  1. Unfortunately, this forum isn't used much. They all shifted over to Steam or Discord. I suppose you should ask there. As the absolute newbie not knowing what to do the best idea however would be first to sail on PvE server. Has the advantage of available global chat and help chat, so you can even ask IN GAME (how spectacular is that?!!). And you will not get frustrated so soon in first encounters at sea.

  4. Today I will have to decide if this event planning proceeds into the next phase. Prerequisites are not met. Not enough applications, 10 being the minimum, means the event will not take place, if this does not change within this day. EDIT: No last minute change. Inertia of this playerbase makes events organized for them impossible to succeed. EVENT CANCELED.

  7. I consider planning a boat race (regatta) for 7th rates in mid-october 2021. Race will start in Flatts, Bermuda, and end in Dariena. But you need to make port calls in four ports inbetween, which, as anti-cheating measure, will stay secret until the race has started. Your arrival in those places will be monitored by referee boats and you will document you made the call by a short message made in local trade chat of that port. Victory condition: First speedboat arriving in Dariena will win. Admission is one wooden chest per boat. Half of collected wooden chests will be given to winner. Some more to 2nd and 3rd winner, amount is depending on number of contestants. First step: I will collect interested players. If I fail to bring together 10 contestants, event will not happen. I will also collect volunteers who want to monitor the race as referees (in various ports), they need to be reliable for that function. Second step: When enough contestants are listed, they are asked to deliver the admission in game. After this happened, they get admitted to contest participation. We are open to add donated prizes in addition, if people want to see them given to winners. Third step: Players tell which boat they will use and show to organization a screenshot with stats. They are free to compose any 7th rate in any woods and with any upgrades and books they like. Only restriction is, it has to be a 7th rate by game definition. No gun boats or yachts (or balloons, as mentioned by High Sea Lord Raleigh). Fourth step: players from the list not following previous steps in time before event starts (time to be announced) or not showing up in starting port at proper time, or starting too early before others (observer outside will notice) will get disqualified. The race preparation ends with every participant announcing his presence in port by a message on trade chat. Fifth step: boat race starts with all listed boats present in Flatts, on signal given by referee. Sixth step: participants after the start learn of first intermediate port they have to sail to and enter, for making a trade chat message (gives a time stamp too). Seventh step: other ports will get announced which they have to visit in given order. Eighth step: as last port, Dariena will have to be reached. The time will be recorded again by trade chat message there. Ninth step: upon arrival of first three boats and not learning of any cheating evidence, those boats will be declared winners in appropriate order of arrival and receive prizes. In case cheating evidence is brought forward, the next boat in order of making port call will take over position of a disqualified participant.

  9. MDRA will be organizing the first "Macao Grand Mast-Sniping Contest" on PvE peace server. Contest will run all june, from 1st - 30th, in arranged battle instances. First prize will be a DeRuyter permit, second prize 10.000 doubloons + 30 edinorog guns, third prize 5.000 doubloons + 10 edinorog guns. Other (donated) prices may be added. Now what about conditions? (1) participants use a single ship of 5th rate (their choice which) (2) participants attack a First Rate Fleet of 10 or more ships anywhere in Open World in my presence as referee - so this means prearranging dates (3) We score all mast hits. Any masts being shot down adds 200 points extra (bowsprites don't count). (4) At the end of battle participants do a screenshot showing their score and send them to me. (5) Results will be listed during all month (june) and rating will close on june 30th. Winners declared thereafter. Battles which are not guided by referee don't count. Referee will sail a fast little boat and avoid all engagements. If another ship joins the battle the instance is void. Obviously only map regions where 1st Rate fleets are to be found can qualify where to arrange such battle. ARRANGE DATE WITH REFEREE ANYTIME BETWEEN JUNE 1 AND JUNE 30 FOR TAKING PART.   10. This is a delusion. Game-Labs cut down massively forum section about Naval Action, after which most of us moved on to crappy Steam discussion or Discord, that is why you see "most forum posts" now dealing with Dreadnoughts here. Hands down Naval Action is still the most popular game of all Game-Labs creations, I dare say without having access to numbers.
  11. Lots of worrying going on now, across the places (discord, even here in the stasis chamber). What I find most confusing is the silence of game-labs about this important fact which emerged out of thin air as surprise, while they had several months to think about how to tell the playerbase. That silence isn't exactly beneficial for pre-orders kept on Sea Legends either, after what I read on discord. At least the Ferengi here come as a Swedish company and no moneylaundering shady letterbox company on Cyprus.
  12. 'Boaty mcBoat Face' is even funny. The idea of name moderation is to prevent offensive names. Your example does not look offensive at all, it would be a Captain with sense of humor who chose that. So I think the way to go is having a prefab list of acceptable names, plus unknown new requests would be in pending status until a moderator gave green light - if devs are in generous mood. If not, names not being processible from prefab list simply would be denied. But I hope for some open, versatile naming system in the style mentioned.
  13. Sea Legends website talks about "18th century" ships. I really hope we stay with that and no ugly anomality monsters like this Pennsylviana will spoil the whole thing. Naval Action goes already to the borderlines of age of sail, I expect SL to be staying true to the century, that would have to exclude Napoleonic era ships as well, if it would be handled strictly.
  14. Since he wrote the initial post, there have been various Steam sales when all Naval Action components, main game and dlc, had been drastically reduced in price. Just needs to pay attention when they are happening. Summer, Autumn, Haloween, Winter Sales - were your opportunities. Next would be Spring Sale.
  15. A target for main guns, another target for secondary guns being assigned is essential. My first naval warfare game "Taskforce 1942" (Microprose, 1992, came on five 3,5 diskettes...) had that already.
  16. It is one of three wood sorts which were originally announced with the others, but did not make it into spawning ports. These are: moulmein teak, virginia pine, danzic fir. The few logs which could get retrieved while they were used on admiralty ships in port shops still exist, but they are not available in the pull down menu of your manufacturing shipyard. A mystery.

  18. Impressive roleplay detected. Not that I am involved in your affairs or those of my French brethren on PvP server, but I sure am going to miss this when this forum dries up like water ditches on Crimea.

If someone planned to damage game-labs by dispersing the playerbase, he could not have come up with a better idea than closing parts of this unified place, the original forum. ^^

  21. Sad. Forum is such a lively place. Steam discussions suck in comparison. I actually don't understand why studios give up their own forums and redirect travel to Steam. Less enjoyable, less practical, bad to navigate around. Trouble with attaching pictures, data..., no referencing in game to forum posts. In the sum, disadvantages everywhere. But I have seen it before. Keen Softwarehouse (Space Engineers, Medieval Engineers) let their forum die and made a readable archive out of it. Same move: to Steam, their support platform and discord instead. I think this move is costing more than it will bring (less distraction for devs?).
  22. I see this mission more like a demo (and it is pretty impressive for beginners). So... it would be a good idea to insert a 'skip mission' button and do that later when they are at least familiar with basic keys.
  23. No, at present there isn't a skip function. Some beginners seem to fail as they don't know how to steer the ship, regulate sails, shoot cannons. Or identify who is friendly and who is enemy (actually they start next to the friendly column and have to get past it to see and attack the enemy column).
  24. It's so simple. You score as many hits on hull, sails and crew as is being asked of you (there are counters, pay attention to them). As nobody is shooting at you, that should be really easy. Bring your boat into closer range to enemy line and target anyone you want. Just keep shooting. Sometime the score will be reached.
  25. None. But that was expected from the beginning. (technically a gunboat can escape heading against the wind, tested some days before)
