  1. I think this is very interesting data. My fear is that it will continue the poor interactions recently displayed between members.

I will allow this to remain open as long as it remains civil and does not become a continuation of the farming or Carta threads or sniping between members.

I think it could and should open an interesting dialog.

There will always be sniping on the Internet. It's a guarantee when you are hiding behind a screen and reading text the way you want to see it instead of hearing it the way the speaker wants it to sound. The only work around is heavy moderation or bans until people stop but there are always new members.

  2. What of a nomination system. Sure, it can be gamed... But again, we have moderators for that.

I post lots... But in some respects "less is more".

Where manipulation is bound it happen? If there is any system is has to be unbiased as to who is getting the award or title or whatever pixels make people feel better. Otherwise some people will have pages full of stuff and others will have none despite having as many posts or ideas or whatever it is based on. Anything that alienates part of the player base or forum goer base is not really good or necessary.

Not to mention most people here HATE progression of any sort so the fact that this would gain any traction is surprising and maybe a little, well, hypo.. oh nevermind  . But then again there is crew progression but that's just hidden progression that every one said they disliked... oh nevermind.

  3. If battles take a similar amount of time as they do in combat testing (which they should), so say 15-30 minutes for a small fight or medium fight. How far could a trader get within that time, and why would it even matter if it takes longer for that trader (A-B-C route on the bottom of the map) to get to the port than it takes for the battle to be over? Let alone for other ships to leave that port and sail to said battle. If you are a proponent of no fast travel it makes it all kind of redundant.

  4. Not currently in the game and not planned last we head. Main issue is griefing and trolling, imagine a friendly who doesn't like you sitting beside you so you slow to a crawl in an important battle. Not so fun.

Well as we have seen shooting, ramming, etc is obvious. Greifing through wind shadow is much more subtle but arguably worse.

And to those saying have it only on enemy ships.. but you want realism.

  5. Is there any way I can get around this? or am I just stuck in a sinking rowboat?

Well like Admin said, the game will be optimized in the future. Whether or not that makes you get a good FPS on graphics settings that are good is another matter. Your best bet is replacing your CPU if you can afford it. Overclocking can help a little but it can't change the architecture of the chip.

  6. Having just found out about this game (and not having a good enough graphics card to play right now - my 7870 died on me). Here is what I am wondering.

    1. Fires breaking out on board ships. I am not talking directly about fire ships (although a player ship might turn into a fire ship unintentionally). When being hit by hot shell/shot etc..... there should be a small chance of it starting a fire and if not treated it could get worse and if it would get close to a magazine that it would do some serious damage and possibly sink you. The fire should have a chance to jump ship if you are grappling another ship that is on fire (not recommended). Also if the magazine goes up it should do damage to anyone close by including other grappling ships (dependent on the size of the magzine - e.g first rate ships exploding will do considerably more damage and further away than a sloop for instance). There should also be a slightly smaller chance during ship boarding if you fire that a fire can also start.

    2. Also partially connected to the other if you fire a double shot there should be a risk that it may destroy one or more of your cannons. This could also kill some crew and possibly cause a fire to start. This would give a reason to be careful when using double shot and it was not used that much in battles that I have read.

    3. Have the ability to select your captain to suit your play style. Here are some examples.

        1. Captain with  gunnery family experience - could give a small boost to cannon accuracy (due to training) and increase damage (due to making sure the ammo was correctly prepared before the battle)

        2. Captain with sailing family experience - could give a small boost to speed and turning (to increase the efficiency of the crew when sailing)

        3. Captain with cloth family experience - could give a small boost to speed and sails are stronger (due to experience in knowing how the fabric can be best utilized / getting the best materials)

        4. Captain with woodworking family experience - could give a boost to the strength of the hull and give an extra repair kit.

These are just a few ideas I came up with with watching this game to please forgive me if these have already been discussed although I did search before posting this and did not find any info. Thanks for what looks like a great game. Really looking forward to this game soon (or at least as soon as I can get a new graphics card).

    Fires are coming.

Double shot has never been discussed as possibly harmful although who knows.

Customizable crew and crew skills in a way will be coming eventually. Exactly how it will be implemented is unknown.

  7. I think shuns are a bit much. I would rather see the same as other MMO's where you can simply mute and block people if they really get on your nerves.

Some people will always troll, always try to provoke stuff, and negative reinforcement won't do anything to them. Welcome to online gaming.
