  1. I am ready to run up the wall each time I hear about "meta". Can't you think for yourself? Always you need a canonized 'better-than-all' solution what all sheep are supposed to have.

If all wood reconsidering in stats have the ultimate aim to destroy any "meta" but offer many valuable combinations, I think the purpose of this revolution is met!

    Death to the 'meta'!

I dont intend to be disrespectful, but frankly, its silly to say PVP players should be fine with losing their best ships when our builds actually matter.

Players do not all share the same skill. Also not on PvE server. So it's also silly to claim woods don't matter on PvE. And what if I chose to fight 2, 3, x NPC? What if I chose to fight elite (any number again)? What if I chose to fight HomeDefenseFleet? Many options, many reasons to use quality wood of your preference. And this preference got now new choices, which I welcomed.

    PvP builds matter.

    PvE builds matter.

    We are all the same.

Port bonuses were in the game at release so no ships were made obsolete.

Port boni arrived much later on PvE peace server than on your PvP.

Also I wasn't citing what I ever said, but what I consistently read others writing with each change. Here on forum and on chat. So you should direct your reply to them who deplored their 'meta losses' and not to me.

I don't even know what will be the availability of the new wood but even if it's rare I know that the best pvp players will have it.

If nothing changes, it will be so rare that you need ages until you have gathered enough to build a ship larger than a 6th rate. No real competition for beloved seasoned woods.

But I hope the spawning will be a bit more frequent in the future.

In any case, the idea behind new woods was to give crafting a new justification opposite all that DLC redeeming. Same people who mourned over ship crafting being "useless" may call me 'brown-nosed' on global chat, but that is great and is what our (I still use our and not mine) business needed. Now devs just take the opportunity of that novelty in ship crafting business for a major overhaul of all woods.

Very unsurprising, the usual complaining started, as it always starts with things being new, like there was a wave of complaining about port boni introduction ("oh our meta ships become obsolete!"), about seasoned woods introduction ("oh our meta ships become obsolete!") or when this or that DLC ship came ("oh our meta ships become obsolete!")...

It is not like you CANT play without the best ships, it is that getting the best ships is the point. PvE server is like Pokemon game.

All I can say to this, we also have different playstyles on PvE server (something the raging bunny also does not understand). While some may strive for the best gear possible, others get their satisfaction from fighting with handicapped equipment, or simply not-so-perfect. It's the same as fighting uphill (against higher rank enemy ships) - the challenge is larger.

Also I think you premium-equipment-lovers understand the purpose of new wood criteria wrong. There will simply be MORE criteria than ever before (now repair effort differing for example), and that is fine with me.

Furthermore, the 3 year old concept of tankiness, what some conservative shipbuilders here have too much difficulty to get rid of in their heads, needed a shake-up. Think of the fun experimenting with new wood combos, until you found what suits you best. Now that is content too. What you prefer, experimenting or sitting on 3 year old dogmas?

I expect there will be no new "meta-built" everybody is asked to follow like a sheep herd, as "all others are worthless". There will be just several possible accents you chose. That's great.

More than just the simple decision tankiness or speed/maneuverability or a blend inbetween.

Who isn't yet petrified should welcome new possibilities.

And no. Existing ships are still premium, particulary as you have probably maxed port boni and the best upgrades on them.

Don't act like we have another wipe like exactly one year ago, with game release. Now that was bad (gold ships etc gone) . Nothing ever since is.

You yourself said that you are not going to change stuff the Players already have and few months later you do exactly that!!!!!

Bringing new woods is cool but if you make 90% of the ships now ingame useless it is BS!!

You are loosing players and getting more bad steam reviews and you wonder why?

Why does your ranting sound the same each time I find it? You really resemble your avatar more than is good for you...

    Pointless claims across the board.

At least few hours later you always seem to have triggered your brain again, each time. And come to other conclusions.

    absolute best ship available

That is where the interpretation (and dogma) starts.

    What is the best?

For these people you refer to it is most likely tankiness. Tankiness is teaching them the gospels of liveoak (s) / whiteoak (s).

For me, and my fighting style, there are more important aspects than being a sitting duck - slow and hard to turn - hence I despise the church of tankiness (as I call it in jest), their meta.

And new players get that hammered into their heads. Then you see them propagate same combos down to every frigate (!). I sometimes feel like exotic-weird-heretic when I talk on global in favor of teak against a stonewall of tankiness believers with their holy liveoak/whiteoak canon.

    :D

(True, I am on PvE peace server, so I can fancy my luxury wood compositions)

  8. Never understood that "all or nothing" mentality in ship crafting.

People going for max and accepting nothing below "max", calling anything different "worthless" and telling us here they need to dump everything and start from scratch because "the meta changed".

There are other builts possible. Just as good as your holy cow meta. It's just in your head, this obsession about "only my meta is true religion and burn everything else". I just have to remember my epic fights in a grey DeRuyter in caguairan/crewspace performing like a dream. According to the canon, I should have instantly sunk as it is so "worthless". But hell, I did not.

Love to see them getting disturbed in their archbishop seats :)

Naggers are going to nag, but we shipcrafters rejoice about new compositions and effects to play with.

  9. Looking forward to as much diversity as possible.

I always disliked the "meta builds" which have been preached like a religious canon for years, like "liveoak/whiteoak is the only acceptable composition" for warships and "fir/fir" for traders. We are having discussions again and again on global chat about the "perfect built" and people come up with their recipes - mainly the two mentioned.

So... I love more choices and specific effects connected with certain wood sorts, and any combo possible. Just so the cult of an absolute belief in this or that wood setup gets shattered!

Oh the fun of being heretic... :)

  10. There we go, the usual "will kill the game" doom talk...

I like the reputation idea and karma payment to fix it later. But I think pirates should be exempt from it, as it is their nature to attack anyone. So here is a great opportunity to implement something special for pirates. For that freedom of course they need to get some disadvantage elsewhere to compensate for it.

Lots of players said that they are prepared to accept the risk but I think Admin and Devs anticipate there would be huge raging controversies in the forms with players complaining about losing their resources and goods because the AI is so silly.

Solution I can think of is, when this auto trade mission is being attacked, player gets a notification and a chance to jump in and take over leader ship of that convoy trying to save it. But what to do when auto traders are running while you are yourself in battle or even not logged in? I am afraid in this case they'd be left to their own device. But then game has an excuse when people start complaining again (and when they don't?),

  12. With a mechanism which prevents bigger ships to target them at all, I guess they would not need to be taught to run away. What we definitely need is to avoid the invitation to sealclub those small fleets. They are pure frigate captain content, in my opinion. Or should be.

The 'problem' of boosted speed we already see with big HDF. So people often depend on them turning against the wind to catch them. Would be same with small HDF.

  13. The 'small' Home Defense Fleet is already in game. Cerberus, Surprise, Cerberus, Prince de Neufchatel and Requin is the composition if I recall correctly.

Don't know if same will also appear in patrol zone, I think it was announced for the future once.

No matter where, I think those small Home Defense Fleets need a condition about who is allowed to attack them, particularly when they will be carrying wooden chests (like big HDF does), which is desirable.

That requirement should be; you need to be in a frigate below certain BR for attacking them at all (or joining a fight). Why? Because with unlimited access, people will only come as usual in big ships and sealclub small HDF to their pleasure as they promise easy access to wooden chests. Technically possible as we have a BR regulation also for big HDF.

Now if you could do that only in frigates that would be much more of a challenge; second and third advantage is, lovers of 5th rates gain a new reason for sailing them, and lower rank captains get a chance to get wooden chests while they can't compete for the big HDF yet.

Is it possible someone hit the Magazine to make it boom?

Most probably lucky magazine hit. Seems they were a big party and many firing at same target. No wonder.

Where would it end with if everybody demanded 'compensations' for suffering from their own recklessness?
