Remove Coordinates from player view.

Recommended Posts

The map coordinates need to be removed from player view in the bug report pop-up.

This is a HUGE oversight!!!

Whats the point of even having a compass ingame if you give every player easy access to a GPS system thats accurate down tot he meter?

There is even posts starting to pop up on Steam forums where players are asking for the co-ords of towns n such. Google docs available for anyone to download giving co-ords. Even some full on maps beign worked on.

Honestly if any Tryhard can get to the meter accurate co-ords at the push of a button Im about done with this game. One of the MAJOR draws for me (and many others Ive spoken to) is hardcoreish/sim value of the game.

Would love to here an official response to this.

Done with this game till there is some kind of response to this.

Will be leaving a negative review till this is rectified.

Have had same topic on steam forums for over a month with no official reply.

And yall had to approve this thread, so I know someone official has seen this.

I have to, based on this, assume the devs are ok with players using the coordinate system for navigation.

Well, no.

The players I know of don't use it for navigation, though they do use maps that were made before the in-game map existed.    I venture that those most in the spirit of the game and the age it represents would like an approximate location indicator, equivalent to the errors inherent in navigation at that time.   We even made one to use in place of the accurate co-ords.

I would suggest anyone who cares about the sim value of this game also boycott playing until this issue is at the LEAST addressed by the developers.

intresting, someone has an opinon here.... Well using the same tools like femen or other very politic groups that are completly random and destroying actuell everything they stand for, yes you are femen.

To an extent i can understand thaht the coordination systeme is to accurate ,BUT we dont have any navigation tools otherwise, IF we get new navtools, THEN these will replace the current bugreport usage. simple as it.

ALSO: the bugreport button is just a placeholder AND will change.

There is absolutly no reason why those coordinates should be visable to players. They can be included in the report without being seen by the player.

And after a month no official response of anykind. Gonna have to take that as a sign that Devs are ok with players using this system for navigation....

Also, the tools ingame are fit for purpose. Yes, it would be nice to have some more (period correct) tools for mapping and navigation. This does not in anyway justify the large amount of players using these co-ords for navigation.

Yall have fun with the tryhards using dev sanctioned GPS...im done

If a bug reporting tool ruin the game for you... please just go away and stay away. You will not be adding anything good to this game.

Also you have no way to know how many players actually know about the coordinates and how many use them.

You clearly dont understand what this is about.

Having an ingame bug report function is great! Im all for it.

The issue is having the coordinates visable to players......do you really not see the difference there?

I do have a way knowing roughly how many are using this...its called paying attention.

No less than 4 threads on Steam forums either asking for or sharing coordinate based data. There is also several google docs being passed around mapping coordinates.

Im guessing your one of the tryhards using this system for navigation...only logical reason for having issues with this post.

I dont use it and got no issue with it getting removed... and I expect it will be removed at some point when the bug reporting tool is updated.

What i do have an issue with is your attitude... You give a good game a bad review and call for a boycott because of a bug report system...

Really, if you don't like it, then don't use it... and accept that the game is fare from finished.

You seem to be blowing a small issue out of proportion.  Knowing your exact location isn't that much more useful then knowing your approximate location.

Read the whole thread....people are making lists and maps based off these coordinates. They can and are being used for pinpoint navigation.

Even the best of navigators of this time period could not get such pinpoint location/navigation.

It needs to be removed  as soon as possible.

Really shakes my confidence in this games community that more are not against this.....

I both completely agree that players use this tools for incredibly precise navigation and that there is no need while the coordinates (usefull for bug reporting of course) should be visible to the player reporting it. What we have now is basically an auto map tool that is only usefull for the select few. I feel a complete hyppocrite seing how rookies are told there is no way to know your location while using Shrouded's beautiful map every day.

I lke however both the community created maps as well as the need to read coordinates and then find your location on the map, calculating your course to the known coordinates of a town. As such the solution would be simple: let the coordinates stay, remove them out of the bug report tool so that they are easy to get for even a new player, but make them less (a lot less) precise and, for example, obtainable only at noon.

I think many players use the custom maps and the coords because there is no better alternative. And by better I don't mean a more accurate and easier to use GPS. Quite the contrary!

I used to sail a cruiser and one of the most enjoyable and exciting activity was navigation (without electronics).  I'm speaking of taking bearings of land features and using simple calculations and map plotting to do dead reckoning. I'd love to see a fun AND challenging implementation of this activity in game. Yes, the current guesstimation system is also challenging but there is a lot of potential fun value to be had by adding a navigation mini-game of sorts.
