  1. Arma II engine is used for training sims? That's pretty awesome, the game has a proximity voice system, hand gestures and realistic weapon handling, those features are only found on this engine. The character reset really sucks, I had a mosin nagant, a hand gun and quite a lot of ammo... Not to mention the cool face mask... Because of it I respawned along the coast, two towns away from electrovsk. Had to run it twice, since I died from bleeding at the first trial. The second time I got to electro, I had the scare of my DayZ life. I had dropped the lantern and I couldn't find it! (It is a very dark night). Then I managed to find a shotgun, some ammo and the best of it all, a head lantern! Yes, the new patch has been rolled in, it added a shotgun, I found one in elektro, those sacks that hold seeds can now be placed on your head, tried that too. I'm not sure about the berries, I haven't searched for them yet. Many new drinks were also added. Eventually hunting will be implimented, when the crafting system is a little bit better and the server optimized to handle a lot more zombies and animals. The latest patch brought many server optimizations, as I can see more zombies around, they arent as buggy as before too and the game ran a little smoother overall. The features that I'm waiting for are the ability to barricade a house and keep my stuff inside. The other feature is the vehicles, running everywhere on foot can be a little tiring Enough of this ranting!
  2. That is a really awesome feat! Outmaneuvring two battle ships and disabling them! That would make a cool movie scene, in movies like Master and Commander.
  3. I would like to see some nice lanterns being lit when it's night time. A rudder and a steering wheel that actually turn!
  4. I wouldn't worry about in-game names, as nobody can see them, only by opening the playerlist, but that does not show their position. You're lucky if only one player tried to kill you, I got pursued and killed, got surprised by another guy, while I was eating some canned spaghetti, being crouched and sitting on the corner, why would he kill me? You must own a nice rig, to run DayZ decently at default settings at 1920x1080. You should follow the fps guide anyway, it will only give you a smoother experience with higher graphical settings! Also, try to disable mouse smoothing and put the X and Y bars at the same position, it makes the mouse more bearable. I too felt that sealclubbing at first, but once you learn to keep your head down, run through forests and own a gun, you're pretty much safe. Or so that's what happened to me.
  5. You did a good decision by getting the DayZ SA Now follow this guide so you can get some decent fps! The game ran in a pretty laggy fashion in my GTX 650, I7 920 1920x1080 main monitor, 1600x900 secondary monitor. I game on the main one only. The steps are simple and the experience will be much better, the only problem is that the trees might look a little ugly, blame the unoptimized engine! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=216291078#213817 My steam id is is my forum handle, Oneironz. If you would like to play with another noob just hit me up! One last thing, there aren't that many zombies in Chernarus, just keep an axe with you to be safe Have fun!
  6. Looks like Brigand will have his favourite ship in-game, hooray!
  7. Hehe thats right Cjflint! Regarding DayZ, I wouldn't buy the old dayz, get the standalone instead, sure it is early alpha, but it's worth the money. I bought it myself yesterday and been having a blast! There are some bugs here and there, but the game is playable, very playable for an early alpha. Don't mind all the warnings about bugs whatsoever, it ain't THAT buggy. Another thing, if you buy the game now, you'll have access to future updates for free, not having to pay an higher price later. DayZ mod is the old DayZ, standalone is the thing!
  8. Indeed! Something close to Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag! With the water rolling down the deck and water jumping everywhere!
  9. I agree with you, having more camera view options would be very cool. I have tried to play EIC once, but the game was completely glitched out, so I gave no more thoughts on it.
  10. I always wondered where the hell was that ship... Afterall it wasn't implimented into the game... I would like very much to see this ship in-game aswell!

    POTBS

Oh, you got me xD I was trying to be reasonable with advertising, almost felt bad for talking about Hearts of Oak here That's nice to know!

    POTBS

I used to hang out over Pirate Ahoy forums last june, to try out all the modded games. I could promote Naval Action, perharps keep an updated thread if you think it would help

    POTBS

Heh, that was what I was looking for indeed! Nice buddy! So Cjflint, as you can see, the ships behave way more realistically than any other game we've seen so far. Not sure about Naval Action since I haven't tested it nor watched a gameplay video.

    POTBS

I saw two videos about Hearts of Oak, they showed the ship's reaction to wind, and the ship actually went backwards upwind! I tried to find it, but with no sucess :/

    POTBS

Hey Plerrick, that text was lovely :') I too should have let my account die with FLS, but I made myself even more sad, with false hopes of a good Potbs in the future. The age of Potbs (2008-2014) is over, there are other sailing games being developed, such as Wind of Luck, Naval Action and Hearts of Oak, from Pirates Ahoy. All these games are more recent, with more features and the world more dynamic! I really cannot wait for Naval Action
  16. That drawing conquered me so I'll give my vote You're a true artist, no kidding!
  17. I'm trully impressed aswell! I really thought that the image had came from a book! You're really passionate about that ship
  18. Yeah, I know what you're talking about, thanks for the heads up!
  19. Could you share more about the place's age of sail history? You got me interested!
  20. Hmm, I see. Shame that the design came so late indeed.
  21. Hmm, the Speedy's design isn't in Potbs, the ship's timeframe reaches the 1800's. Potbs timeframe ends way before that, even flat decked frigates, from the Nelson era, aren't allowed in the game. Btw, the Lexington in-game has a very strange thing in my opinion, the hull is too high up on the water, it looks like a ballet dancer standing on her big toe! I don't know if it's working as intended or not, all I know is that I haven't sailed that ship for long because of that.
  22. The HMS Speedy's first image link shows a ship that makes me remember the Van Hoorn, a newbie ship in Potbs. It's a very cool model!
  23. I never played Star Trek Online but my research shows that a similar system for Naval Action could work well! Although not every ship will have its own cabin model in my opinion. It would take up a lot of developing time and artist manpower that could be better used somewhere else. I'm all for roleplaying in a good looking game like this one, cant wait for the avatar development!
  24. I agree with you! Cabin access would give such a bump in roleplay! It would be incredibly awesome if several players could meet on each others ships, for planning purposes.
  25. I would like to see D.Fernando II, a portuguese frigate that is currently fully restored and in dry dock. The frigate could employ 50 cannons, 28 in the deck and 22 on the deck. Although it never took the full load since the ship was never used in battle, mainly for cargo transport and prisioners from Portugal to India and back. Although I can't seem to find any ship plans, that's a major difficulty in getting this ship into the game :/ I would so enjoy seeing this amazing ship in-game!
