Could someone please help me work out the differences between L'Hermione, HMS Hermione and Santa Cecilia? I am having a hard time differentiating between them, my current understanding is that HMS Hermione and Santa Cecilia are the same ship but L'Hermione is different however they are both 32 gun 12 pounder frigates built around the same time. The whole thing seems a little sticky and messy for me, any explanations would be wholly appreciated, especially if they looked completely different.

L'Hermione was a French-built 12pdr frigate, and now has a modern replica under sail.  If you search here or on the internet, you will find lots of material on the recent replica, which is true to her historical appearance.  This is not yet in NA.

HMS Hermione was a British-built 12pdr frigate that mutinied and went over to Spain, who renamed her Santa Cecilia.  She was then retaken by the British and renamed again as HMS Retribution.  Possibly this will only be in the game as Santa Cecilia to distinguish from the French L'Hermione.

Both ships have similar firepower (main battery of 26x 12pdr), but the French L'Hermione is a larger ship.

Sorry i thought the reason would be obv. But the reason behind it is i want to put mods on captured ships (ofc i can do this now but its easier/safer to just build a ship with 5 duras).
Another solution would be to make all upgrades craftable as otto was saying.

Atm im not sailing captured ships I only put them in my fleet from time to time or break them up

I would think it would be obvious that if you gain a 2 dura ship through capture, the other player must necessarily lose 2 duras, which means 2nd rates also become one life ships you don't want to use mods on.

The solution here is to get rid of rare, must-have mods that are only obtainable through hours and hours of PvE grinding (I PvP only and have not obtained a yellow mod in at least 4 months).

I'm not sure I agree with going to 1 dura ships, as the original intent was for multiple duras to serve as time insurance, letting me die and get back on the sea with the same setup again without wasting a bunch of time in port. The intent was not to protect super-rare, OP modules.  This design goal has proved very sound and beneficial in game, but has been corrupted by rare modules.

Santa Cecilia is probably the best 5th rate allrounder at the moment

It is silly, in fact, and I dearly hope they don't plan on selling it as a premium in its current state as it would justify all the criticisms raised about premium ships.

-grossly over-armed and over-crewed (# of guns and men versus design), yet excellent all-around sailing performance.

-small 12pdr frigate, closer to Surprise in reality, but has hull thickness boosted beyond a 24pdr heavy frigate, which is exaggerated by well-sloped sides, and shares mast thickness with large 12pdr (Belle Poule, Essex) and standard 18pdr frigates (Frigate).  She should really fall between Surprise and Belle Poule / Frigate in most regards, but is actually better or equal to Frigate in every way except 18s (which because of inflated hull thicknesses and stacking thickness bonuses are greatly devalued).

-about the only thing to say the other side of the equation is that her gundeck carronade armament is illogically nerfed to only allow 24s, perhaps to compensate a bit for all the other nonsense.

Totally agree, revert it back especially the thickness buff.  Don't know why it was increased in the first place. Heavy 5th and 4th rates now have 113 mast thickness, almost as strong as 1st rates in the past! This is crazy!

It was based on "feedback from PvP players," but not here or in the testing forum.

Why not add Rewards + PB Bonuses

For example, sink NPC or Players(give away more points) and earn points for PB Port.

1000 extra hostility points will give attacker +2% reload

2000 extra hostility points +2% accuracy

3000 extra hostility points +2% speed

    and so on

    same for defender.

How about we not go down that rabbit hole.  People have demonstrated that they are more than willing to PvP for either aesthetic rewards, access unique (not necessarily better) ships, or even just the "national cause" (PBs). Such accelerating of advantages to victors so that losers just lose more and more is unnecessary and harmful (not to mention downright silly at a time when the game needs a serious curtailment of magic bonuses to put the focus back on player skill).

Not even sure leaderboards are necessary or helpful.  Simple vanity items like paints, pennants and such might be equally effective and promote a better community (leaderboards do not do this, IMO).

Anyways, I'd rather see the focus on hostility generation through triggering of PvP events and passive hostility generation through presence in zone (to avoid no showing).  Also raids on minor ports that if unopposed can result in hostility generation.  Not the topic, I know, but far more important and deserving of time and resources.

  6. Venera (1808) - a 48- / 56-gun frigate of the Russian Baltic Fleet

    large.jpg

    http://collections.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/81763.html

    Dimensions:

    162' 6" x 42' x 13' 2"

    Armament:

    FC / QD - 18x 6pdr gun

    Upper Deck - 30x 24pdr gun (short)

In 1810, she was converted into a 56-gun two-decker with an fully-armed spar deck.

    Armament

    Spar Deck - 28x 24pdr carronade

    Upper Deck - 28x 24pdr gun (short)

Not the most beautiful frigate (slab-sided to say the least), but nonetheless a powerful ship and representative of the Russian approach to heavy frigates.  She also had a sistership, Geroi, that wrecked in 1808.

Other players were able to join since you can join up to two minutes in a battle in the pvp event area.

Why? This is causing huge problems and turning event circle into gank fest.  If you go in as a smaller group, your only option is to stay mobile so that larger groups can't catch you or have to fight you piecemeal, but leaving the battle open means larger groups can use tacklers to pin you, then pile everyone in after (and they get to spawn right on top of the battle, so you actively encourage players to join late instead of being in the circle).  Why would you revert to this broken mechanic for PvP event? People are starting to realize what a pure numbers game the event circle is and are not showing up.

ROE should be what you see is what you get in large circle, with battles only open on disadvantaged BR side with signal perk.

The model Steel is reffering to is the one I made for personal research.

I modeled this hull using these two plans as reference. You can clearly see the difference between this and the model ingame. But dont use it as 100% reference. The bowsection still looks a bit rough and I am not 100% sure if the wale is placed correctly.

I personally wish theyd introduce Constitution like she looked at launch date. A lot more beauty in that compared to the bulky bulwarks. Less effective indeed. But prettier

There is some evidence that Constitution had quarterdeck bulwarks added during building, as seen here:

This is quite beautiful in my opinion.

  9. 1. This has amazing potential for depth in gameplay.  That is also its weakness.  A good ship-to-ship boarding game is really everything about 18th C. warfare packed into a small space.  It could easily be a full-featured tactical game on its own.

    2. Turn-based. Great!  WeGo style would be best.

    3. Separation of ships and resulting "bridges" needed.  AFAIK the separation between ships seen in movies is often related to movie-making, not reality.  Many (most?) direct boarding actions brought ships into direct contact and allowed boarding directly from one ship to another. Vertical separation of top decks could then be handled more elegantly with ropes / ladders.

    4. Complete absence of masts and rigging.  Perhaps this is related to prototype, but fighting tops were very important elements in boarding combat.  The fighting top is the "high ground" that gives huge advantages.  Ships also look deeply unsatisfying as stripped hulls.  Perhaps models with masts in place, and rigging / sails shown with transparency? Of course the big challenge would be translating battle damage into the boarding instance.

    5. Crew numbers.  Is this a resource issue or a UI issue?  If resource-based, could sprites be utilized instead to control men as a similar number of units rather than individuals?

  10. As has been pointed out, if I can put my artillery wherever without really thinking about it, then this in fact removes tactical depth from the game.  You don't really have to think about where to put your artillery to gain advantage in field of fire versus risk of being attacked directly if LOS and friendly fire is totally meaningless.  It removes artillery tactics from the game.

The infantry friendly fire / LOS issue is somewhat less troublesome as it is logical that adjacent units would be able to offer support even if the entire unit did not charge into melee.  Plus you are rewarding good tactics, not bad tactics.

So in the end why all the crying, the name calling on the forum and outside? You wanted content, we provided. No cheating, no exploiting.

you overcame, gg see you next time.

Yup, no PvP for weeks, unless you are on for port battles (and possibly only if you get in the port battle).  Design of conquest system was supposed to promote open sea PvP.

    Good job on the defense!
