I would re-command you to add this great ship, a 20 gun Sloop of War From the great series of "Hornblower".

 

This ship is great looking and it's construction is perfect and really beautiful.

But sloop Hotspur from the novel about Horatio Hornblower is a fictional ship.

There were two real sailing warships named HMS Hotspur – a 36 gun frigate (1810-1821) and a 46 gun frigate (1828-1859).

The Hotspur might be a fictional ship, but even the replica has an interesting history.

 

Begun life as the Swedish cargo schooner Orion in the 1940s and carried timber in the Baltic. After being retired she was brought, restored, converted to a barque rigged vessel and renamed the Earl of Pembroke in honor of HMS Endeavor's original name. For the Hornblower series her hull was modified and built up to resemble a sloop of war, although since reverted to the barque appearance.

It's immediately apparent that Hotspur is standing in for something she's not. Put her next to a picture of Surprise or Hermione and you'll see what I mean.

Just a bit of FYI here for people to be aware of.

 

1.  The Hotspur was fictional, but if it was real would be classed as a Sloop-of-War.  That must NOT be confused with a sloop, a single mast, fore and aft rig used on the Cutter and Yacht in Naval Action.  A sloop-of-war was essentially a tiny frigate, 3 traditional square rigged masts.  They're just small, only 20 or so cannons, where true frigates had about 30 to 40 guns.

 

2.  Sloop-of-War "captain" is not a real captain of the rank.  He gets called that out of courtesy, but his actual rank is probably just a Leftenant.
