  1. If one side of a war decides to whitewash themselves, I will correct them. Aegir sounds more swedish than dutch so perhaps I listed the crimes of the wrong nation. People are painting France as being this horrible nation full of evil people. That is simply not the case. While there are some people in France who play dirty, I do not think that is the norm for the entire faction, especially since in this war a lot of things BOTH SIDES did was because the other side did it first. This created a chain reaction and turned the whole thing into a toxic slugfest.
  2. I dont think PvE provides good training for PvP. If training is your purpose, those two french did you a service. If you were in a group they could have come and helped you. As previously stated, they stopped allowing non-group members into the mission due to XP stealing and other abuses. It was stated that if someone wants to do a mission alone, then they should be allowed to challenge themselves. But as this is a PvP server enemies will still be allowed to join. Missions are content generators. You created content for those 2 french players and they gladly took part in it. This was not a gank. 2 players vs 1 player is more than survivable (as you proved). You failed to have good situational awareness and therefore placed yourself in the position of facing 2 players instead of just AI. It is ok to leave instead of fighting to the death. They could have done that and killed you. But they left, most likely out of respect for your tenacity!
  3. I still wonder why the danish and swedish didnt write in no PvP as well, if thats really the case. We are all sick of fighting each other, we need a break from playing against each other, we wanna go fight other people.
  4. If we are pointing fingers here, you aint exactly white as snow yourselves. The dutch fought one of the dirtiest, most toxic wars I have EVER seen in my time playing this game. It changed the war from something enjoyable to something that made me not want to play. I stopped sailing around, sailing only as much as was necessary to stay stocked on crafting materials. Gank squads up the wazoo from Day 1. Seemingly planned exploitation of broken game mechanics that resulted in the dutch taking almost all of the south unopposed, because the timers were broken. Then the dutch wonder why the french are pissed off and refuse to accept a peace, even when they were beaten. Its because they weren't beaten. The Dutch just decided to avoid fighting. People on both sides played dirty. PEOPLE LEFT THE DUTCH because their honor wouldn't let them stay. Seriously. Enough of the trash. A peace has been made.
  5. From the looks of it you will have French assistance pushing west. Perhaps you need to consider fighting pirates as well. France, Svierge, the Dutch, and Denmark/Norway should have learned through this recent war that 2 fronts are not fun. Now, there is only 1 front for each nation.
  6. To be clear, As I see it, PvP and PvE kills by the wanna be attacker raises hostility. PvE and PvP kills by the defender lowers hostility So, in effect, if the defenders want to keep the port they are forced to show up to attempt to counteract the hostility and sink enemy player ships If everyone groups up this should provide fun PvP The only problem I see is large vs small nation, large being able to sail in 25 man fleets against a small only having 10 players in a fleet. No fun for that small nation. Lone ships getting ganked in the hostile zone are being stupid. Why the hell are you in a hostile zone without a group?
  7. As for the concerns about 0 PvP, each nation has new enemies it wants to fight. A significant portion of each nation stopped playing during the course of this war because it was pointless and they wanted to go and fight different enemies This treaty fixes that As part of the treaty there is a no PvP zone. French can't PvP in Dutch waters, no one can PvP in French waters. Not sure why the swedes and danes didnt ask for similar protection, but in either case, I am pretty sure why this zone was created. What has been happening before and during this war is unhealthy PvP. Gank squads on all sides who work around the anti ganking timers and figure out how to gank anyways. They dont go out "looking for PvP" they go out to play farmville, where lone ships are their food. If they get an equal fight, they run. If they have a slight advantage, thats not good enough, so they still run. These players do not want PvP, they want easy exceptionals. This isn't healthy PvP, because it isnt even PvP. It discourages people from doing anything, which discourages people from playing the game. Healthy PvP is done in the spirit of competition Each side is looking for a challenging engagement where each team can have fun and want to come back for more. Regardless of how you think people SHOULD feel, there are a lot of new and veteran players who are completely turned off by the level of immaturity and poor sportsmanship exhibited by players on all sides. This is a significant cause of player loss, as you can see by reading the steam reviews. Specific places for PvP have been declared where hopefully each side can go in search of enjoyable competition. Whether or not they are the right cities is obviously a point of debate, but they are a bit out of the way of major traffic lanes which means that whoever is in those areas actually want PvP and will provide a good fight.
  8. Well gee, is france not allowed to feel betrayed? Before the war I couldnt move in french waters without having to run from a swedish gank squad. Thats a big part in why the war started. The war is over. Both sides pissed each other off. Both sides have now kissed and made up. I wanna go explore other places not fight over the same territory again.
  9. Everyone has acceptable ping to an american server. The orient has horrible ping to Europe
  10. I honestly think that, since America is the best place for worldwide average ping, that the primary game server should be in NA. Oceana players claim 400-600+ ping on PvP1 and thats just impossible. We would lose them if we merged
  11. Criminals and smugglers DID go to a ship dealer to purchase ships. Stede Bonnet is a caribbean example off the top of my head, but most if not all major innovations in ship building design was spurred by the needs of criminal customers to Europe's shipbuilding industry. (more hold space, yet more maneuverable, faster, still low to the water, still able to access shallow inlets, and seaworthy) The British Navy especially stole some design elements from the ships that were made for these criminals.
  12. I always trade without an escort. I have only been jumped once, and that was during a game crash. I am more in favor of a system that actually makes it worthwhile for players to escort traders. Anyone who escorts me is in for a boring trip. Players are not interested in escorts. 99% of players will not respond if you need an escort. If you are one of 2 or 3 traders for a PvP clan, asking a clan member for an escort is taking away a player from PvP Most players only have 4 hrs maximum per session, with the average session being about 2 hours. You're telling me that every trader should waste another player's game session running escort missions? There is no XP reward. Traders usually cant afford to pay escorts. What the hell is the incentive? Convoy duty in real life is boring as hell (I have done it). Lets not force people to bore themselves in a game
  13. It gives traders a chance and forces the hunters to use more strategy, rather than just spawn placement. A good hunter team can get past the AI easily, true, but a good trader can use them as a distraction to perhaps buy enough time to slip away.
  14. Pirates didnt sail SOLs because they usually did not have the crew to handle such large ships AND take prizes. A frigate can handle losing a prize crew without much loss in combat ability. 74 guns is a lot of guns and requires a ton of crew. The sails require a ton of crew. All that crew needs massive amounts of provisions, and the pirates didnt exactly have royal coffers and infrastructure to lean on, and would never be able to develop such things in an area chock full of anti-pirate colonies. Even if they took land, they wouldnt be able to hold it, and the only reason why they held on to territory for a short period in the Bahamas is because it wasnt exactly worth much strategically or economically. Let us also remember that this game is BASED ON history, again, BASED ON. The US was in no rush to build 1st rates because it didnt forsee any large scale naval engagements in its future. HOWEVER, if war was to become likely with any nation, the US would have prepared for it. It is why you see the construction of SOLs around the time of the war of 1812. A need for SOLs arose because being able to defend against Britain's navy in future engagements was paramount. The USS Pennsylvania was designed in 1816, but due to tensions with the British largely coming to an end, its keel wasnt laid until 1821, and it was intermittently constructed over the course of 2 decades because there was no great need for it. IF a powerful blue water navy challenged the US, say, in 1817, the USS Pennsylvania would have been constructed, launched, and commissioned before 1820 to face the new threat. As the US had the capability to construct these ships, it just didnt because there wasnt a need for them historically, these ships can and should be usable by the US. This game is a form of ALTERNATE HISTORY, and as part of that, the US is entering wars with powerful blue water navies it would have to construct SOLs to combat. This is why I support constructing ships designed prior to 1820 in their original design configuration.
  15. I fail to see how escorts would hurt pirates, as no pirates I know hunt alone. 2 NPC ships should provide no challenge to experienced players. I like the idea of player generated escort missions....tho I think that would be hard to code and very exploitable
  16. Escort duty is usually boring because hunters will not attack a trader with an escort. I wont waste my time being an escort even if I am paid to do it, as I have rarely lost cargo trading, and I always trade without an escort. To be clear, I think having the option to have NPC escorts is a good one. We dont need bored players on escort duty.
  17. The bottle of wine I bought in Paris when I was young
  18. Did you know most age of sail patrols were lone vessels?
  19. The economy didnt change a bit when ship capture went away. All that happened is more gank squads appeared looking for lone player ships
