You think there's way more pirates than you? you are wrong, there are not. Britain is the largest faction by far player wise.

Currently on PvP 1 EU, the most populous of the servers, the Pirates are very much one of the largest factions by numbers, the second largest faction on the server by my recollection.

Too many people on these forums talk rubbish about things they don't know anything about. They complain and moan about pirates as a way of justifying to themselves about how and why they lost their ships or failed to take/hold a port..

I'm very curious to hear what you think of those who play pirates that advocate for pirate reform. There are quite a few of us as a matter of fact. If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times: currently pirates are playing far too much like a nation, and that is a problem. Don't condemn pirate in Naval Action to the same fate of mediocrity as they were in PotBS; a laughably restricted and under-powered copy of the other Nations.

Pirates need to be unique: have unique goals and unique mechanics. Otherwise, yes, you are simply "A [national], too proud to call yourself one"

Fuck me what a lonely little life you must lead to go and look up what clan i'm in ingame.

I play with FTS because i like their company and have good fun with them. At the end of the day it's a video game i'm not too bothered about pirate nations quarrels and arguments, think its pretty pathetic really, i just play to have fun and anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see that pirate nation is more like the fucking U.N Navy than looters n pillagers.

you lie to yourself mate,  you said you are not too bothered about pirate nations anymore but keep making post to try to change pirate mechanics to allow you to have your revenge and what you failed to do in game. Pirate stick together to fight against other nations because it s just commun sense. Isolated, egocentric like you want us to be and we are weak and easy to bring down but  it s beyond your understanding because you are probably too smart for that.Too bad for you that I have only  two brain cells but that s enought to see throught the  plan from a genious guy like you. like I said to your clan menbers before "When someone needs to use so many ugly words to try to push someone else down, it means that that person is weak, and lacks any real arguments." you guys never changed.

Propaganda.

That is not even backed by numbers.

The truth, hence forward known as the TURTH ( a old M&B adage ), the TURTH is that pirates make so much noise and clatter all around, attack fast and everywhere that they would seem thrice their number.

It’s all about the booty!

Pirates, all the films and the history is great but trying to get it into a balanced game is problematic.

As everyone has stated pirates are different. We shouldn’t have load of ports or be able to take ports other than our starting ports, it just wouldn’t happen, but this isn’t real life.

First off, ports seem to change hands far too frequently (there is to much focus on port battles), something needs to be addressed as a whole. Ports should have a moral level maybe and when they drop to a certain point they either flip or can be captured. Maybe a loyalty to a nation marker, home ports are totally loyal

Mechanism for this could be:

Number of different nations operating in or around the port causing havoc, plundering the ports shipping or supplying the port with much needed resources, would make the port more or less loyal to a nation trying to flip it/capture it. Resource missions for trader etc

The British capturing a port that has a high loyalty to Spain, wouldn’t stay in British hands for long, as it would flip back. Unless the British garrisoned or stationed troops there, all at a cost etc.

Ok pirates, you should be able to select the nation that you are from, British Pirate, Spanish Pirate. Most pirates were privateers for a short while and worked for a nation before going rogue.

Nations also issued letters of marque

“In the days of fighting sail, a letter of marque and reprisal was a government license authorizing a person (known as a privateer) to attack and capture enemy vessels and bring them before admiralty courts for condemnation and sale.”

That technically cleared the pirate of his crimes against that nation, and allowed him to fight and use the ports of that nation.

So I could be a British Pirate with letters of marque from the Spanish and Dutch, hassling French shipping at some of their less loyal ports (the Ports that are further away from the capital should be less loyal?)  As some nations have less ports but are closer together they would be harder to take and hold.

Flags, as a pirate I should be able to masquerade as other nations. Obviously if you are highly known by a nation this becomes more difficult. If you try to dock at a port you have been hassling, it probably won’t work. But a port that is a fair way from the capital might not have heard of the Infamous Pirate Captain, who has been terrorising the British at Haiti.

There also needs to be Spanish treasure fleets that need escorting, Silver trains that need plundering and general random Governors daughters kidnapping, maps and rum……maybe some ghost ships and strange aquatic beasts, larger waves and bigger storms…..

So when you start your infamous career as a pirate the only nations that call you a pirate are the ones that you pirate, pirate all nations and you're screwed, everyone is after you, but you are infamous!!

Brex, you covered some points of my post #25, what you wrote would work in pve i think, but in pvp imo privateers should lost their license right after commit crime against friendly nation players and may be some additional punishment , its not so realistic but will rid of trolls, if pirate want pvp do it without backstabbing, else lose license for that nation(that may be reobtained by bribing or pleasing nation) and lose smthing else too(as i proposed in my post its rep or rank exp). What you described is change to pirates but it gives them too much versatility without equal drawbacks (ex. as british privateer you can do everything that british navy player can + you can pirate your own nation to some limit).
