Deleting your character. Special considerations

Recommended Posts

Hello Matey

So your thinking or creating a new character? Maybe you have decided to change Factions or just want a fresh start. Well let me help you a little by explaining some considerations you might want to take into account before you click that delete button!

1. You will lose all of your ships, all of your fleets, all of your loot and everything you have in your warehouses.

2. You will keep your experience. (More about why this can be a problem later)

3. An actual account reset may be available but takes time, and time = less play time while you wait.

Ok so here is what happens.

When you delete you character and create a new one you lose everything except your experience.

That may be great for some but here's where it may become a problem.

If your original character is Marauder Level or above, after recreation when you get back in the game, all the missions are too high level to complete in a basic cutter.

Because you have no loot now you have to raid traders as your main source of income. this makes craft leveling slow due to lack of gold.

Also you have lost all of your fleet vessels during the recreation and are at too high a level to buy more.

An account reset may be available but expect it to take a while as the Devs are very busy and they do not do resets one by one. They accumulate a few players that need reset before doing them all.

This is in no way a crack on the Devs or the game itself. I love the game and the Devs are extremely helpful. Just pointing out considerations before clicking that delete button.

Crafting is faster if you capture ships and cargo than by earning gold on missions.

Very often you get the items you need, and if you don't you can often sell the full contents of a single trade ship for over 20k.

If your really gold sort you can earn a bit of it by not racing the capture and hammering on the hulls enough to not sink, before you cap them.

Missions are good for about one thing, getting double XP for the same fight.  If your struggling with the level/ship issue, the last thing you want is that extra XP anyway.

  1. Trade everything to a mule player in a Free Port.
  2. Delete character..
  3. Reroll character.
  4. Regain ships, money and crafting material.

The only thing they really lose out on are crafting Blueprints, but those are going to be made more accessible.

Even if there's a server wipe it's pretty easy to get up and running in a Belle Poule, Constitution or captured 3rd Rate within a day.

Maybe just make the friendly fire xp loss greater?

You can have a minimum level you can't fall below (and minimal xp loss when you friendly fire below that) like rank 3 - before Marauder rank. Would come into play as well if/when they implement the letter of marque system and rework the pirates.

As it stands, levelling up past 3 is crippling. I'm in the situation where my only income is that of capping traders in a basic cutter. Maybe a rework of the mission rewards and making all rank missions below current rank accessible.

Those trader snows take AAAAGES! Yar!

Thank you all great advice!

Is there anyway of saving your fleet ships if you want to run merchant ships for trade or are they useless in the long run?

Pick the five ships you want to keep, transfer them to a free town outpost.  Sell the rest.  Trade those five to a player you trust.  Grab them back once you have created your new character.

as of last patch - xp isn't lost on your character upon deletion. Only craft XP and items/money/ships/etc
