Treasure Fleet (World Boss NPC Fleet)

Recommended Posts

Server would spawn a "Treasure Fleet" in a random location and a random time during the day. 24 or 48 hour realtime timer.

This NPC fleet would be composed of a large number of 1st rates escorted by frigates etc. A balanced fleet would need to be created to make it impossible except for large well organized teams of players to capture this fleet.

You ask "Why would anyone attack a fleet this strong?". It sounds like madness until you see that each 1st rate's cargo hold is completely full of "gold ingots" not gold, but ingots which makes the gold even more valuable saving your crafting hours and coal for other crafting needs.

Each 1st rate would have to be boarded and captured to acquire the gold ingots in it's hold. However these ships would not be able to be captured, but only access to the precious cargo. Of course all the escorting vessels would have to be dealt with before boarding and looting of the 1st rates would be possible.

This randomly spawned treasure fleet would traverse the gameworld spawning in the west it would set an easterly course heading for the edge of the map, north to south, etc. If sailing from east to west it would target a free port to dock at along the western coasts somewhere and would have to be intercepted before reaching the target port.

Just my thoughts to spice things up a little bit.

Add to this that more than one side can enter. Let all nations enter on their own side. That way it becomes a world event that can turn into a free for all last man standing event. Figure out someway for people to get notified about it. Like NPCs who spot it can put a treasure fleet report in chat like the current reports that are being used. Then it's a race to get to it and capture it before anyone else can.

It could simply be announced globally just like a port battle.

I like the Idea, sort of like a mobile Port capture event, the notifier goes up and everyone scrambles to assemble a fleet to attack it and find it before another faction gets it. According to Wikipedia the Spanish used treasure Fleets until 1790, so not really outside the games timeframe by much if at all.

Yes, i think named spawned npc's would do the game alot of good, ie Nelson for the brits, Blackbeard for the pirates, Napoleon for the french?   anyway you get the idea, they could just be very rare spawns in the open world and hold some nice unique loot drops.. obviously they would need to be large fleets so the players would need to get together to defeat them.

Think about it please devs! =)

at the end of the day it would give people something else to do apart from port flipping now and then.

Definitely agree. I like the idea of a treasure fleet ever since i started watching black sails. It needs lots of planning and fire power and can include access to all nations, especially the thieving pirates who will have to group up with other pirates to take the fleet down. +1

I was going to start a new topic on this but did a quick search and found this.  Has there been any word on it or movement in this direction?

Edit: It would also be cool to see some exceptional drops that aren't able to be crafted, ie Marines, Powder Monkeys etc.
