  1. I came over from RoF, and we have had some ugly/outrageous looking skins over the years... This is not the worst one but it's the one everyone references when they talk about terrible skins. http://jasta99.de/depot/RoF_Skinpack/FDr1/FDr1_Piggy_02.png And this... http://i890.photobucket.com/albums/ac102/zapping_zapping/2013_7_2__21_40_29.png I'd hate to see that kind of stuff sailing around in here.
  2. I think it's a cool idea, not sure how much I like the idea of painting sails though... Maybe have the option to pick symbols for the sails instead? Or have a really basic color scheme for them (white, black, grey, cream, etc...)
  3. I know I was just messing with you, there's a difference but I assume everyone knows what is implied. and the Admin already said that swivel guns will be in the game (check previous page).
  4. Most ships don't sterncamp from 200+ yards away, especially small ones. I do agree with you that the crew damage should be looked at again, Ive spent time recently playing with grape and even on light ships like the brig & yacht which really have no protection for their crew, the damage is minimal. We'll see what happens when DM 4.0 comes out though.
  5. Honestly if the animations can be added in later along the lines, I would be fine with this. It wouldn't look quite as pretty but I think it would enhance gameplay.
  6. I'm not sure how well having it automated would go.
  7. Small ships seem to easily have their way with larger vessels (I know that I'm guilty of doing this too), so I suggest we have the option to fire muskets & swivel guns at vessels to kill crew. Maybe throw it in similar to how the cannons are set up with reloading times and wherever you're aiming you can have the musketeers fire or something along those lines.
  8. I don't see a problem with adding US 1st rates. They may not have seen combat but, the way I see it, Naval Action is simulating a time period not a specific battle or war. If the ship existed inside that timeframe I think it's fair game for us to be able to sail it. Besides... they look pretty dang cool (yes I know that picture isn't in the timeframe)
  9. I did read a good chunk of the thread and get what you guys are saying, but I don't think choosing from a list of words is going to be sufficient. What if someone wants to use, say, their name for their ship? Or make up a word? Ban the use of numbers in names, that gets rid of half the idiotic names right there, then ban words like leet, noob, poop, haxor, whatever, etc... (I think a ship named the USS Obama Care would be hilarious.)
  10. Honestly, I didn't read through all 8 pages of this... Has anyone suggested just banning certain words? I know there are games out there that do it to your name, and as a server admin you can type in a list of words you want banned from chat. Why not the same principle be used to moderate ship names? The developers can create a list of rude or moronic words that we don't want to see on ships, if a player sees a "loophole word" or a word they missed they can report that word & get it banned as well. Seems like a simple enough answer to fix a great idea.
  11. I'm not an expert, but I've been thinking about this as well, and it does seem the cannons are extremely accurate for what they are. I doubt these cannonballs are very precisely made and the shots would probably behave more like a musket than a modern howitzer. On top of that you have a crew of men (not one man) aiming each and every gun... how are they able to all fire on the exact same point every time?
  12. Are you sure that's how they are testing this? I was under the assumption that the points were solely for preventing everyone from grabbing a first rate and pounding each other instead of testing all the ships (although I played a couple battles like that & they were pretty fun).
  13. Why does it really matter? I don't think this is how the final game is going to work so it seems pointless to "fix" the gameplay just for testing purposes.
  14. For those of you who have been around boats, you may have noticed the light reflecting off the water on a sunny day creating a pattern on the lower areas of the hull, I was wondering if this can be modeled into the game or if it already has been (I heard some effects were removed from alpha). It would add a nice touch to the games visual element
  15. Well that's why I said "next game" and not Naval Action, that being said I don't know if there will be a next game so it's just a fun thread to comment on Then again this is Naval Action: Age of Sail, so maybe there will be a "Dawn of Steam" one
  16. Steam power was hardly new in the Great War... I think ironclads would be (in my opinion, no offense to anybody) more fun than sailing ships, I would love to see their next game include them (or maybe a sequel to Naval Action).
