It does seem that naval officer promotion isn't working as intended however, some such as Nelson are actually promoting (they weren't actually promoting even though the game said they were). The hero unit is still immortal even if the game says Nelson dies, he doesn't actually die. Same goes for wounded where he actually isn't wounded.

but he's gone, not able to put on a ship so he might as well be dead.  Maybe all the promotion guys go into limbo some where that we can't see?

  2. I was noticing that all my crew which are midshipman unless I bought them as something else aren't really ranking up.  The land officers are ranking up but not my ships officers.  I'm still sitting with a bunch of midshipman after many battles.  Also your name officer that you pick dies and doesn't come back. In UG:CW you would get wounded and than come back, but never die with your main officer.

The other problem I think is that if they are ranking up they get killed right afterwards as I'm replacing them a lot too.  I been in my English play through pumping up the points for Officer XP to see if the helps along with the luck thing for them not getting killed when wounded.

So I just did a big Naval battle and it had three guys rank up at the end. I went to check those three guys and they where no longer Chip Captians of those ships. They where missing.  So I'm  thinking the reason I'm not seeing any one rank up is either they rank up when they die or the game is removing them.  I have the officer rank up perk maxed out and still sitting with Midshipman and a few sub LT's taht I bought and one LT.  Even though I keep having battles state such and such was promoted.  I also see the same officers being promoted over and over to the same rank in the same stage.

good point.. need to get it back

Bring it back in game and not hidden behind a RNG loot drop on one rare chest.

Also I know folks would prob buy a DLC trade ship if one was offered.

Fireships back in the days also didn't sail together in line with the fleet, exchanged full broadsides with the enemy and then explode with 1000 ppl on board.

Fireships are now obvious aswell because they generate 1-3 fires every broadside they receive. They are also faster than fighting ships.

You cant realy focus fireships as you might think because they will get close enough most of the time to do damage and compared to the BR they need they will do a lot of damage. Maybe this will even lead to more mixed fleets in PBs

One thing they also didn't do was put a bunch of expensive (in real life) cannons on a fireship.  So what the mod can actually do is limit the crew and cannons on a ship.  Than you know if that first rate is running 200 crew with no cannons it's a fireship.  This way the fireship can't try to rage board some one while on fire or get lit......they will be way under crew to do anything other than man the sails of that ship.

17 tons still sounds like a lot...

It still is, but the reason I showed the comparison of TNT and Black powered is the blast is not the same.  Which is why we use them in firearms/cannons and such.  With a ship it would be contained and than force out the easiest way which is up.  Some one else mention the biggest threat when a ship blew up wasn't the blast it was the debris from the blast.   Than you have multi mag ships, they won't all blow up at the same time unless the ship is just that much on fire, you would have secondary explosions.   I would say you still have crew damage, but not as much right now and soft targets like crew would get damage, that would be your sails of ships around if your at full sail you should take more damage to them.  This would push the reason to use battle sails more and more.  It drives me nuts that folks are at full sails all the time in battles.   Full sails should mean more crew (maining the sails) and sails damage than some one that is at battle sails or sails down.

HMS victory had 780 barrels of gunpowder shared between 3 magazines, one barrel weighted in at 45kg aka 35000 kg of Black Powder. If ignited it had the force equal to 47 tons of TNT.

Now this is a video of 50 tons tnt that explodes

I'm not sure where your getting your info from but the blast of black powder compared to TNT is not the same.  Also since Black Powder is actually about 3 megajoules per kilogram and TNT is 4.7 Megajoules how are you getting that less Gunpowder 38.5 tons of gunpowder would be 47 tons of TNT?   I'm actually trying to find a formula to convert and would like to see which one your using.   To me this would mean that it prob is more like 38 tons would be more like less tons of TNT than more.

Graph below is showing the pressure when equal weights are exploded as they both don't explode the same. The reason we use gunpowder is cause of it's low explosive rates and pressure so you don't blow your barrel to pieces.  Also hard to find old black powder vs modern smokeless powder rates.   I actually reload my own ammo and I'll tell you smokeless is way more powerful than old school black powder.  But as I stated above would like to see some actually formulas since I can't find anything in actual writings how to compare them.

    1512603481340.png.272bfc6f58b3b67f4e50953d90dbbb96.png

Source of above graph was from this link.  https://www.history.navy.mil/research/underwater-archaeology/sites-and-projects/ship-wrecksites/hl-hunley/black-powder-blast-effects-hunley.html  talking about the use of black powder blast with the Confederate Submarine Henley.

Blackpowder R.E (.55) Factor is half that of TNT so that means that 35 tons of Blackpowder would prob be more like 17 tons of TNT.   https://www.bits.de/NRANEU/others/amd-us-archive/fm5-250(92).pdf Chart is on 1-2.

And now I'm prob flagged by the ATF/FBI for doing that research lol

I can agree with you that ships fighting with invisible buffs is rather silly. A fir/oak ship should not fight as if it's lo/wo with fir/fir speed. I would prefer if they made AI ships even elites just real ships with actual books and upgrades and wood types, all according to their ranks. Just making elites non capturable I guess. It makes players feel cheated when they fight a ship that's super tough to sink and it turns out it was some cheap crappy build that dropped a trash upgrade.

That are remove some of the bad wood picks.  Like I got a Oak/Cedar ship, which wasn't bad stats, but it wasn't what I just fought.

I liked the concept of having them have pre-mods installed when you open the note.  That would make up for why they had boosted armor or HP's or speed even.

    This is first a game
And even if it was not - landing and invasion fleets could and did carry troops which greatly exceeded crew. Essex hull could fit a lot extra troops for a short period.

Short version: Complaint not accepted, you being in the army saw soldiers packed in planes and transport ships.

    Yes it's a game, but

Ok so the Essex is a troop transport?  Than it wouldn't have 20% marines of just the troops.  It would 20% marines of the ships crew,  cause most of those soldiers are ground/land soldiers that aree prob sea sick, throwing up and not fit for fighting on a ship.  They are packed in the hold like sardines not out manning the guns and shooting at the enemy ships.  Troop transport are also lightly armed and tend to depend on escorts to defend them.   Troop transports where easy pickings along with cargo ships if they where unprotected with little to no escorts.   Over loaded like that the ship should be sluggish and not defectively combat.  Normally to over load a ship like that you have to strip it of a lot of things too.  Even in modern day Military (which I was in the Navy)  the Navy has dedicated troop transports and landing craft.  Seems ya'll just wen the cheese route like you do with most your balance, add more stats to something to make it harder to kill.

The comment that elite NPCs can only be killed by players who have no life is very weird to be heard from you. Because this comment is not true.

This comment is out of place. Please stop thinking players are idiots, please stop treating players like imbeciles.
This is a game for intelligent human beings and every player can sink an elite NPC with proper preparation. Its not clicker heroes and we will have hard enemies. For everyone. Just like WOW.

Do you even play your own game?   I play with a clan and other folks of my nation and I hear what players are saying about Elite, AI and other things.  Along with my own experience.  Many in my clan are casual players.  There is a reason I'm still Commodore even though I had 5 Rear Admirals before the release.  I don't have the time to play 24/7 like I did before and more of a causal player that puts in a few hours every couple of days.   The feed back I get from actual players is not what your saying.   I'm sorry but it seems the feed back you get are from your elite little  buddies like Revers who have a lot of time to play. Us casuals can't spend 3-5 hours doing Privateer missions or Raids (by the way there is no way 6 players can do 6 raids without returning to port we proved you wrong cause of timers on chest).

It's poor game mechanics when my board fit SOL or 4th attacks a 5th rate and he has more marines than I do (cause of mods percentage and all AI having 20% marines).  All along while they are out DPS my ship with double shot that never runs out or something.   Than you capture the ship to find out it'''s only Teak/Fir or some crap like that and moved like it was Fir/Fir but had armor of a LO/WO ship.   All the while having faster reload and full board fit mods.......?   Call me stupid but something doesn't add up here even if it's an elite ship or normal.  You make up for poor AI mechanics by buffing them.

    19 hours ago, Never said:

Agreed that some of the bonuses on AI feel a bit overkill. But I think it's mostly about perception; players see an Ai ship called 'L'Ocean' and directly compare it their own player owned L'Ocean and expect it to be close to the same. But in every game out there all Ai is overpowered; if they weren't then they would fail to beat any players. To make the Ai more challenging it needs to outnumber the player or have more bonuses.

Most MMO's I have player the common mods where lower than players, only the boss's and elite chars where more powerful than a char.  This is fine and they are balanced for the average char, not for some one that has all the best gear and trinkets.    If a person that has a L'Ocean 3/4 Blue comes out and fights a similar L'OCean AI they should be equals for the most part.  Now take a totally decked out 5/5 Gold ship and it should be better than the AI.  Of course Elites should be up there with that gold ship, but it should have the stats of one if you capture, not a Fir/Bermuda ship that just out performed, moved and had way more HP's than you did and bounced shots all while carrying a full marine load out.   Than you get the note and open it and it's fir/Bermuda or some stupid build like that that isn't even close to what you just fought.

I would love to see an actual video of Admin doing a fight with an elite ship, Raid/Privateer and doing it with a group of actual players not devs and not any of the Elite Streamers....like an actual group of casual players that don't have all the mods and ship knowledge's unlocked on the char.

500 men on a ship that normally has a complement of around 300. I guess its obvious to assume that those are trained marines rdy to raid the port and to fight off any boarding party.

On an Essex?  Come on even you got to see that is getting to be BS, AI all ready get super board mods and full marines while we go in half handicapped (you can go board or fight fit not both).   They get boosted stats with reload and damage, why more crew now too?  That is pretty much saying instant death to players.  This is not how you make games more challenging, by boosting stats until they are retardly way to powerful.  It's very poor mechanics and you need to make your game balanced for the average players not a few elite players in game that seem to have no life.

Some of us actually like to board in fights, but these elite AI having super powerful marines and boarding mods means it's death to board even if your a fully fitted out boarder.   It shouldn't be that way.  Hard yes, but not near impossible. I had boarded elite ships with way more crew and had to abort cause my attacks other than broadside with my actual cannons was pretty much ineffective cause there FP and stats are way to powerful.  With the Indiamans and such you should be allowed to have dedicated boarders in your group to take them out instead of just sinking every thing.

  10. @DaRhoare you Dutch?  If you are than you would know why Maracabo was dropped.  Short story is clan left to go to Swede, so it and other ports where dropped so other clans can pick them up since we don't have an means to hand a port off in game to friendly clans.   Same with some other ports where dropped cause of clan leaving nation.   This has nothing to do with the patch, it's in game and prob should of asked there or in discord.   As for the rest of it yah better communication.

Oh and note the AI Neutral ports timers change every day so you can plan to attack it the next day and get folks online at that time, cause than after maintenance if can change to something else.

  11. 1 minute ago, Archaos said:

Remember as well that the chests have a timer of 2 hours, so if you do all 6 and have a long sail back to port then the first few chests will expire.

Oh didn't even think of that, I mean the repairs can be fixed by bringing a trade ship in fleet and just taking what you need into each battle but totally forgot about that timer. So only way that would work if a neutral or free town was around.

Yah I think the rewards should be worked out so that every one that finish the mission gets a chest just like how the old port battles use to be?  Or do it like Epics and have 9 chest or something in it.  Each ship has a chest or something. I hate epics cause it's 9 chest that have to be split between 6 people.  So it's not even loot for the group and you only get one epic chest that some times might have crappy loot drop.  Every one should get one silver/gold chest per ship and than at the end every one that lived gets an epic chest after battle (like old port battle chest we got).   These devs really don't know how to balance crap including loot drops.

I'll be honest i got tired of grinding cause if you grind anything a tier below you with a big ship you get next to nothing.  You fight something equal level and they have the AI so buffed it's annoying and now we have Loki drop ins.

I think the admin is saying that all the team cold take the raid mission an everybody at the end of one raid could have his personal chest O.o

He means each player takes the mission and if they have 6 players they do it 6 times so each would have their own missions.  Since you have to bring a lot of repairs and lets say each fight last 30-45 mins.  That is at least 3 hours to do 6 missions, 4.5-6 Total with sail time and if things don't go right.  Who has 6 hours that 6 folks that don't a have a life to stay on and play?  I use to back in the day and when I wasn't working but I'm not a kid any more and well I like to spend my weekends doing other things than just gaming.

Theoretically correct. If you are really having friends. Turned out my allies, primarily the biggest clan in France on PvE, are none of it but backstabbers when the opportunity arises and small clan isn't obedient. They sabotaged my calls for recapture on same afternoon, after maintenance when Carriacou had turned into neutral, so almost nobody showed up for hostility missions, and clandestinely prepared for taking port for themselves. End of friendship of course. And last thing I did was destroying my expensive whiteoak plantation so it does not fall into their hands. So much liberty I reserve to myself when treated like this.

Sounds like you need some better friends in nation, or maybe the Faction alliance system we have been asking for on WAR server would do good on the Peace server too?  That way it's not 11 nations but instead 5 factions with sub-nations that can help each other.

Honestly I found that PEACE has a very every one for them self attitude compared to War server.

Why did you destroy a plantation when any one in your nation could use it?  I mean your allowed 30 clans on your friends list....maybe folks won't be so back stabbing and come help if you didn't have this attitude?  Why should I come defend your port when your not willing to let us help  you or share?  When instead I can just wait until you loose the port and than take it myself if I have the bigger clan?

The yacht was made available for all of us who bought the game before it's Jan 2016 release.

Any one that bought it on paypal before it was released on steam. I missed this cause I went to Brazil for a job I thought was going to take a week, ended up being more than a week and I got home on the 19-20 just after it went off Paypal and than went live on steam on the 21 st.    So I think it should stay something special and not something that looses it's meaning for those that back the game before steam.

    3 hours ago, admin said:

This is actually a very popular request we get it a lot.
We decided that we might provide yacht for purchase for a limited time in a near future (subject to agreement to steam)

Yah and WoT did this and pissed off a lot of players with the pre-order tanks (I had the medium pack with the A-32).   Don't do this, leave them as special for those that backed the game pre-steam.  If your going to do so than just do some slight changes and make another ship to do it that isn't the same ship.

Hell when ya'll gave out the ships for the server down time I was kinda upset and would of been more happy with a gunboat than a yacht.  As you remember I was kinda not happy when it was mention pandora might become a DLC.  It should always stay a special ship for all the pre-release guys.   Don't make the same mistakes WoT did by makign these ships not so special for those that have them.

With that though I would so buy a Trade Ship DLC....hint hint hint hint

  15. We had a guy do it today and got it on his second try and he is an old player that just returned. I mean he was from the old days we had Durabilities on ships.   He did the board first one and beat it  leave crew on it and went to repair while it fought the second.  The key is to board the first ship with it between you and the second ship so your not beaten up to much.  Also remember to use your [...] keys for broad sides while your in boarding as you tend to kill crew while doing damage to the ships.

Like you I found it very hard to demast the ships but than I'm in the states and ping does effect my aim at times compared to when we had a server close to us.   The other thing I have been noticing that boarding AI seems to have gotten a bit more unforgiving.  Don't know if they buffed the AI fire power or just it's the fact they always have marines, but out of the tutorial you really don't want to board AI without boarding mods or a crew advantage first.

Joining any nation take into account time differences. If you join US living in Europe,  you will start your play when most of your clan mate goes to bed .

Think that's backwards, if your EU than you will be going to bed when most of the US is getting off work.  We are behind them not in front of them (I'm 5-6 hours behind Server time).   Though this is a good point, depending where OP is he might want to look at nations that has more players.  Some nations lack on the US player base and some on the EU.   For good all arounds it's the big four most mention:  Russian, Dutch, Pirates and GB.   French, Spanish and Danes tend to have mostly EU players.  Sweds is smaller but does have players in both time zones.  US is actually bigger than folks think, but it suffers from poor location on the map and leadership.

OP let us know what all your looking for, right now kinda been slow as folks are taking breaks and waiting on more update/changes and well we are getting closer to holiday seasons too.

  17. Either she needs to be made faster than the Bucc and Christian with current guns, or she needs her original gun lay out of the 18 lbs in place of the 6 lbs we currently have.  Though I always though the poods lay out could be added to give it something interesting.  Either way this is what I would make the guns instead.

Lower Deck 30 guns at 36 lb max (this will give more reason to use the french guns).

Upper Deck 32 guns of 24 lbs

    Quarterdeck/forcastle 24 18 lbs

Yes this would make it a 86 gun ship compared to it being a 82, but it still doesn't have chasers.  I would still make it faster but have the worse turn rate out of all the three.

    The Pavel originally had:

    Lower Gun Deck24 Russian 36-Pounder
    Lower Gun Deck6 Russian 1-Pood Edinorog (1780)
    Upper Gun Deck6 Russian 1-Pood Edinorog (1780)
    Upper Gun Deck26 Russian 24-Pounder
    Quarterdeck/Forecastle24 Russian 18-Pounder
    Roundhouse4 Russian 1/4-Pood Edinorog

    Instead of what it has:

    Lower Gun Deck6 Russian 1-Pood Edinorog (1780)
    Lower Gun Deck24 Russian 36-Pounder
    Upper Gun Deck4 Russian 1-Pood Edinorog (1780)
    Upper Gun Deck26 Russian 24-Pounder
    Quarterdeck/Forecastle24 Russian 6-Pounder

  18. Small BR isn't always good too.  US had a hard time getting Litttle River back cause it was held by a small group of PvPers that could fight as a team when US could screen over 35 players at the time and some times more but they could only get in there best 5-6 players which meant you loose one guy and the fight was pretty much over.  Some nations should be allowed to use there numbers for certain ports.  Now that port was also behind lines and a very key port, but it's no longer one that could be capture.  Important ports should not have a low BR.  Specially the ones that make a lot of money.  Reason be you can put in your best elite 10 guys and no one would be able to beat you no matter how many screeners they bring and every one gets board and stops playing.

To me honestly BR is not the issue, the issue is lack of will to fight and not being able to (for smaller nations) join up with others. That is why I'm all for the faction thing with forced alliance.  I do think some ports need BR changes or like admin mention at one time have all ports of a certain BR and than make the BR go up as Tax's goes up.  So a small clan can have a small none important port and defend it, but it takes the nation to defend a very important port.

The other option is allow us to Adjust the BR as part of the port maintenance.  You want a larger BR than  you pay more for your timer.  No timer you start out with a lower base BR.  So have the maintenance tier with the BR for the port if you want a Timer.   Also could have a BR limit for none timers.
