  1. There will never be a perfect solution to this one. With regard to above scenarios my feeling is if you are attacked by 10 ships you know what is going to happen.if you don t see them in time or cannot outrun them that is unfortunate but if one of your players has signalling perk(that works as intended) there may be a chance of help. On the flipside if I engage a trader and have checked the horizon for enemy ships before engaging and then get jumped whilst in battle there is no strategy I could employ to prevent that. I do think that if attacking within a certain radius of port the battle instance should stay open to allow for reinforcements (that is a risk the attacking player takes for attacking so close to port). I honestly cannot see a solution which would keep all players happy so we may all have to accept a compromise.
  2. Just spent half hour composing a detailed reply to this only for the whole thing to vanish.So the condensed version. I think pve and pvp can complement each other so i wouldn t like to see missions vanish entirely. I think rework the hostility rather than reintroduce the flag system. perhaps keeping hostility missions open and higher the hostility the more accurate the location of the mission is shown on the map to all players. Threre s definitely a market for cosmetic microtransactions, sails,banners,figureheads as well as paints. Let s be passionate about what we want without resorting to being impolite to each other.If everyone is talking but noone is listening then there will never be a constructive conversation. Ultimately this game will never 100% fulfill all of our desires but that doesn t make it a bad game.
  3. 1. How do I invite a certain player to duel. 2. I know you don't lose dura or officer but do you have to replace crew and damage. 3. Can you leave or surrender at any time. 4. What are the restrictions on the types of ships that can fight each other. Thanks for any help provided.

  6. I m in UK and having this issue.ping rate is sometimes 32 and sometimes 476 but on both occasions very long loading screens and ow builds almost a piece at time. Never had this issue before but will try again in morning. tried pinging up, no packets lost times min:255ms,max:331,average:295ms I m no expert but looking at others results that looks very slow. pinged google and average result was 13ms so it looks like it's just naval action ?

I think your solution to bs is probably the best but you should be able to retain your cargo.If someone has attacked, defeated, and captured you they should not be subject to revenge fleets camping outside battle screen.I have never participated in a port battle so i won t offer any opinion on that solution.
  9. Port battles : Have never taken part but these changes sound exciting. One thing i have noticed is port battles seem to have an elite flavour where any random entering is called out and flamed in chat. I think that now large clans don t buy flags there has to be some acceptance of randoms particularly if they have earned some hostility in the region. Global events: I can take them or leave them but i would reiterate what others have said, giving fancy paint, figureheads, pennants etc is great but i don t think ships or perks that cannot be obtained through normal means should be given out especially if they give significant tactical advantage. Crew damage: Look forward to testing this although i think brace should have a cooldown. Admiralty store: Again to earn currency isn t why i play and as long as the currency doesnt give access to significant tactical advantages it has no effect on how i play. ROE changes and social perk: the danger i see here is that in trying to please everyone there is a danger of pleasing no one. I like the current system as it enables me to strategically select and engage a target. Theres seem to be a lobby mentality where every fight has to be balanced, i m not criticising this view but i like to pick a fight that puts the odds in my favour( i don t use broken mechanics such as bs hiding but using numerical superiority is a fair tactic in my book). As an aside having a heat map showing player activity would help those who want to fight as well as those who don t.
  10. Thanks for the answers chaps, that has cleared up my question nicely. Just one more question as i don t want to take thread off topic. I can see that several sails are modelled (jib,main,spanker) but are the bonuses grouped into just staysail and studding sails.

  13. I would like at the end of the battle for the player that captured a ship to have the option to pass the ship and/or its cargo and upgrades to another member of his group.
  14. @Baptiste. To be honest I was only commenting on the situation as it is now involving the 2 min timer. Although I do think the larger circle and instant closing of battle that will be coming with the next patch definitely seems to have a flavour of what the op was suggesting.Regards
  15. Maybe I m speaking from inexperience but as a low level single player I like the sound of this. Most of my pve combat is in ow and I like the thought of having to make sure the horizon is clear before targetting that lonely trader. As far as missions I m hoping that small hit and run missions can be carried out by smaller groups in fast ships,even if enemy appear we use our speed to escape.if I want to avoid combat looks like there ll be delivery missions,at last a use for my fast trader.
  16. Just so i understand all missions stay open indefinitely, but if i m out on the high seas and target an npc trader or fleet that instance closes immediately.
  17. To be honest thats why i bought this game. I stumbles across some videos on you tube and i spent two weeks watching how to manual sail and various other guides. Definitely in no rush to rank up too fast, my best ship so far is a rattlesnake but i was considering a snow to get used to multi decks. So many ships too choose from .
  18. I ve been looking for a video that shows how to sail and fight in formation. Am i to presume my search goes on or are there useful elements in this video that can still be applied in the current version of the game. Also i would add my voice to those above in that i ve found both the help on these forums and the in game help to be friendly and very forthcoming.

You couldn thelp him because you were not close enough. If you d been outside port or within 2 mins sailing of him you would have been able to assist. If battles were open indefinitely then imo it would encourage only large scale battles. If I have successfully ambushed a lone trader out on the ocean with no other ship in sight then i wouldn t consider it fair if within 20 mins hes got his mates to get online, teleport to port, sail for 15 mins(which is pretty much the length of jamaica) and join battle. Takes away any sort of OW strategy. What the devs are proposing in the next patch will be interesting as it has some flavour of what has been proposed in this thread in that you have to sail in the battle screen to reach combat. As already said when you effectively have two different time speeds(OW and battle screen) there will always be compromises.
  20. A few things I would like to see. I appreciate some of these things have already been mentioned. 1. Ability to leave officer in port. When i m on a trading run i don t really need an officer with combat perks. Obviously no officer on board then no perks. 2. Storms, fog and other various weather conditions that if not sailed correctly can lead to ship damage. 3. Tied to the above some nice pointy reefs to run aground or even wreck upon. 4.When entering a port as well as the usual enter port option, have a take longboat ashore option. This takes you to port screen where you can do everything except unload,repair or change your current ship.The upside is when you leave port you don`t have the "2 mins before engaging in battle" option. When leaving port cannot use the longboat option for 2 mins. This would enable players to craft etc but their ship is still ready to defend local waters. 5. On OW voyages ships use up provisions and water, the upside is you can anchor in certain coves, beaches to replenish. Random chance of losing crew to unfriendly natives,animal attacks or disease.
