  1. Crew management, yes! It is currently sorely missing and making the game very arcade, even Pirates! had better management.
  2. Yes yes yes please, but I will go as far as adding some variance to the battles with wind being able to turn, squalls and wind dying at moments. This will add so much sailing depth into the game!
  3. I agree, if there is risk then there needs to be a reward, otherwise no reward = no risk.
  4. Don't care. Because of durability loss there is no point in these battles, last time I participated was in the Basic Cutter. Better save my ship for OW that actually matter. So a bit of a pointless option for me but if people want it, let them have it.
  5. This sounds great and the screenshots are gorgeous, can't wait! Will damage be implemented for running aground? Sailor's worst enemy is always the shore in the end
  6. Also, going the ban way is a slippery slope. What about other potential tags like these, are you gonna pre-emptively ban all those combinations?: IRA ETA UPA SALO FARC etc... there is many more that somebody will find offensive while to others it will mean nothing. Banning hardly solves anything given alo you will start seeing shit like 18, 88, 14 and more exotic derivations.
  7. I aggree on exploiters but ban the racist? Are you sure you want to go there? Because I see disrespectful talk often in national chat and sometimes it's very hard to say who is RPing vs who is just a cunt.
  8. The best way to counter such behaviour is to make fun of them. Call them self-service or any other pick from here http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/SSand laugh at them. Bonus round: http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/KKK- I especially like the "Kitty Kat Klub"

  10. Well, there goes another mechanic to distinguish the pirates - members of national navies would be fine but doing it while Pirate would mean having to endure certain risks
  11. Agree! Something I was thinking just yesterday so opened this thread in suggestions: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/12135-implement-set-of-minimum-conditions-under-which-npc-crews-will-surrender-avoiding-uselessly-protracting-fights/
  12. I agree that sending a ship to port with full cargo at a cost of minimal crew would be great. This shouldn't happen instantly but have an average time attached to it. As for having the ship lost while in transit, that would be a good thing to compensate a capture spree - you still can capture lots of vessels and if you are lucky you will have all the cargo but on a bad day you would lose some along with the crew + risk problems due to under-crewing of your own ship. I remember when playing Pirates Gold! this was an ever present trade off - keep the ship and weaken your crew? throw cargo overboard? continue privateering while undercrewed? Switch to the new ship? It worked well however we need proper crew handling for this, at least the basics of losing people to boardings and prize ships.
  13. After several battles against NPC ships in the missions I have found very irritating and unrealistic how currently the surrender works. Fundamentally most of the time the only option is to shoot the ship to pieces or kill all the crew through boarding. Even with only 1 crew member left, the NPC ships still sail and maneuver making some fights unnecessarily long. I would suggest to implement a set of conditions that would trigger the NPC surrender. These probably would be multiple ones like: NPCCrew less than 25% OR SailCondition less than 50% AND NPCCrew less than 50% of PlayerCrew (ex 25 vs 50) OR HullCondition less than 10% on at least three sides OR Un-repairable leak present etc etc Any thoughts?
  14. Hello! Preface: I am a big fan of naval combat and have some personal sailing experience although only with small yachts (sub 10mt). After some fretting (Alphas are a mixed bag) I have finally got myself Naval Action and so far, I like it very much. It's still very rough on the edges but I understand the team is small and things will need time, important part is that the center piece of it, the actual combat, feels very good, especially after the new patch. Here are few things I have thought about and think would help: 1. Rotating Compass Currently, the ship silhouette with the overlayed wind direction is not tied to your point of view. I find this a big impediment as when sailing manual sails I would like to know at a glance the wind direction relative to my course and point of view. It would be great if the compass rotated together with your point of view, allowing you to see immediately the wind direction relative to your ship course and your current general situation. I know the pennants can help here and this is how we did this when actually sailing, however this being a game, a little help would be good as sometimes telling the wind direction from them is not that straightforward. 2. Point of View After playing some battles, there is one thing that started nagging me - the point of view. A big part of navigation is observing - determining other ships speed, course and plotting your own in a way to avoid collisions and such. While the bird's eye view does help a lot especially in bigger battles, I feel like this might be taking away a big chunk of skill and the feeling of being on an actual ship instead than tele-commanding a toy. Maybe as an option for small battles first, it would be great to not have it and instead have several PoV on the ship, corresponding to crew positions. I understand that a game needs to make some compromise so what I think could work would be: Aft port & starboard, around the helm area, where the actual Captain would be Current port & starboard gun positions Fore port & starboard, this could be the chasers on bigger ships Top lookout - this would emulate having people on the lookout high in the rigging No bird's eye view For the sake of the gameplay, the switching would be instant, simply emulating the relaying of the information to the Captain by the crew members. This would add immensely to the feeling of actually commanding a ship and create an entire new layer of depth based on understanding the general tactical situation and relative position and speed of ships. 3. Sails I am fond of using the manual sails however I'm finding a major impediment to it currently. There are several pain points I would love to see added. change from digital to analogue: Having pre-set position for sails feels weird, for me it would be more natural to move the sail position on a smooth scale for fine tuning desired sail position indicator: I understand that on bigger ships the sails will take time to move to a new position however currently there is no indication of what that position would be. It would be very helpful to have an indicator so we can set the desired position precisely, without risking to move too much
  15. - proper ship naming nomenclature - more crew animations - beat to quarters - more ambient sounds in general - open/close gun ports - more varied weather conditions - sextant use - parrots for pirates
  16. Larboard to Port This actually made me look it up out of curiosity: "Formerly larboard was used instead of port. This is from Middle-English ladebord and the term lade is related to the modern load.[3] Larboard sounds similar to starboard and in 1844 the Royal Navy ordered that port be used instead.[4] Larboard continued to be used well into the 1850s by whalers. In Old English the word was bæcbord, of which cognates are used in other European languages, for example as the German backbord and the French term bâbord (derived in turn from Middle Dutch)." " Norie, John William; Hobbs, J. S. (1847) [1840]. Sailing directions for the Bay of Biscay, including the coasts of France and Spain, from Ushant to Cape Finisterre ("A new ed., rev. and considerably improved" ed.). C. Wilson. p. 1. OCLC 41208722. Retrieved 7 February 2010. An order, recently issued by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, states, that in order to prevent mistakes, which frequently occur from the similarity of the words starboard and larboard, in future, the word port is to be substituted for larboard, in all Her Majesty’s ships or vessels. " 1844 is 31 years later after the incident so it is unlikely that this particular occasion has fostered the change but rather a string of incidents spanning several years.
  17. My girlfriend plays with a laptop and sometimes while using WASD she touches the touchpad with her hand creating unintended clicks. Have you tried disabling the touchpad when an external mouse is plugged in?

    Huge FPS drop

I noticed an FPS drop so I put the shadows all on low and disabled AA and I'm back to 50 fps with all else at max.
