In Santisima bugged?

Recommended Posts

It is supposed to be slightly faster than Victory, however it is much slower than it at all but perfect wind. Already at beam reach, Victory is faster.

It can barely move at close reach. While Vic can still keep respectable speed for a vessel of its size

Santisima and some others SOL from Spanish Armada where refitted after War of the Pyrenees (aka: Guerre du Roussillon) trying to fit even more guns in them. Original design (1768) the Santisima Trinidad mounted 116 pieces but in the last refit (1803) that was increased to 140 cannons. Also the Spanish armada was way behind from Britain and France and only build five three-decked in whole history, so Santisima had some design flaws that never get fully resolved.

Off topic: After Trafalgar and the loss of almost all South America, Kingdom of Spain just went downhill all XIX at least. With 2 revolutions, 5 mayor military coups, 3(4) civil wars, 5 prime ministers assassinated, an all that fancy stuff between Trafalgar and first world war.

It is as it should be. The cannons actually slows you down, santi got a lot of them + she is worse in sailing than vic so everything checks out.

Weight of the guns play no role here, it is the speed/wind curve that is broken and needs to be looked into.

Santisima got bigger sails (and same type/model) than Victory and at perfect wind does go slightly faster. However the speed loss at other wind angles compared to Victory does not make sense.

Santissima should absolutely be slower than Victory.

Victory was a good sailer. Post-refit Santi was a brick.

Santisima got bigger sails

If big sails made you go fast, why wouldn't they just put bigger sails on Victory?

A higher port screen speed does not mean that a ship will be faster at all angles to the wind. A Renomee will be outrun by a Surprise in a close haul for example. In addition, the speed difference between Santisima and Victory (per Naval Action Wiki) is less than a quarter of a knot, meaning random built-in upgrade or wood type speed bonus/debuff can change which specific ship is faster. I honestly expect the Santisima to behave like a pig at anything other than perfect wind angle.

Renmoee and Surprise have different sail configurations

With all guns fitted and same mods, Santisima goes 10kn and Vic 9.5ish at perfect wind, as soon as you sail at anything but perfect, victory becomes faster. The closer you get to the wind, the bigger is the difference become.
