Pirates have no 1st rates BPs, while MUST participate in conquest due to the same need for the resources. This is a bigger exploit built into the game.
Having our traders saved is the only way we could stay competitive.
You can still farm traders from other nations.

I agree 100%. The outlaw mechanic is more a negative than a positive really vs other nations... Any pirate squad could turn on you and take your ship. So this only bonus is more than justified. Pirates can't even buy SOL permits but still part of the RvR game? Kinda rubbish, don't you think? Just remove the LGV and Indiaman permits for pirates too and only give them the small traders. Nationals shouldn't be hunting pirate smugglers but fight other nations.

when i got the game i thought it would be able to play as a lone wolf pirate but that dosnt seem possible since the wipe

Yep, pirates are the hardcore choice now. Join swedes or danes... they polish each others masts with a no trader attacking truce while you get tagged by basic cutter noobs of your own "nation" on the pirate side.

more santa cecilias and blueprint unavailability... - will you guys not learn that was already a hated thing in the last iteration putting more ships in that won't make it any better... This is not a free to play game - we don't need or want 'unlock weekends/events'. We jsut wanna play a game with all its content.

So much this... i paid 40 bucks for this EA.... I'm not some free2play peasant in a rubbish pay2win game, Cosmetic ships like yacht are perfectly fine but ships that fill a special role and are also very good like santa cecilia should be available to everyone. Make it harder to get? Sure. - Make it so that you have to win some tournament or get lucky to find and cap one ( most likely from a very experienced captain )? Nope, not so much. At this point the game is grindy enough. I would at least like the possibility to build the ship you want if you work really hard for it...

  4. I still can not craft the Rattlesnake or Niagara despite being max craft level and no permit or BP available for it in admiralty store/ pirate den. As you can't buy the Rattlesnake from the NPC in ports either, this is getting mildly annoying... Please fix this. Thank you.

  5. I would even take it a step further as to where you would have to spot the other ships flag for IFF purposes, but with their name still displayed. Maybe even give pirates false flags up to a certain distance in OW ( would be a start to give them something special?! ). When they come closer than this distance they automatically hoist the jolly roger. If you know the player ( and many seasoned veterans should be known for their skill ) you obviously won't be fooled by it or recognize a fellow compatriot as you know him or have seen him before.

Probably too hardcore for most players, but i still like the idea of it.

We may very well end up with variety no matter what "rules" are put in place.

    1. Lineships will be expensive to make.

    2. They'll require a high level ship yard. Probably most crafters will put these yards near capital waters although perhaps we'll eventually have the population and wealth to build remote shipyards as the lines of conquest advance.

3, When a port battle is triggered, how many of those ports do you think will already have 25 first rates in it? No more towing to specific ports. Defenders are usually going to have to sail them in. Smart attacker will watch for this reinforcement in the day(s)/hours prior to PB and try to take some of them out. Defenders will need to guard these reinforcing slow fleets. OW PVP anyone?

Anyway I think it will be a long time before we see 25 L'Ocean v 25 L'Ocean or even 25 first rates v 25 first rates and even then it will be a much more rare happening.

Yeah, and it's awesome. A 1st rate should be a sight to behold and not "hey, yeah i got 5 of them parked in the dock, do you want one for the upcoming PB?"

  7. I'm looking for captains who enjoy the smaller ships in the game to join me and my mates. Since we enjoy sailing the smaller ships the most and low maintaining / upgrading cost making them even more attractive after the wipe, we will primarily be sailing 6th and 7th rates. We also plan on having ship and cannon production as well as a clan warehouse.

New players are very welcome and we are willing to help wherever we can. The server will be PvP Global and we will only engage in PvE when no PvP is available. The nation of our choosing was initially pirates ( since we plan on raiding traders rather than trading ourselves and the fact that pirates in the Carribean mainly used fast and small sloops ) but given the fact that the pirates in game are very handicapped and a pseudo nation at the moment, this is subject to change.

If you are interested send me a PM.

Nothing more fun than sailing anywhere in the middle of a storm without coords.

I like the idea of disabling the coords while sailing inside a storm. Having no coords at all in general and no other means of navigating while getting lost is probably only fun if you have way too much time on your hands...

  9. I can't see how this will add anything to the game besides the frustration of getting lost at sea, as OneEyedSnake described. Especially for new players who will enjoy the lengthy OW sailing sessions enough already. We don't have any navigation instruments like a sextant or an accurate star map to help navigation, either ( would be beyond cool but the time it would take for this to be implemented is probably better used on something else ).  This could be interesting, if there was actually uncharted land waiting to be discovered.

None of the above applies to Pirates who are arguably more 'crippled' than they were in the previous version. Pirates are an undercooked meal at the moment.

Now, in summary, I like in general the direction. It is however VERY DIFFERENT that what we were playing "2 months ago". Creature comforts are gone. Instanced lobbied things are gone (may appear in a whole new 'sister game').

But in all honesty 'railing' against the direction and hanckering 'for the old ways' will just be futile with the current zest the dev/admin team have for their current direction.

Over time and perhaps with balanced well worded feedback some creature comforts, changes, compromises may sneak back in.

We are still missing BIG LUMPS of the game (raids, pirate world), RvR hostility generation seems a bit wonky to me at the moment and my biggest concern is the new 'direction' may be dependant on a server population we will no longer have...and this will 'skew' what I think is a good direction. Player driven economies...need...get ready for this....players ! So for me, a big challenge for the darling Dev's is how do they get enough folks back into the sea for their vision to work.

Personally, I would give folks a $1 humble bundle type 30 day pass (STARTING IN NOT A CUTTER BUT A PROPER BOAT LIKE A SURPRISE) or some such with an option to extend at standard game cost at the end of their 30 days. With some promos. The risk with this is that there is no 'tutorials' and 'interface' that looks like my mum coded it in 1974. So this sort of promotion may need to wait till the UI uplift. However until then where will the playerbase come from. The short term/tactical/imo BAD decision to split the servers for the 'euro teatime brigade' versus the 'dirty US nighflippers' will bite us all in the bum as both servers will limp along with 300 players..undermining this GOOD and brave new direction. Instead they should have bitten off a solution to a GLOBAL GAME.

Very much this. Although i would set the test fee to 5$. #Jeheil4President  - I love the changes (!) except for pirates being a more useless pseudo nation than ever and splitting the already close to extinct playerbase into two servers for the sake of some crybabies that can't handle the game being played by other players around the globe during their respective primetime.

Pirate vs Pirate - outlaw battles. Pirates can now attack each other. The battle created by pirates vs pirates is always open and has FFA rules (free for all). You can sink anyone you see. Signalling perk does not work in the battle. Battle cannot be created in the capital protected waters. Outlaw battles do not give rewards.

Can you capture and keep another pirate captains ship? This would be the only benefit in my eyes and can't be exploited. I see alot of griefing potential in this mechanic, turning new / inexperienced captains off the game even more, should they happen to start as pirate. Also it potentially weakens the "Pirate Nation" even more, unless they finally get their unique perks/traits/features, being unable to craft lineships at the moment all while still being part of the RvR system somehow...

Ship paints can now be stored in clan warehouses.

Very nice. Any chance paints will be available via pve or pvp marks? Or unlocked with the Shipknowledge? I'd really like to see more variety, since custom ship names and flags seem out of the question... There should be a way to earn the exact paint you want for the ship you want it on, without having only the pvp gankfest Event followed by a lucky RNG roll to grind for it. Customization of ships to add character to the ship ( just like 1 dura, which also gives ships more value and character ) is what many Players want. Having 5 Surprise in a battle, while all of them look exactly the same ( even if the ship models look very detailed and awesome <3 ) is quite frankly just dull and takes away from the experience.

  13. As for the new Shipknowledge mechanics, i would really like to know which ships are required to be used / upgraded how much, in order to unlock slots for which higher tiered ships. It appears to me that currently the only way to find this out in game, is to actually grind it through. If i am forced to sail certain ships to be able to max out the upgrade Slots for my favourites, i would at least like to know how the "Unlock Tree" looks like. Any input on this is much appreciated. Thank you gentlemen.
