mhm now how to translate this into naval action? a Merchant Captain?

A Unified Model outputs "Hardcore" (Diplomatic / Strategic). Why people play introduce the "explicit/implicit" factor (i.e. thinking before doing), and give those explanations:

Scientists are explicit Explorers
•They experiment to form theories.
•They use these theories predictively to test them.
•They are methodical in their acquisition of knowledge.
•They seek to explain phenomena.

Networkers are explicit Socializers
•They find people with whom to interact.
•They make an effort to get to know their fellow players.
•They learn who and what these people know.
•They assess who’s worth hanging out with.

Hackers are implicit Explorers
•They experiment to reveal meaning.
•They have an intuitive understanding of the virtual world, with no need to test their ideas.
•They go where fancy takes them.
•They seek to discover new phenomena.

Friends are implicit Socializers
•They interact mainly with people they already know well.
•They have a deep/intimate understanding of them.
•They enjoy their company.
•They accept their little foibles...

hmm done the test a second time hmmm still not sure about the meaning

The bottom line is that the theory is self-fulfilling. If the types are used to create a game, they will appear in the game ( Player type theory: uses and abuses ).

merchant Captain/Society leader? then again for society leader you may need a little more Achiever in you.

(big spoiler)

I love that film (Blade Runner) ! There's a test, too:

(acceptable spoiler)

Search engines and recreational interest. I was at first looking for explanations about inflation control. Basically, I like this Bartle journey because it's quite funny to discover how some ideal worlds can be shaped by an ideal theory (whose principle is that it can only be applied to a virtual world where players play 'for fun'). Also I used to read a lot of sci-fi. If you liked the Bartle links, and since you played EVE, watch Blade Runner, beautiful film !

"I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe...Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate."

Explorer 67%

Socialiser 53%

Killer 53%

Achiever 23%

Hmm.... seems I'm good at getting lost in the woods and talking to rabbits but I'm a bit of an under achiever....

i actually think that you can read/interpred alot out of the 4 categories.

Explorer could not mean that you are just for discovering new island and stuff but also knowledge:

naval tactics, trying to get information about the enemy his weakpoints tactics and maybe special things

like character of the player how he reacts in diffrent enviorment(outnumbered/heavy weather/damaged ship)

that what i kinda think of explorer or better said exploiter in thsi case?

Socializer could also mean that he is able to command other players and a high percent could also mean he is mostlikely to be accepted in an comanding role.

or that he knows how to fit into a crowd/soc/company/guild

Achiever could be how succesfull he his with what he does a high % still does not mean he is the most succesfull of all but in what he is doing.

you could argue about it even how importend his position or place in combat is and how importand it is that we wants to take place in

Killer just shows how agressiv or defensiv his personality or tactics is imo

i kinda hope some of you guys who is better in english than me can make a nicer post about these 4 categories.

i think some great minds in this forum could make a nice chart list of diffrent abilitys that could fit under these 4 Types

or generally some sort of interactiv list where you can make a cross infront that you could send to somone

could be usefull if you can trust someon with an job or if he fits into a other role better

kinda like these lawfull caotic stuff from other rpg games.

maybe we can greate a version of these test that kinda fits better to naval action or age of sail games in general.

because i kinda cant read something directly out of my test result or it makes more questions than answers if i try to bring it into some sort of relation towards 18th century Navalthings

atleast i know that i am an man of reason and not really aggressiv kinda surpised about the socialpart didnt expect it to be so high..

The quizz is just a simplified version of the whole theory, which is that players progress between types following a "hero's journey", and return to the real world with more experience and knowledge. And in order to fit the theory, a game should try to make the immersion progression and the type progression coincide.

As for NA's specificity, Bartle notes that the difference between fiction in general (books, movies) and games is a level of immersion. In games, not only does the player identify with the character, but the character changes to fit the player. So I'd guess that picking historical activities, and letting players chart their own course would be enough.

Hmm.... seems I'm good at getting lost in the woods and talking to rabbits but I'm a bit of an under achiever....

Would you haul that rabbit cargo because:

  • the frenchies won't steal it
  • there's always low demand of white rabbits in the Cheshire

80% explorer, 50% killer, 40% socializer, 30% achiever

I don't seek to dominate but I enjoy the thrill of the hunt.  Should we be on disagreeable terms I will spare no effort in defending the honour and interests of my ship and her company; provoke me and I will show you the error of your ways.  However, vindictive I am not, and I will chastise friend and foe alike should we ever engage in an unchivalrous manner. ;)
