To be honest as well, after more than 3500 hours ingame, I would be just tired to slowly regrind everything from scratch once more. It would be the third time.

I don't mind wipes, i like when everyone starts fresh in cutters but looking at the last wipe i have my doubts NA would survive another... so many folks whining about their pixels. I can understand it is frustrating to lose progress but it's just a game and everyone starts over so i don't see a problem. If they wipe at release maybe the game will get enough new players to replace those who will quit because of the wipe... we can hope :P

I see your point and partly agree, but make it too much of a burden and nobody will bother taking ports and doing much RvR. Trading should in principle increase the income, but I am pretty sure trading will happen in capitals mostly, thus limiting options for strong economy in captured ports.

Yes, of course it needs to be balanced but it shouldn't be cheap to own ports is what im saying...

Or each captured port will be a financial burden?

Honestly i'd prefer it being a burden - otherwise you won't see any neutral ports ever again ( as far as i understood the system ). Also it prevents zerg clans from hoarding half the maps ports to some extent. But the most important is it destroys gold in the pockets of the rich / hardcore players to help the economy / inflation and even the playing field a bit compared to casuals and new players. This is why not making it a burden would be a severe mistake...

Haven't any issues with the "hardcore" aspects of the game. Had an absolute blast after the patch wipe trying to get some start-up money in a cutter, holding all of my equity in trader holds for risky runs to make a profit, spending all earnings just to be able to fit a ship or two, and now that it's all invested it's quite easy to roll out a myriad of PvP ships on demand - for self-sufficient production you just need to be 2 peeps, that's it.

But then you have the grindy crap that is passed off as being "hardcore", which is complete and utter bullcrud.

Want to RvR? PvE grind. Want ship knowledge? PvE grind. Want combat marks? PvE grind. I am fortunate in having enough spare time that I could actually do it, and I still won't because it's just so f'ing boring.

And for reasons that completely backfired, the near-infinite repair system has become way worse than the 1/1 repairs that we used to have. Trying to fix something that wasn't broken, nor did I ever see a word about how players were asking for it anywhere.

Want to fight another PvP ship? Prepare for a 1+ hour chase scene. Leaving people to only have to engage if they're at an advantage, or flee. Want to sail a different ship? Nah mate, follow the ship meta or don't even bother with it now that it's a battle between chasers, speed caps and repairs. Messed up in a fight? Just disengage for a while, repair up and rejoin. That's casual and gamey as hell if anything is, making it easy to recover from bad decisions and giving huge control for whichever (usually larger or faster) team that controls the fight for their buddies to disengage, and greatly favours idiotic tactics with ramming and PIT maneuvers. What is this, Need for Speed?

No wonder why 90% of the PvP is targeting PvE players and traders, there is no other choice,  if you sail out in a PvP fleet you're just wasting your time if looking for anything other than mission ganking and trader hunting.

Wasted too many hours sailing around trying to find a fight, and thus moved on. Don't actually expect much to change with the patch, haven't heard a single word in regards to any changes to repairs, speed caps/balancing, ROE e.t.c. Just managed to piss off the casual crowd now, and now they're gonna piss off everyone who's left with yet another 180'.

Gonna wait for Legends, tired of headbutting a brick wall.

Sad truth... if this was reddit i'd give you gold for this post. I enjoyed the game alot too after the wipe until i realized the grind you mentioned ( not the ship/cannon cost - thats managable ).

Rum (My grandpa died this year, I dug him up and poured rum on him) It didn't work...Why?

Haha, i find the magicals super glue fixed masts and endless sail repair more stupid / unrealistic even... but fair point.

2 servers should of been shut down a year ago and a solution should of been found to sustain players on one server.  Players seem to forget this is early access.  Most early access games don't have multiple testing servers (especially this size of a population).  Most early access Devs don't cater to one demographic of players who are mad because the game gets played while they are asleep.  Life goes on.

I don't get this one either... i mean it costs money to maintain servers and 3 servers aren't needed, well 2 seperate pvp servers are definitely not and with the new safe zones and the game already being focused on pve - why wouldn't they just make one server? I don't get it... is it really just because of some whiners that can't handle a online game being played when they aren't online? If i don't have time to play during the day should we add a special timer for me? Just asking...

In popular MMO games you can buy legendary weapons for cash or other currency. I have 15m gold right now and probably another 30-50m gold worth in assets. I can't find Planking books and some other skill books for myself. No one is selling them, I can't loot them in PvE because of RNG fortuna. Any advice for me? Thanks.

This is pretty much my experience, too. And then people come up giving me this "uhhh ohhh but you know good items should be rare" bullshit.

gets old pretty quick for most people

It wouldn't get old for me if i didn't have to grind pve to outfit my ship properly and could actually find other players in OW.... just saying. But yeah for the average player you're right.

Unfortunately you cannot have a game in alpha for 3 years and expect the excitement to continue.

I don't even think its so much about the excitement but replayability.... The game is great but lacking in content and the only thing making up for it and having high replayability factor is pvp. So what happens if you add no new content and make everything slower / grindier instead and make the game about pve to progress entirely? Go figure. I don't want the game to be easy mode and ships free like before wipe but there isn't only black and white.

  10. Well yeah, game lacking severely in terms of content is one of the main reasons. They added grind to "keep people busy" and in game but it backfired hard and made people quit and lose interest rather than play more. Small wrecks ( no fleet event / sealed bottles - those are rubbish ) and islands that are not on the map and can be discovered / picked up while sailing would go a long way to make OW more interesting... i think it is very important to improve the OW experience ( yes the scenery is very nice but thats about it ).

    It's not a problem.

If someone gets more and more books, then some of his books he will sell in the shop.

And other players can buy them.

At least in theory. But in reality the good books are way too rare and combine that with inflation / gold being more and more worthless have fun buying your books from other players. Even a few weeks ago when i stopped playing people didn't want to sell the upgrades and if there was one the price was ridiculous and the upgrade instantly sold. If i check in MT ( i assume its similar in other capitals ) and check the book section of the shop there is only garbage being sold. In other ports the only book being sold everywhere is the infamous "boatswain"...

Freetowns the few that will be left still won't be able to telport to so why would that change?   Now neutral towns are going to be a thing, but unlike in the past pirates now can use them. In the past ports like Pitt's which was the last Neutral town all Nationals (except pirates) could use.  My clan used it as it's base before we went Pirate when we where US.  It was great spot to raid the US.   With that though I can all ready see the great use of Neutral towns.  You go raid a port close to where you want and set it up as neutral and get folks to come trade there and well that means more targets to hunt.  You can also take important ports like Flatts in Bermuda, set up killer taxes for all nations and than just enjoy the rewards as it's the only port you can get cedar from.  Since it's neutral instead of pirates any one can use it.

It was about a suggestion from another comment...

    Random thought of the day:

All current "free ports" become permanent pirate ports. They cannot be captured. Pirates get free outposts in all of them and can teleport between them (captain only -- no ships, as usual).

    Pirates cannot capture ports.

This turns Pirates into, well, pirates. Points of threat all over the map, free outposts, but OW PvP-only.

Any current pirates who want RvR would simply join a nation. (Conversely, anyone who does not care about RvR would probably join pirates.)

I like most of what Slamz says here, only I think that a free outpost in every freetown could be excessive, why not think of choosing let´s say, 5 of them?

In every freetown is excessive indeed and 5 is not enough... it's easy really, just give them 8 but they have to pay every slot just like nationals.

All in all It looks quiet good including your addition in page 15, if you devs could make Pirates VERY HARD, WITH UNCONQUERABLE HAVENS IN CENTRAL SHALLOW WATERS AND LEVEL 1 SHIPYARDS ONLY. NO PORT CONQUEST ALLOWED EXCEPT FOR SHALLOW WATERS PORTS. If they capture bigger ships they can enter Free and Neutral towns (unless prohibited by owner clan).

This could work if we had more shallow port regions like bahamas. Also you would have to give 1-2 really good shallow ships exclusive to them or something else unless you want nobody to play pirates.
