Now that's an odd duck.

I wonder what benefits this hull shape would give us. Speed down wind?

It reminds me this cutter shape:

It looks very similar, obviously much shorter and smaller. Both bow and stern match.

You have listed the planned armament, but 18pdrs on UD and 8pdrs / 36pdr obusiers on QD/FC (not surprisingly) replaced this overambitious scheme.

Half-model in RMG collection:

This half-model of [HMS] Fisgard (ex. Resistance) highlights the curious underwater shape of this class, with its scow-like bow and long flat run aft. The ship also included technical innovations, like the screw-jacks that allowed the rake of the masts to be altered. Both the designer (Pierre Degay) and the private yard concerned specialised in privateers and this design shows how willing the French Navy was to consider unconventional ideas during the early years of the Revolution, a spirit of experimentation later replaced by Napoleonic standardisation.

-Winfield & Roberts, French Warships in the Age of Sail 1786-1861

Degay and the same shipyard also designed and built the Psyche, a 36-gun 12pdr frigate built as a privateer (and later captured by RN).

She's not the most attractive ship, either...

She is not a bad looking ship if you submerge that hull up to waterline. We usually don't see complete hull underwater. Right now you are looking at the hull and get that weird shape feeling and here it is without it:

Unique and beautiful imho.
