  1. Another side but, a native people here in canada on the east coast called the Mi'kmaq tribe have the same flag as the Templar battle flag and have an oral tradition of meeting people with that flag and hence they adopted it, sometime before Columbus according to their timekeeping. Some people think they may have traversed North America and actually went into the pacific.. Who knows.

  2. Sadly adding loads of clutter or crew tends to tank performance, that said, how much the devs can add or want to add is kind of unknown. Unity is a good engine but you don't usually see it used in highly detailed settings like cry engine or other top of the line ones can do.

The same goes for damage models, they chew frame rates and require separate model variations for each ship and type of damage. A lot of work in other words.

If this was a corporation with 200 million dollars in investments (think swtor) a detailed crew and damage model would be expected and required for sure. Alas this is more of a indie style developer so anything we get related to details is a nice bonus.

  3. Not just to lock, but to move to the Sea Trials forum where threads about Sea Trials belong.

And lock to prevent the bumping we are currently doing :P Imagine when the open world starts and even more people buy and play.. I liked it when it was quiet :P

  4. What bonuses or skill would you propose the captain of the ship has, if any (eg like a skill tree... Or is that taboo?)?

It's been debated many times, along with crew bonuses etc.

One of the older threads - http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/554-officers-crew-and-their-skills/

Many smaller and newer threads contain much of the same theory crafting.

I'm still of the opinion of wait and see, it is too early to think up big systems imo.

  5. I would like there to be a dev approved custom flag system. At Decatur Armada we are currently working on some squadron flags using period American symbols and imagery, for internal use, but it would be nice to one day see them flown not as a main rear flag, but as a secondary flag, banner or streamer.

Definitely agree. It adds a nice personal touch to ships and shows off your guild/fleet/clans colours, as long as they are period friendly and not outlandish of course.

  6. It will appeal to a different audience as it won't be as focused on realism and will lean toward the arcade side of the spectrum. It will also only be based around team battles without the open world/mmo aspect that NA will have.

Yea, it is nice to see the Age of Sail getting lots of attention in gaming recently though.

  7. Hi all.

I find the current aiming system very easy.

I was thinking about a feature that would make it slightly more realistic/skill based/demanding.

My vision is that there would be another bar, that would move up and down as the ship lists on the waves. That would be, where the cannons are actually aiming (think "gyro stabilisation" OFF).

The player would than fire when the two bars overlay each other, to ensure the balls land where the current aiming bar is.

Because we would need to do this for each cannon individually (as they do not shoot simultaneously), I would turn the "gyro stabilisation" ON after pressing the left mouse button (fire all loaded cannons).

    Hope that makes sense..

    Opinions?

Here is a little mockup i did (sorry, didn't have time to make a moving picture, but you get the idea).

Honestly sounds like just a mini game being added. Don't really see the need.
