Port Battle for Santiago De Cuba!

Nice to see this battle, especially for captains who are desperately searching for some motivation to come back in game... Thanks.

Next time, can you please register too the instructions given on the Team Speak by the PB commander. This, and combat maps, are the post interesting parts of Port Battles.

    Thanks in advance! :)

Will the defending nation know that a raid has happened?

They will know it, either before the raid or during it. Otherwise, no PVP out of the raid. The will have at least 30 mins to organize the interception of raiders on their return way, and probably more.

But I wonder how a small group of players can get out of a big nation main port (in terms of tax income) without being scrapped out, losing the Indianman and all their ships.

In other terms, I wonder how the raid cannot be made for the only benefit of the big nation, which was initially the raided one.

Want to see that on YouTube...

What are your reasons? Actually i like the permit system ... its a good way to reduce some ship types and give more diversity ... prelaunch it feels everyone was sailing endy or bellona ...

Who would sail a 3rd rate instead of a bellona If Not for permit?

My reason is simple. Only Wasas, Trincomalees and DLC ships can be seen in OW. Along with Surprises in shallow water area.

Remove permits to allow diversity. Maybe rebalance of some ships will be necessary too.

  4. This was never refrained earlier in game. There is no game mechanic to stop or limit that.

Such exploits are clearly encouraged in game by (no) rules of the game and by the "jurisprudence" of this Tribunal. Precedent cases where unpunished. This strategy (losing fights against NPC) is encouraged and is a valid one in Naval Action.

Players who don't like it, as I don't, must live with it anyway or quit game. As I did.

  5. Probably because of poor rules of the game, poor protection of casual player base which pushed them out, exploits again and again, unprevented and unpunished (i.e. encouraged).

All that made the fair players go play something else, waiting with less and less hope day after day some change, and getting answered by another proposal for a new DLC...

There is so little ways to get fun here that the remaining players try "everything", in fact anything,  for getting something to do.

May be a player problem here, but I don't think so.

The RVR rules of engagement, the port bonus, game imbalance, strong factions becoming stronger just because they are strong, etc. nothing linked to any player behavior (and I am not that fan of the NN clan), just linked to game

Sooner or later PVP server will turn into mostly PVE so dont worry! :)

All players joining Russia can't be a solution. Blaming, spreading infamous comments ( @LegoLarry) or just laughing at players who seem as bad with the game as APO Burgundy seems to be, all that are simply kid behaviours.

This thread is just another warning, and a strong one, about the present unviable status of the war server.

@APO Burgundy: maybe,  it time for you to have a break in game. Or to relax and consider it as what it is: not real life.

clan harassment: For some time the FR faction has suffered a blockade of a Russian clan (NN). The latter all of former FR player organized to make a blockade of the waters FR 24h/24h in order to sink any French boat (whether it is beginner or experienced). Their persistence, their level of games (almost all admiral) prevent the FR faction from progressing, drive away the new players and worse end up sending the most experienced to other faction. The interest of the game is no longer perceptible for most players of the FR faction. This goes so far as to call into question the durability of the game where we constantly lose players. To remedy this problem it would be good:

1/ remove the BR limitation. 2/ send a warning to this clan or banish it (illegal fairplay and relentless).

Hoping to get a quick response. Greeting APO

Even if I don't like the behavior of some former French who now have the utmost pleasure in killing French players, even if I don't like previous answers by the leader of the NN clan:

    • Not all the NN clan behaves like that.
    • Not all attackers of the French faction are NN, nor even Russians.
    • This is clearly not a tribunal issue.

Yes, a real clan system would have made that quite exciting in my opinion.

May be for veterans having more than 2000 hours in game. But what are new players (real ones) answering to early invitations to join a clan: let me first discover the game!

Basing the game on clans could be even worst for player retention, in particular if content and development is denied to individual players (like today).

Lottery content (like permits and port bonus for DLC) can't be good for player retention. Grinding for lottery, and having then a bad luck may be so disappointing...

Developers should choose between rng and grinding. Remove one, at least!

There shouldn't be fast and slow woods at all. Those should be cheap and expensive (both material and labour). The cheap woods should start to rot earlier ( maybe one week for fir), the ship become shabby then. If you have a shabby ship, you have to refit it again with some mats and labour in a shipyard. The best woods will take several weeks before they start to rot.

This would make it less interesting to have 30 ships in port.

In the extrem a ship might become "very shabby" and after some time sink in port if not refitted.

Or you have to pay a maintenance fee, to prevent all your ships to sink if you disconnect from the game during several weeks for some IRL reason.

  11. And so... Let's propose "something". (May be these solutions are stupid, but construction is filled of drafts, trials, go fast and then backwards, and stupidities, such as building a pyramid in le Louvre)...

There could be a solution, to be sure that, whatever options the players take, the War server will stay out of the risk of becoming a PVE server with a single predominant nation, and some limited opposition.

A new rule could be added, but I don’t know if this would be easy to code ( @admin)

    Proposition:

If a nation becomes too strong for game balance by either of these conditions:

    • Controlling more than 30% of the ports (378 x 30 /100= 113 ports)
    • Controlling more than 30% of the county capitals (75 x 30 /100= 22 county capitals)
    • Having more than 30% of the player base simultaneously active (during a period to be defined, I don’t have the stats to make a precise proposal)

    Then

    • Clan war is possible in this single nation during a week
    • All ports of this nation can be attacked without control of the county capital first
    • Revaluation of the situation a week later.

  12. +1 :)

It shouldn't be a long development to make, exiting the game, an invitation such as: "Do you want to save your daily log?". If yes, having the log saved as a txt file, stored in a dedicated directory as yyyymmdd.log.

Players will easily store it in xls(x), rtf or doc(x) formats and rework it if necessary. Players made routines would soon be made!

  13. M'enfin...

    Bravo a tous,

T'inquiètes, il n'y a pas que les Frenchies qui se castagnent entre eux.

@DesMoines, super le descriptif de la bataille! Que du positif!  :)

It's ironic that players who don't make the kill can steal the loot from another player, but if an AI makes the kill, or the fort...you cant loot that ship.

Players who don't make the kill don't deserve the loot. If the kill is made by a bot, even from a player's fleet, the player can't have the loot, which is perfect in my opinion.

  16. Having the max BR of 20000 should be limited to a dozen of ports in the map.

We need the BR to be reduced (I don't think this is big development job)

Also, the county capital to be captured first is an error. If we want a front-war, the capturable ports should be the two or three closest ports, county capital or not (and ability to use free ports as a hostility raising base possible only if your nation has no owned port).

And as written before once more, self balancing mechanisms are an absolute necessity.

Take for example Europe Universalis 4, the game has dozens of mechanics balancing getting big and powerful fast.

    • overextension
    • aggresive expansion
    • coalitions
    • unrest/rebels/different cultures
    • corruption
    • autonomy
    • fabricating claims
    • casus belli
    • coring/claiming territory
    • war score limit (can't take everything usually)
    • peace time

  17. My Golden Rules for new players:

    • NEVER sail in under-crewed ship. It is better to sail in a fully crewed Snow than in an under crewed Mercury. An under-crew ship is just a sitting duck if some enemy enters in your fight.
    • Initially, for PVE, use cheap admiralty built ships, and prefer strong built (live oak, white oak, caguairan or sabicu), crew space. In PVE, you don't have to be fast.
    • Make some trading and passenger missions to earn money easily.
    • Focus in learning manual sailing and, when a fight is finished, use the 15 remaining minutes to practice it. Manual sailing is worth even in a basic cutter!
    • Try and learn using carronades when you are in tiny ships (from Privateer to Cerberus). This will open you some valuable choices later. Properly used, carronades are way more powerful than medium guns.
    • With a oak plantation, a coal mine, an iron mine and a forge, all level 1, you can do your guns yourself: long guns and carronades at will!

  18. This game is not designed for solo players. They can't have access to all necessary currencies of the game (reals, doublons, medals and victory marks). If they spend time in trade missions, they won't get medals and VM's. If they spend time in patrols, they'll get medals and be short of everything else. They can buy VM's at a tremendous high price, and they will never get port bonuses.

The only thing for them are DLC ships.
