannons on the Bellona, the 32lbers get muffled out by the 24s and 12s, Also the 24s sound a lot like the 12s to me.

An increase in crew loss would mean your ship will become unplayable very shortly in a battle and I'm pretty sure nobody wan'ts that.

I remember in sea trials that the Bellona didn't heel as much as it does now, there are times where I had to reverse the rigging so i can get my broadside off in time.
